An Inaugural 2021 MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s another grey and dreary day outside, the weather app says “You might be chilly today. There is still time to crochet yourself some fucking legwarmers”, and promises me 11C/52F today as both a low and a high. I’ve already been outside this morning to get the biiiiiig bin back off the pavement after the binmen came past earlier.

I had some sad news today, a friend in my band family group lost his dad yesterday. Dad had been in hospital for the last eight weeks after a heart bypass op and passed away last night. We’ve had a lot of deaths in that group over the last 12 months, we’re running out of parents

Nothing exciting on the horizon today, yesterday did not being stampeding hordes of drunk elephants which was a disappointment. We did, however, download a bunch of videos for cats from t’interwebz, and have been playing them on the big telly with surround sound to keep the cats entertained. They’re basically videos from outdoor cameras centred on bird feeders and ground-feeding areas so there’s plenty of different birds, squirrels and rodents for the cats to watch. Shadow is fascinated by it, and Ophelia keeps trying to get behind the telly to see where all the tweety-birds go.

Meetings from 11am-1pm today, I’d better scoot and get a fresh cuppa before the first one starts!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ''Tis 31 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 66 and N.O.S. for the day. Today’s agenda includes laundry, plus it’s the big cleanout my innards day. I shall have lime Jell-O and chikin broth to break fast. Maybe I’ll chase it down with some white grape juice. I must also drink six to eight, eight ounce glasses of water throughout the day. Fun!

{{{BooFae}}} sorry about your friend’s dad. Very few of my peers have parents anymore.

Now I need more caffeine (I can drink coffee black!) and to thoroughly disgust feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

I also have an LCP. It is handy enough to just slip into a pocket when concealing my 1911 is difficult due to lighter clothing. I agree with Massad Ayoob, who says that the ultimate answer to the caliber argument is shot placement.

Morning (just about) all!

It’s pretty gloomy and a little damp here- this is supposed to be the drier side of the country at least, so it should rain less than where I used to live. The takeaway options also appear substantially better.

I’m mostly going to be sat in twiddling my thumbs today- the plan for the new job was s’posed to be going in Monday, picking up a laptop and phone, getting them all set up on the system so I could start going through the online training from home. Unfortunately, the laptop didn’t arrive until just before closing time yesterday, and today although I could pick it up, no-one’s free to get it set up on the system (most people are working from home or doing site visits), so there’s basically nothing I can do.
I’m hanging round online waiting for an email or call saying what to do next. C’moooon.

The main plan for today is laundry, tho FCD may want some help in his office - I’ll see when he gets up. We have overlapping wake/sleep cycles - I usually crash a couple of hours before he does, then I get up a couple of hours ahead of him. At least that’s been the routine since retirement. Back in our working days, we were more in sync.

swampy, I don’t envy your liquid-y day. But at least it’s very short-term, and it certainly beats the possible alternative, so there’s that. My turn comes up in a couple more years - and I know the doc I saw the last 2 times is no longer practicing in town, so no clue who/where my next appt will be.

I think one other task will be finding some cheap beer that can be bought by the can so I can make a couple of batches of pizza dough. I got some workable suggestions from my other thread - I love that aspect of the Dope!

And so it goes! Happy Tuesday!!

Well, hello there Mumpers. I thought I would pop in to see how you are all doing. I have no big plans other than having to work (blech) today. It’s a crispy 32 degrees outside and it’s still dark. They are talking about the possibility of lowland snow next week; I’ll believe it when I see it.

I am doing my best to avoid the news because I am just sick and tired of that nasty man and all the coverage surrounding him. Actually, the word is “exhausted”. Tomorrow can’t come soon enough.

I had a long weekend, but not long enough. Retirement looks better every day, but I want to plump up my TSP some more.

Well, I need to head upstairs to my work computer office and log in. The day promises to be crazy and full of ridiculous things that need to be done NOW. I need a real vacation but probably won’t take one until August. That’s a long way off.

