An Inaugural 2021 MMP

{{{nellie}}} - there aren’t enough hugs…

FCD turned in his last report. For the first time in ages, he has no work, and he said it feels weird. Supposedly, there’s another project out there that he’s committed to do, but we don’t know when it will be funded.

I decided to try to make a loaf of craisin bread. It was very much yummerrific! When I make it again, I’ll use brown sugar instead of white sugar. I expect that will also be yum. Plus I’m just going to use the machine for the dough cycle, then finish it in the oven so I get a better shaped loaf.

Most of my afternoon has been spent knitting and watching A Place to Call Home on AcornTV. It’s a bit soap-opera-esque, but I’m enjoying it.

Chillage shall continue, because it can, tho I should probably walk a little later, too. Supper was salads and craisin bread, so once it digests a bit, I’ll tread the mill.

dicey, I’m surprised that pie isn’t more common in Switzerland. I grew up in Amish (heavy Swiss heritage) country and they’re well known for their amazing pies.

I’m sorry about your friend’s dad boofae

Moooooom, try a convenience market that caters to construction worker types. You may have to go with a tall boy, but you can buy single cans.

Hi taters!

{{{nellie}}} I’m so sorry.

Irked and got home just as the Prime driver pulled in. The big stuff that was supposed to be delivered today didn’t get here, but Nelson’s new hedge hog did. He’s been ecstatic. Supper is et and I’m fixing to do KP and chill in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Poopalooza continues. It’s not near as much fun as it sounds. :poop:

:toilet::roll_of_toilet_paper::toilet::roll_of_toilet_paper::toilet::roll_of_toilet_paper::toilet::roll_of_toilet_paper::toilet::roll_of_toilet_paper::toilet::roll_of_toilet_paper::toilet::roll_of_toilet_paper:

swampy – video is neither required nor desired.

One without a large dough-hook-shaped hole in it, you mean?

Dicey, add me to the list of those who are amazed that the otherwise rational Swiss don’t eat pie.

Lady SCAdian drove the housemate* over to the other end of the state to visit family; Domino’s has been ordered, and they’ll pick it up on the way home. Foooood…

35 (wind chill 30) and fair, with a low tonight of 29. Weather-dot-gov says 38 tomorrow, with a 50% chance of snow showers, and 19 tomorrow night.

* If a roommate is a roomie, is a housemate a housie?

No Canes hockey tonight. COVID. Everybody needs to wear a mask, wash your damn hands, and vaccinate, so i can spend the GDP of Albania on a small stadium beer.

I would have guessed you were flush with excitement.

Party pooper! :stuck_out_tongue:

Da Jungle delivered the rest of the order slated for today ~7 PM. My barking door alert made sure that I was aware. The desk chair that I bought a couple of months back was designed for someone over six foot and the nice lumbar support in it did me no good, as I couldn’t sit completely back and still reach my desk / work table. So I ordered a detatatchable lumbar pillow. It’s working well. I also ordered a wedge for reading in bed, since the old one bit the dust some time ago. My back should be a bit happier.

I’m sure he making ac-commode-ations…

Arm is how hurting when I move it, so did have a reaction to the shot. Not serious though. Dinner has now been eaten and not much else is planned for the evening.

FCM, had to look up craisin bread…think I’ll stick with the plain old raisin variety… And FCD will adjust…hope you don’t have too, my dad going grocery shopping with my mom nearly led to homicide…

swampy, glad Georgia sounds reasonably organized regarding the vaccine; Ali-bama is still in Mode FUBAR.

Cookie, hope you have a laundromat in easy reach. That or a lot of clothes…

Ok, need to rest up for tomorrow. All y’all take care.

Let my know when you get it figured out. I have a lovely person who came into my life because she suddenly needed shelter from the storm (domestic partner abuse). Supposedly only for a few days. A year and a half later, much to my delight and benefit, she’s still here but I’m never sure how to refer to her. We don’t share a room, we have our own bedrooms, unlike college roomies. We share my house but housie doesn’t have the right sound and housemate seems too arm’s length. I dunno, when y’all get it figured out let me know.

Née-braska could give Ali-bama a SNAFU run for it’s money. Even the Public Health Dept in the capital city doesn’t know when or how who is going to get vaccinated. I worked the H1N1 vax push, we know how to do it, but then vaccines weren’t a politicized train wreck. As long as I don’t die first…

How is my digestive tract somehow in step with yours on the other side of a continent? I’m spending entirely too much time in the “library” this evening.

