Battlestar Galactica 2.7 — "Home, Pt. 2" (open spoilers)

Well, Adama did tell Tyrol “guard everybody,” which included Zarek & Helo. So Adama isn’t necessarily in a trusting mood. But he is in a very forgiving mood, since he pretty much hugged & forgave just about everyfrakingbody.

And Zarek pretty much said he told #2 not to do it. As he knelt next to the rapidly-expiring baddy, he kept telling him that he had made a mistake. Everybody is taking the sid ethat says Zarek didn’t instigate anything, his #2 just operated in excess of his orders.

Up till this episode (and the ensuing discussions), I assumed that the people leaving Kobol had always known the locations of the various planets that eventually formed the 13 colonies. So it was no surprise that they knew where Earth was or how the sky looked from there. I thought it was the settlers’ decendants who lost track of Kobol and Earth. The inhabitants of Kobol may have scoped out those other planets for years before leaving.

I don’t have a problem suspending disbelief for some things on this show (like all 12 constellations being in the same sky from the same vantage point), but the 12 colonies in one solar system bugs me for some reason. Maybe I can just pretend they’re all moons around one giant planet or something.

I’m interested in others’ take on Roslin’s statement “I didn’t ask for your forgiveness.” I took it as “I didn’t ask for your forgiveness because I didn’t do anything wrong” (which leaves the door open for future conflict between her and Adama). My boyfriend took it as “I didn’t ask for your forgiveness because it was too much to ask, so what a nice thing to give it to me.”

That’s exactly how I had seen it. I had assumed that the locations of Kobol and Earth were something that had just been forgotten and lost over the years of life in the colonies. “Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it,” and all that.

I’m with you. Any time I’ve said something similar, it’s because I knew I hadn’t done anything wrong. I don’t believe that Roslin believes she is in error at all.

And wisely, she didn’t add, “and I forgive you for arresting me.”

Like the brain Starbuck ripped out of the raider.
Maybe someone else has the probe and uses it to project to Baltar.

Regarding the many planet solar systems in BG and Firefly, I figured that if they have FTL at some point, they would pick a suitable solar system with a lot of planets to settle. Maybe they had to search through a couple thousand systems first.

Didn’t they refer to the Lagoon Nebula as being in Scorpius (as seen from Earth)? It’s actually in Sagittarius; about 6500 light years away.

Man, I just hope it works out that they discover that humankind actually originated on Earth, not Kobol; I don’t know if I can suspend my disbelief far enough otherwise.

Did anybody catch the Helo/Boomer conversation after Adama showed up? Something about Adama killed the real Boomer before she was a child?

They were talking about Galactia Boomer being killed in cold blood, without a trial, and how Adama only gave the killer 30 days for it.

I still think Six is a chip. Why would they be able to detect it? If its cylon technology there is no way for their relatively mundane scans to detect it.

They can’t detect cylons, so why would they be able to detect their implant technology?

Somehow the Bio-Cylons can still communicate across space and be plugged into their “network” (except apparently ‘good Boomer’).

So when Baltar was screwing Six on Caprica he probably got infected with some Pseudo-Biological implant thingee.

Yep, 30 days for unauthorized discharge of a firearm (major safety hazard). He could have charged her with destruction of government property but not murder. After all Cylons aren’t persons they’re machines/things/chattel (This seems to be the standred Colonial view).

Did anyone else think that Starbuck has been acting distinctly girlish lately? Her hair has grown out and she has it in a cute little ponytail, she looked like a stunned child upon seeing Adama, and she had a big goofy grin inside the tomb, as opposed to her usual smartass grin.

As for Firefly, I’m pretty sure they never explicitly say whether or not all the planets are in one system or several, or whether there is FTL travel or not. I’ve watched the series several times now, and that’s the sort of detail I keep an eye out for.

I agree too. I took it as Roslin’s diplomatic, leaderlike way to coax Adama into admitting she’d been right about, well, everything - Kobol’s identity, getting the arrow, finding the way to Earth, etc. She’d have been entirely within her rights to do a little “Ha, ha, I was right, you were wrong, the scrolls are true and I’m their Oracle” dance all over his little chest, followed by “Now, servant, pleasure your mistress, right here in the grass, right now”. Oh, wait, they can string out the stubborn pride / sexual tension stuff between them for a couple of seasons at least.

You’re also right that the Kobolians might still have known about Earth, which might explain the secrecy and mumbo-jumbo about the way back.

On the same-system question, IIRC from Elosha’s scripture readings, only one ship, the Galleon, arrived on Kobol (from where?) to evacuate the colonists. I doubt they’d have split up if it hadn’t been easy to do. That still leaves the 13th Colony question open - did they go from Kobol *back * to Earth, or had they stayed on Earth the entire time while the colonists left for Kobol? As for their worship of the Olympian gods, either they came from ancient Greece, or in some distant future of ours those myths will be revived as a general religion, or this is another alternate-universe dodge.