I don’t have the 'rona! Well…at least I didn’t on Sunday. Those rapid tests are apparently like pregnancy tests. If you have it, it’s really easy to detect, but if it hasn’t had an opportunity to “bake,” a false negative is a likelihood.

Getting tested got me to thinking, though - it sucks how stigmatized the 'rona is now. As I was sitting in the designated spot, I felt like a pariah, even moreso when I was ushered in behind the building to a set-aside inventory room in the back of the pharmacy while receiving the side eye from patrons. I wonder how much infection goes underreported. Probably a lot. In fact, I found out that nine more people I knew had already had the virus months ago but were nervous about telling anyone because everyone assumes you refused to wear a mask somewhere and that’s how you got it. I’m just as guilty of that mentality.

Anyway, that’s the extent of my navel-gazing today. I’m drinking my coffee and munching on an egg and toast and pondering the stacks and stacks of stuff I need to be reading. Hope everyone has a fantabulous day, or a better day than they were expecting.

Morning all. Today is shingles shot #2, will be getting dressed and over to Walgreen’s here in a bit. Had a very small reaction to shot #1 so not expecting any issues.

talky, glad you don’t have the 'rona. probably should be getting tested again (was tested back in August), but like many I have no symptoms so… My country is over 27,000 recorded cases, a lot of them in the past several months. Guess I’ll see about a test.

Taters!!! Glad to see ya, hope you’re doing well. I think many folks (on both sides of the political spectrum) will breathe a sigh of relief tomorrow…in the hopes that normalcy (whatever that is) can be restored.

Nut, hopefully they’ll get you started sometime tomorrow.

swampy, enjoy (HA!) the cleansing.

boo fae, love the cats watching TV for the birds. And yeah, we’re some old geezers here, lots of us don’t have are parents anymore or are worried about them.

OK, off to make myself presentable and get a hole in my arm. Take care all.

Hiya, Mumpers. Now I feel bad that I was about to post a joke about how my mother will outlive us all, because heaven won’t take her & the devil doesn’t wanna host her just yet …

I did call her this morning. She’s knitted me more stuff (I have hats and scarves, and now neck warmers, galore) and at my request she tucked in a few more knitted cat toys.

Monkey is now busy trying to play with ALL THE TOYS AT ONCE and Nikki is enjoying sitting in a new shoebox, so they’re both happy.

Mom is a knitter. Bored & stuck at home (and apparently with a stash of odds and ends of various yarn colors she wants to use up) and with a new recipient to knit for, she’s knitting all. the. things.

The big Fun Thing To Look Forward To today is a tour at work of the new grow facility they’ve been constructing in our building. It’ll be my one chance to see it before they go all sterilized and I’m frankly curious.

Otherwise, I gotta catch up on laundry. A load of sheets is in the wash already, and since that’s too big to hang over my drying rack, it’s off to the House O’Suds in a bit with some quarters.

It’s chilly today, in the upper 20s whereas it’s been mid 30s lately - enough to keep things dripping, but not anymore!
Supposed to get more of the fluffy stuff tonight, so I must drive verrrrrry carefully on my way home after the tour.

Oooh, there’s the chime on the washing machine. It plays a little melody, instead of buzzing harshly, which I find quite civilized.

Have yourselves a lovely day! (Or: as good as possible. How’s that, more realistic?)

{{{Taters}}}!!! Why were you avoiding us? Was it something I said! :open_mouth:

Please hang around more often!

We talked about getting plague-tested after coming back from FL, but in our county, they prefer you have a real concern and reason to be tested. Since we had minimal interactions with anyone who might be infected, we really didn’t qualify, nor did we really want to be tested, so we weren’t and all has been fine. I’d rather the effort go into those who really could have been exposed rather than our “maybe-might-could have” case. And they’re not taking vaccination reservations for anyone in my group (the over-65 crowd) so nothing new on the plague front here.

FCD got a haircut today, after much hand-wringing on his part. But it was just him and the 2 barbers in the place, and I told him to sanitize all over after getting done. And masks, of course. So he’s looking more kempt, and I still look like a shaggy mutt.