Somehow when Swiss people emigrated to America, they picked up a sweet tooth. They didn’t get it here. Visit France or Austria, specificaly Vienna, to get good pastries.

The swiss meringue is not as well known in the U.S. as the French or Italian meringues.

The most well-known pastry is Bündner Nusstorte, which wasn’t even invented until the 1920s.

The closest Switzerland has is the wähe, but this is closer to a quiche (savory) or tart (sweet).

And I was so distracted thinking about pie, I forgot to turn on the espresso machine. Did everything else, such as getting my breakfast ready, put hubby’s muffin on top of the machine to get warm, etc.

Oops.

Probably should stop thinking about pie, I won’t get any work done today.

I have my own 'scoping scheduled for March 8th, so I’m following swampy’s story rather closely. Back in October when I made my appointment (they had a backlog due to last spring’s lockdown), they sent me a goody bag which has all the prep I need, including the magic pill. I didn’t need the pill last time, but I think my husband could have used two. :frowning:

{{{nellie}}} Sorry.

And two days in a row I have a meeting at 8:00 in the morning. What’s up with that?

And it’s TODAY. TODAY. The beginning of sanity!

Woo hoo!

Happy Inauguration Day!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort. 9 hours. #TickTock

dagnabbit, Dicey, now I want pastry. :croissant:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Well, it’s mornin’ anyways. Up and well, drinkin’ the next round of poopade. That’s what I’ve named this vile concoction. ICK! 'Tis 45 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy, with a predicted high of 66 and mostly cloudy for the day. Everyone already knows the big plan for the day. I shall say no more about that.

The puns and Miss_Owl’s tp emoticons made me laugh. A laugh is a thing I needed this mornin’. Tummy is makin’ all sorts of odd sounds. It wants food but all it gets is poopade. It is not happy.

OK, I shall entertain myself with teh intartoobz whilst I continue to do whatever this is I’m doin’. I have made the executive decision that I shall attire myself in sweatpants and sweatshirt to go do this. I see no need for proper bein’ about the public attire. Today, they get what they get.

I may or may not post later in the day. We shall see how all this goes. I expect to be all groggy and probably grouchy as well. Pity OYKW today.

Happy Hump Day, such as it is, Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! Happy Inauguration Day to you lot over there…lucky you, getting a proper adult in charge again, I wish we had one of those!

It’s grey and dismal here, been pretty windy overnight as I believe we have a new storm (Christoph) coming our way. Weather app says “It’s wetter than a truckstop toilet after being used by a bus load of hover pissers” and promises me 10C/50F and a day of mostly cloudy with drizzle. I can’t help but feel this is some kind of response to Swampy’s current condition. Anyway, best of luck with the procedure, I’m sure sweats are a perfectly acceptable form of attire under the circumstances.

[[[nellie]]], if you don’t mind, I’ll just come and sit here in silence and stillness under your window, just so you know there’s someone out there.

Taters! Glad you stopped by, if only to satisfy the curiosity of your farcebook stalkers followers. Good to see you around, did you bring pie? Die has us all craving pie now…

Yesterday was a busy irk day full of meetings, and then followed by grocery shopping which was largely successful so the fridge is stuffed again. Bizarrely, the one thing on my list I was unable to find was packets of hot chilli mix. I have some normal chilli mix so I’ll use that and add some chilli flakes to it instead. I also have a recipe for brownies that requires sweet potato, so I needed to acquire one of those.

Brownies will most likely be made at the end of the week. Since I’ve now racked up nearly 76 hours spare, I’m taking Friday off to use some of them up. I need to go to the bank and do something that can’t be done online but they’ve got new opening hours due to covid which means no Saturday opening, and hours are now 10am-2pm so to the bank on a weekday I must go.

Not today though, got a team meeting to prepare for since my boss has called in sick so I’m running the show today. I’d be a good boss and send everyone home, but they’re already there!

Good morning America…

A big day for you lot I imagine, whichever side of the divide you are on. Just, please, refrain from shooting each other.

A grey damp day here as we get the fringe of Storm Cristophe. I think this fad of naming storms just encourages them - this is the third this year. I went to the pharmacy to collect DW’s meds and had to detour due to the road being inundated. Fortunately, our house is not in danger. others are not so lucky and will have spent yesterday carrying their furniture upstairs.

The rain has not deterred the birds though and there are a couple of goldfinches squabbling over the seed - I put nuts out for them but they mostly ignore them.