I’m coming to think Six is a telepathic projection from Cylon Central Command, aka “God”, not the chip she’d led us to believe. Her actions this episode seemed designed to put Baltar back off-balance, after he’d shown signs of independence and rebellion from her wishes. That includes the frumpy track suit, showing him that her control over him wasn’t only via Little Baltar and couldn’t be overcome via the little willpower he has. Nice to hear Tricia laugh and joke a little, to remind us there’s a human actress behind the Maxim centerfold.

Not that big a deal. She hasn’t had time for a visit to the hairdresser lately, what with fighting alongside the Wolverines and all. Adama is a surrogate father figure (her own perhaps having tortured her as a child), he would have been her father-in-law in fact, she knew he’d been shot, and no wonder she was glad to see him. The grin might be from simple vindication for her act of mutiny in taking the keys to the Raider, combined with confirmation of her faith in the Gods. She’s the same person, we just know her better now.

I hate it when that happens.

That one, at least, has been settled: in “Firefly”, there are roughly 70 terraformed worlds of various sizes, all in the same system. I know that’s a bit hard to swallow, but there it is.

Is Six a chip or not? Hahaha. I thought we’d actually finally find out.

Interesting how different Six looks when her hair and outfit changes from Sex Kitten to Grad Student, dontcha think? I really don’t think she’s just a bit of a psychotic break because Baltar knows things because Six tells him things that he couldn’t possibly know on his own.

From what Six says, however, it seems to me that those who speculated (including me) that the Cylon Master Plan was to follow Galactica to Earth so they can make it a clean sweep might just be right.

Regarding Crypt-Transportation…maybe it was just an illusion/hologram? We know the ancients/gods had high tech, so it’d be feasible. The Cylons know more about human religion than humans because they’ve actually been doing archaeology and stuff instead of chanting random lines from old fragments of ancient texts. They were studying them to try to find Earth so that when they took out the 12 colonies they could get number thirteen as well.

Obviously something didn’t go right with their plan and for some reason they need Hoo-mans to lead them to Earth.

Real Doctor continues to be my favorite bit-part character.

Finagle - constellations are just imaginary constructs and that’s the point. They didn’t look up and see the 12 colonies (which consist of exactly one star anyways), they managed to see the symbols of the 12 colonies. Apparently Earth was always special because of this.

And, yes, Interstellar Species went from point A to points B-N and then returned from N back to A to make a map. This is so inconcievable because why?

The nebula was a landmark. “Judging from apparent size and all that Earth is approximately 500 light years from the nebula. That gives us a radius to search.” As for drifting star systems - who says that the VR/hologram/whatever is showing the view from 2000 years ago and not today’s view?

So what was the deal with Six in the track suit in a ponytail? Was it just me, or was that a distinctly a ‘Starbuck-ish’ kind of look? I’m guessing it was a little bit of misdirection on the writers’ part, as after that I was immediately thinking ‘Starbuck’s carrying the Cylon God-Baby.’ 'cause she’s the best surrogate mother in the fleet

Of course, then Baltar said something to that effect, and then it was later shown to most likely be Boomer instead.
Also, was I wrong in thinking that Balthar gave the Doc the finger when he pushed his glasses up on his face as they were examining the test results? My wife immediately started laughing, and I saw it on the later showing.

So here’s what happened: Mrs. Albert is on the phone with her one of her bestest friends, with whom she hasn’t spoken for many weeks. At 9:59 PM, she says, “Well, I’ve got to go. My husband’s show is on.” Of course, she really meant to say “My favorite show is on.” But she can’t admit that to her female friend. Victory!

We both noticed Baltar showing us the finger, and giggled accordingly. We also both thought that #6 looked like Starbuck in her “college student at the library” getup. Tricia Helfer looks great in normal clothes… it’s too bad she’s a Victoria’s model and gets forced to wear all those “sexy” clothes. I’ll get over it.

It was great to see Adama come face-to-face with Kara, Lee, Roslyn, etc., but I didn’t quite understand his reaction to Boomer. It’s not like she tried to kill him or anything. The Zarek intrigue had me anxious, but the most suspenseful part for me was when they all went into the Tomb of Athena. I wasn’t sure if it was a Cylon trap. And then… they found it!!! Earth, here we come!!! I feel that the series could almost end next episode, if they want it to. But it won’t, thankfully.

I was expecting more from the Sharon/Tyrol scene.

This is what I don’t get. If the cylons know more about the human’s religion than the humans, why couldn’t the cylons get the arrow and find the tomb of Athena and Earth themselves long before the humans even got there?