Laundry is just about done - last load in the dryer. Other than that, I’ve mainly been finishing a lap robe, and trying to decide what to knit or crochet next. I’ve got a pile of different variegated skeins that I want to use up - maybe individual squares that I’ll stitch together? Or weird alternating stripes? I’ll figure it out.

Meanwhile, lunch of leftovers has been ingested, so back to the crochet position!

The Someone Very Dear to Me died. I am trying to stay very still and quiet within myself. I make a list of things to do each day and do them. I try not to think.

I stopped in to wish Swampy well on his colonoscopy prep today and the test, itself tomorrow. I hope the time goes by fast and that you get good news.

{{{{nelie}}}}

Worked smalls today, so no anvils or kettlebells. I did have so many empty bags on my foot I was starting to lose feeling in it.

:stuck_out_tongue:

wordy, glad we don’t have to shun you. Unless you’re a Vikings fan.

Taters!

I’m enjoying hearing about your new life adventure, anticipating the next chapter with pleasure. Hope it goes smoothly. Be a little mysterious in dealing with your employers, it will keep them wondering and make it ever so much more fun.

@nelliebly My spirit is sitting quietly with you.

{{{{nellie}}}}. Sit as quietly as you wish. We will still be here for you.

FCM, thanks for the reminder that I need to get barbered, there is a place I normally go, will check if they are on an appointment basis or not.

I have been de-shingled (no pain afterword, which is nice) and now will wait patiently for Ali-bama to get it’s act together on the COVID. Lunch has been consumed and is happily digesting, so all is right with the world.

Have a good afternoon now.

Morning Mumpers!

Good to see you here Taters. I do stalk follow you on facebook too, but I’m trying to wean myself off of there.

{{{Nellie}}}, {{{Boofae}}}

It’s 28f on our front porch at the moment, but alarmingly bright.

Wifey has taken herself off to the valley to pick up our mail. Something about paying bills, whatever those are. She expects to be back by dinnertime though, so I’ll not be without adult supervision for long.

The geniuses in our state gummint have reversed course on the vaccinations again. The vaccines that they thought they were getting from the feds turned out not to exist as yet, so there’re back to vaccinating teachers and school personnel next and then old folks starting the end of February. They’re saying Feb 22nd or later for folks over 70.
The local news folks interviewed an 80-something lady the other night who said (paraphrasing) “That’s all well and good for the teachers, but they’re just getting sick. We’re the ones dying from the virus.” That resonated with me. If either of us got the virus, with our pre-existing conditions, it would prolly kill us. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I won’t be voting for that guvner again, or any more school bond issues either.

And you kids get offen mah lawn!

OOps, missed this one on the way through:

But I want it in 10mm.

I’m so sorry, nellie.

Got some onion rings from a local greasy-fried-stuff place (the Chicken Coop) and, having eaten enough to thoroughly moisturize my lips and fingertips, I still have enough left over to re-heat in the oven for another decadent snack shortly.

Laundry - including that bunch of $%&@ masks I forgot earlier - is done.
Well, done-ish, there’s loads (ha! I made a British joke) to be put away.

This was very poignant, and very beautifully written.
You - in your strength here - are an inspiration to me.

Finally finished off a 2.5 pound meatloaf last night. I think we need some meatless days after that. Washer is still out of action; it will be another week before a repair person can visit. Then he’ll have to order parts, then schedule another visit. I think we’re looking at a month without being able to do laundry.

Howdy Y’all! I have just started sippin’ on the clean out stuff. It. Is. Nasty. I’m not real fond of Gatorade as it is, but mixed with a buttload (HAH!) of Miralax makes it that much more ick. I must sip half of the stuff over the next three hours. I shall persevere. Thus it goes here at da cave. Oh, got a call about my covid vaccine on Firday. They changed the location, which is actually great for me, cause the new location is a couple of miles closer. So, some good news for the day.

{{{Nettie}}}

Taters YAY! Come back and play some more. Like Bumba I do stalk follow you on the book of faces. Also, you say howdy on my mornin’ book of faces post and that makes me happy.
