An Inaugural 2021 MMP

Good morning, Mumpers. Today’s excitement 'round these parts might include such shenanigans as putting away the clean laundry, and continuing to fix this %@# tub the %@# rats chewed up. I’m in a peachy mood, can ya tell?

Buncha trash needs to go out, too. Presumably the litter box needs scoopin’ and that can be looped into the “garbage → out” task.

Is this just general anxiety, or is there something specific you’re worried about?

Mostly general anxiety and the feeling that half the U.S. has lost their minds. I recognize this as somewhat of a blind spot for me - being in my own skin it’s hard for me to empathize with the people that seem to be rabidly pro-Trump. And we’re all a little afraid of and frustrated by what we don’t understand. Especially given that that lack of understanding (not my own by myself - I’m not that important) has caused violence such as that which we experienced a couple of weeks ago.

I’m hopeful that this is the start of something better, but I worry that we may have already gone past a critical turning point without realizing it and that the country will need to burn before rebuilding, if that makes sense.

Turns out the convenience stores here don’t sell beer by the can. So I’ll wait till the liquor stores are open and just get a cheap six-pack. I know beer has a shelf life, but I figure it’ll last long enough for me to use it all - especially if I look for recipes that use beer.

I made a run to Food Lion for a few things and I threw the comforter in the washer - it barely fit! I also unpacked the shirts I got from Land’s End yesterday - 5 polo shirts and a t-shirt - all for around $75. I think that’s a pretty good deal from LE. And I love polo shirts. So it’s time to do a closet purge of the shirts that are too big on me. Can’t believe I’m wearing a size with no X in it!

FCD went to get his car washed, but the place was broken down so now he’s off to look at refurbished lawn mowers for his RC mower project. I shall empty the dishwasher shortly, then assume the knit position and watch something on TV. I was about to say “on the tube” but it’s not a tube any longer. So what expression should replace it? Hmmmmmm…

Morning all. About 1 hour to go until the Change in office is official. May watch railroad videos instead (not that I’m not excited, but it is normal of me not to watch and hopefully normal is now in style). Heading for 52F today with rain due tonight and tomorrow. Major task will be getting the garbage and recyclables outside tonight.

FCM, not sure I could get my comforter in the washing machine…large it is. Usually take it to the dry cleaners, it’s expensive but worth it.

swampy, see you later today…after the Doctors have seen you now…

Taters, sounds like fun times with the little ones. Enjoy. And I know about having a job you are happy with versus one that makes you sick. Take care.

Nut, one of these days you might start working for a living again…

2bob, stay safe and (more or less) dry. And we have lots of reasons to shoot each other besides politics (none of them are good or sane reasons, but the casualty lists indicates somebody (tragically) thinks so…).

OK, all y’all take care now.

Dicey, that wähe looks really good – both versions of it. May have to try making one someday. My favourite savoury pies are pies of Paris: To mak pyes of pairis tak and smyt fair buttes of pork and buttes of vele and put it to gedure in a pot with freshe brothe and put ther to a quantite of wyne and boile it tille it be enoughe then put it in to a treene vesselle and put ther to raw yolks of eggs pouder of guinger sugur salt and mynced dates and raissins of corans and mak a good thyn paiste and mak coffyns and put it ther in and bak it welle and serue it. Peach and cherry are my favourite fruit pies.

Taters, I envy you your grandchildren.

Your package stores don’t sell single beers, Mooom? How very strange…

36o (wind chill 27) and cloudy here, and the chance for snow flurries this afternoon has dropped to 20%. Trying to think if there’s any reason to get dressed and go out. Fed (leftover pizza) and caffienated, and should probably go take my morning meds – it’s almost 12:30 here, and I’ve been up since a little after 9.

We have a President!
Sorted, and about to start laundry.

I remember your posts. Glad things are better.

Good luck, swampy!

Howdy Y’all. Made it through an now am back in da cave in jammy pants and tshir. I’ve had some Diet Coke and a 'nanner. Definitely gonna want more sustenance but for now 'twill do. I am somewhat groggy so I think some quality time with my bed is in order. They don’t let you leave until you fart. I was most happy to oblige.

Honestly, I don’t know whether they do or not. I don’t drink the stuff, nor do I drink much of anything, so I’m not familiar with the inventory. I’ll check it out later today.

Much laziness has ensued. I watched a little bit of the President’s speech, but I’ll wait for the highlights on the evening news. Enough to know that the Orange Menace is gone.

Howdy from Fort DC! Enjoying an overlook of the White House alongside dozens of other broadcasters.

It’s windy, it’s chilly, it’s nice.

Woohoo, Tugig! Front row seats!!! sorta

It’s pretty good. I haven’t figured how to post a photo in this app. 12 stories up overlooking Lafayette Park and the White House.

I’m working through midnight. I was supposed to be here at 10am but I woke up around 3:30am and decided I was worried about parking so I drove in a bit after 4, got great parking and then slept in my car for a few hours.

From what we’re seeing on our intel there was a minor clash, quickly squelched, over near Union Station. Otherwise it’s pretty quiet in town.

Other folks are saying it’s pretty easy to drive around town because everyone stayed home.

My reporter was excited to see Biden’s moving vans pull up to the White House at 12:01. Apparently that’s a thing.

Happy Day. Y’all!

One of our friends said we should all buy oranges so we could throw them out our front doors today. She just sent us a video of an orange flying out into her yard.

Swampy, didn’t they pump you full of air for your ‘procedure’? They did for me. I never had any problem farting afterwards.

Wifey has the inauguration speechifying on the TV. I’ve never watched one before. Seems like a lot of people who are inordinately fond of their own voices. I was surprised to hear Mitch make a joke. :open_mouth:

Later, fellow Mumpers.

Politicians.

Woo-hoo! We finally don’t have to listen to Chump anymore!

Thanks once again to all of you for all the sympathy and support. You’re such kindly people.

I’m glad the procedure went well, Swampy, and hope you’ve been eating up a storm.

Thank you. It isn’t strength so much as a sort of instinctive emotional survival. All my inclinations–screaming, crying nonstop, curling up in a ball–are insufficient and only make things worse. It’s kind of like lamaze, I guess.

However, life is not about me. I have other people who need me to be there for them, so I’m trying to make the effort.

I’m very relieved to have an intelligent adult in the White House again.

Meanwhile, in Mar-A-Lago - “There goes the neighborhood.”

We made a run down to a liquor store in Leonardtown and I was able to get a 16 oz can of Bud, so tomorrow, I’ll be making pizza dough. We also got a bottle of Moscato - FCD is rather fond of it.

Now, time for chillage.

So is my roomie but then you probably actually sleep with yours.

There are beef stew recipes out there that call for beer as the braising liquid, instead of wine or broth.
And of course, there is Beer Can Chicken, and if you don’t already know what I’m talking about, then I dunno if we can still be friends.

There was an absolutely phenomenal sunset hereabouts tonight. I’m not the superstitious type, and certainly not a religious person .. but it sure looked like a rainbow colored beacon of hope to me.

When we have an election and the current Prime Minister’s party loses, they are gone the same day. “The King is dead, long live the King”.
