April Showers bring a soggy MMP

Morning all.

Forecast is for today to be the last N.O.S day for a bit, which I am not complaining about; I don’t mind so much being stuck in if it’s grotty outside. I’m getting a batch of laundry on the line while it’s still nice though.

Today I’m mainly trying to teach myself to use stats software that is better than the stuff they taught us to use, waaay more complicated, but free to download, so more potentially useful. It’s basically a programming language and I am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination, so my brain now hurts but I do have the first graph I needed now, which I couldn’t do on the Uni software. I’m having a celebratory cup of tea and a biscuit.

They are predicting a “wintery mix” for today with possibly an inch of snow. Sunday night they predicted 1-3 inches. Weathermen in Jammies do not have to be accurate it seems. Must be nice…

Up stupid early due to an allergy attack. Stupid sneezing. I took not one but two Benedryl so I may be snoozing again soonish.

I checked the website and I will be getting my full paycheck thank goodness. I figured I would but really needed to see it for myself. So, that is a load off. Not that I am spending any money these days.

What shall I do today? I know a nap will happen and maybe some movie watching and internet reading. I will cook something. Life of leisure. I could get used to this. On the other hand I sort of miss irk. I miss my girls.

Happy Thursday everyone.

**nellie **- Roxy did like her cake. She especially liked blowing out the candle!

Daughter went overboard with gifts - there was a pack of My Little Pony figures, a coloring book and a big fat box of crayons, a barrel of sea critters, a book about sea critters that made critter sounds, a set of blocks from Word Party, and four stuffed Word Party characters. Her favorite is Lulu.

It was really funny at bedtime - Roxy had all 4 of the stuffies in bed with her. Daughter had to go out to the office to do something and she asked us to listen for the baby. About 10 minutes after she went out, Roxy came toddling into the living room carrying all of the characters. **FCD **was ready to let her come sit with us - he’s so indulgent!

So that left me to be the heavy - I herded her back to bed, piled the toys in a corner of the bed, except for Lulu, who I tucked in right next to her. She eventually nodded off. I’m waiting for her to come out now with her arms full.

Bright and cold this morning. Yesterday I loaded the truck for a run to the convenience center. SIL was sick (we suspect food poisoning) or I’d have had him take it all. If he’s not better today, I’ll take it. I’m also hoping to run the mower along the side strip, and take the push mower to the area in front of the shop. I bought a border fence for that area, hoping it’d keep Cozmo out. I’m going to seed it and count on the forecast rain to keep it watered.

We’ll see how much is accomplished.

Happy Thursday!

Morning all. Glad Roxy enjoyed her party, FCM.

Feel better soon, Butters.

Hippy, I like looking at railroad cameras (Virtual Railfan) around the US and was a bit surprised to see places in Missouri, Pennsylvania and Nebraska with snow…it’s 46F here and heading for 67F, so no snow here.

gotti, got on ya for helping with the food distribution and good on PWAISDN (what does that stand for again??) for the impending unemployment.

{nellie}. Hope the joints are aching less.

nettie, not sure I could do what you do; putting up with that snark would be…interesting times…

Dot, take care, roommate is trying (in several senses of the word).

As for me, I did get my stimulus check (I made more than the maximum, so not the whole amount). I also got my monthly annuity payment, but instead of taking the taxes out as they have always done, I got the full amount. Not against money, mind you, but it was unexpected and I have sent them an e-mail to inquire about this.

And except for mailing bills and bringing the garbage/recycle cans in once they are picked up, that should be all the constructive stuff I do today.

All y’all take care.

Roxy is off to the Dr for her 2-year shots, (injections, not the other kind) and SIL has said he’ll take the trash today. I’ve got a load of sheets in the washer and they’ll go out on the line shortly. And I need to remake the bed. When it warms a little more, I’ll do my outside chores.

Have any of you had the “late winter mix storms” predicted? We were supposed to get it overnight but the sun is up now. Not that I’m complaining, I think I’d better get out there and walk Mauser in case it does get crappy. Oh wait, longhair75, I see you did mention it. At least yours has gone down. Our weather people tend to be fairly accurate, but sometimes late.

Buttercup, sorry about the allergies. I feel so lucky I’ve never had them. Foods, medication, plants, etc.

nellie, sorry as well about your hands. Is this a recurring thing? I haven’t paid the attention I should.

Happy Thorsday!

It’s a cold 36 degrees outside, and we have flurries.

Lily came by for a playdate this morning, so the dogs are happy.

Grumpy mood today.
Didn’t help that I saw a message from the governor (or was it the mayor) on FB telling me what I CAN do now, like did you know it’s okay for me to talk on the phone, read a book, watch a movie, and clean my house?
Goddamn glad the I have somebody to tell me what I can do, because God knows I’m too fucking stupid to figure that out on my own.
I mean really, this is the kind of shit the asshole governor (or mayor) thinks we need to be told.

My house was originally built in 1934. I’m told it’s had three additions over the decades, starting as a cabin and ending up a house… I don’t know when the living room was built, whether it’s an addition or part of the original cabin, but it had French doors in back. Wooden frames and thin, single-pane glass. It was cold and draughty in Winter. Over a decade ago I replaced them with modern metal-framed doors with double-paned glass. They’re much more efficient, and keep the noise out too. But what about the old doors?

I leaned them up against the telephone pole out front. That’s how neighbours share things. Someone took them. Every so often, I wonder where they ended up.