Morning all.

{{Nellie}} I’m sorry.

It’s looking like another day of sitting in thumb-twiddling; I got the laptop yesterday, got all the setup codes to get on to the system, got it all working and… today I can log in, but it’s saying the wifi’s not connected to the internet. Given that I’m currently -on my laptop- on the wifi, messing around on the internet, the wifi is pretty obviously working, so the issue appears to be on their end.

There’s an IT helpline, I’ve called already, but all the things they suggested didn’t do anything, so I’m waiting for them to call back with new and exciting suggestions. I think the plan was to go in tomorrow to get proper training on how to use the system, so I hope they can get it working in time, or I’m going to be entering thumb twiddling contests pretty soon.

edit: Huh, don’t know why I put this as a reply to Boofae, I think I’m just frustrated with computers today and pressing random buttons. That weather app is unusually charming today though.

When my youngest sis still owned her house, she had a friend named Jim living with her. His main space was the basement. She referred to him as her Basement Jim (gym - get it? It’s a joke!)

Interestingly enough, both my sis and Jim moved back in with their respective mothers. His has dementia and he’s the only unmarried among his sibs. My mom is mostly OK, but she is 87, so my sister is there to call 911 if necessary.

HAPPY INAUGURATION DAY!!! At long last!! My big plans for today include laundering some bedding and emptying the dishwasher. Other things will happen, too, no doubt.

MetalMouse - I know FCD will find things to do. He’s already started some of the design work on our remote controlled mower, and he’s been organizing his shop and office for personal use rather than a business configuration. As for the grocery store, he hates going there, so no worries about that.

swampy - surely you’ll be more or less your old self by the time you get home! Unless your doc uses some sort of anesthesia that’s way stronger than the twilight sleep stuff my doc used. Still, I’m sure it’ll all come out just fine! :open_mouth:

Enough sillies. Happy Wednesday!!

Well, here I am again. No one did anything; I had just started spending time at another board and life got busy. Some of you are on that board, and yes, I see many of you on the Book of Faces. I don’t really post much of anything; mainly I lurk.

I cannot wait for noon today. I probably won’t get to watch, as I am dealing with several large issues at work that need immediate attention with a firehose. Too many to list, but let’s just say I should invest in fireman gear. None of these issues were caused by me, but I get to deal with the clean-up because my branch are the “fix it” people.

Other than that, life continues. I have two grandbabies now; one is almost 2 and a half and the other arrived at the end of last September. They are a joy. Zoe is definitely living the life of a two-year-old and does what two-year-olds do (wants/doesn’t want help), yells “Nooooooooo!” a lot, and of course, wants Adam’s (the baby’s) toys. She really is a delight and loves to see Gamma//Goma and GoPaw and play with Polar. Unca Bryan is her favorite person in the whole world and no one else exists when he’s around, lol! Adam is the happiest, sunniest baby. He is also a very big boy! He weighs about nine pounds less than his big sister.

I started working for USDA Rural Development almost two years ago. I love the people I work with and the atmosphere there is so much nicer than the place I left. My old workplace literally made me sick every day. From what I hear, things have only gotten worse there, so I am glad to have made my escape.

Swampy, I hope all goes well today. I am well overdue for one of those procedures, along with a couple of others, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I am not a fan of going to the doctor for anything and pretty much have to be dying to go. Good on you for keeping up with the health maintenance!

I’m all cleanded up, dressed, and ready to go. The fun starts soon. Rah.

Good luck, swampy! Hopefully the poopade stays a thing of the past (or at least a thing of the not so frequent).

Today’s inauguration festivities have me simultaneously relieved and terrified. I don’t even know where to begin.

Workwise, I also loathe 8 a.m. meetings. And also those people who work ridiculous hours. It sets a terrible precedent. I was glancing at my calendar this morning around 6:30 to see if I had time to waddle (I didn’t because I chose to lounge instead), only to be assaulted by some crazy person instant messaging me asking me to look at a presentation. I wanted to say, “Congrats on your badge of honor, lady,” but instead I said, “Sure, but you’ll have to give me about an hour and a half.”

I could have looked at it at 6:30, but could and should are two entirely separate things. So are could and want to. Or could and give a crap. Or could and a buttload of other things. Anyway, that’s how I envision my day going today: lots of reading, tons of debate, making roadmaps of things and generally telling other people to simmer the heck down. Oh, and biting my nails while hitting “refresh” one times too many on the news.