Yesterday I went out for my walk. I have a ⅔ mile route that I do three times, plus a little extra that gives me 2.1 miles. But yesterday I got to yakkin’ with a neighbour. I decided to cut my walk short and only go around the block. I turned right instead of left. There’s a house on that street that has a semi-enclosed porch. It has French doors. They’re white instead of the natural dark wood of the doors I gave away, but they look like they may be ‘my’ doors. If I ever see anyone there, I’ll ask where they got them. I’d love to know they’d been put to good use.

**sari **- you do realize that such messages are aimed at the lowest common denominator - emphasis on LOWEST. They’re the same people who have to be told not to use a hairdryer in the shower. You know that some people don’t have the sense God gave a goose…

I’m pissed at myself. I had a check sent to pay our HELOC, but I addressed it wrong. I put the street of one branch and the city of another. So I expect it’s lost in LALA land. Dammit. And it’s now late, so I’m literally going to pay a penalty for my brain fart. Dammit. It would have been easier if the damned credit unions could talk to each other, but for some reason, the one we have here can’t do direct payments to the one where our loan is, so they have to mail the check. Dammit.

Clearly Roxy needs some of these:

I have a couple of packs in the “Kitchen Drawer of Random and Inexplicable Things.” If you want to PM me your address, I’ll send them to you. They’ll keep her entertained for a while.

Thanks, Miss Owl, but I don’t think I need to encourage pyromania in one so young! I seem to recall we used them on a sibling’s cake back in my childhood days. Said sib was not amused, but the rest of us were.

We cancelled our England trip that was scheduled for the end of August. We lost the deposit on our accommodations but the airline will give us a credit good for 2 years. We figured we go in May 2021. In today’s WaPo, the Health Minister of England their stay at home may extend another 18 months. I am not amused.

Wet one, I wonder how many of us will actually get a vacation this year. I wanted to go out West in June/July, but that seems unlikely right now. Hope you can go in 2021, England is a great visit.

FCM, let me see if I got this; Roxy had her birthday yesterday, now she’s going to get shots from the Doc? Mess that kid’s mind up…

And I’ve sent the bills to the wrong address too (or simply forgot to mail them). Hopefully the penalty won’t be too painful.

Sari, I agree with Moooooomm, you need to speak to the lowest common denominator, and you’re far above that.

Just finished a Big Bowl O’Sallit. Garbage and Recycle folks haven’t been here yet, so no reason to go outside (nice and clear, but still just 60F).

All y’all take care.

He is the Partner Without An Interesting Straight Dope Name.

And now back to keeping your money moving along. The website people have done a fine job of keeping the online stuff, well, online, but someone has to give them the access to do so.

**MetalMouse **- apparently she’s inherited her BeePa’s interest in things medical. They had to get some blood out of her finger to check for lead (a state requirement before they can go to school.) Daughter said she watched, fascinated, the whole time. Then when she got the shot, Daughter said “All done” and Roxy said “OK” and went about being Roxy. Anyway, she’s good for another 6 months.

And I just finished refilling 3 gas cans and mowing along the outside of the yard.

A little earlier today, a guy stopped at the door and gave me his card - he was looking for yard work. I talked to **FCD **and then contacted him - he’s coming back this afternoon. We need someone to cut up some downed trees and haul them back into the woods, plus there are a lot of large branches caught up in and around the fence that I want moved. The guy seemed kinda desperate for work and frankly, these are jobs we don’t want to do. So we will put some of our stimulus money into his pocket.

Until he gets here, I’m gonna chill.

Thanks, Miss Owl, but I don’t think I need to encourage pyromania in one so young! QUOTE]

Everyone needs a hobby! She can start out with a little pyromania, then move on to explosives. Don’t you want her to have something interesting for Show & Tell when she starts school?

Note to self: NEVER let Miss Owl be alone with Roxy.

Her fearlessness is scary enough. We’re starting a pool for when she’ll have her first ER visit/broken bone.

Mail brought our quarterly statements for our annuities. One lost just under 13%, the other, just over 13%. Fortunately, we don’t need to touch either one just yet, so we can let them sit and recover. But I still weep inside a bit when I look at the numbers.

Roxy is spending the night with her other grandmother. Daughter didn’t want to take her, but it’s only her MIL and FIL, so it should be OK. Is it paranoia when you’re not sure if there’s a threat?

Time to think about supper.

It started coming down here about 10.00, and we now have about two inches on the ground. The roadways are still warm enough that it is turning to slush.

Felt worse when I woke up this morning but have made rapid improvement and am now feeling pretty good! Yay! Baker, I have lupus. I got careless and spent too much time in the midday sun. I didn’t even wear a hat! :smack: UVA rays can trigger lupus symptoms, so florescent lights can also cause issues. Usually I go to the gym during the summer, but with gyms closed, I itch to walk.

I just got a call from the complex manager. The office has been closed for two weeks, so they’re just calling to check on people. Next week they’ll be leaving a plastic bag with a mask by my door. I think that’s nice.

FCM, I hope Roxy tolerated her two-year-old shots OK. Boy, one day you’re blowing out a candle and feasting, and the next, grownups are coming at you with needles. Such is life. Actually, immunity against diseases is a pretty great birthday gift.

Sari, think of those silly notices as the equivalent of the flight attendant’s obligatory, “To fasten your seatbelt, insert the metal end into buckle” speech and ignore it. Some people apparently DO live under rocks. (I hear the rent is cheap and the neighbors are stoned.)

flyboy, it’d be so cool to see where those doors ended up!

MetalMouse, glad you got your stimulus check, whatever the size!

I’d really like to go out and get some fresh air, but it’s sunshiny. Hm. My balcony is shady. Maybe I’ll sit out there.
