LiLi, I think at this stage you’re probably quite justified in re-christening Aerin as Mittens. Or Scarf. Or Hat. Really, it all depends on what warm fur-lined item you’d most like for the upcoming wintry months.
Nava, doesn’t the uni know that blocking access to WoSW could cause mass riots and bloodthirsty rampages by students who have no other outlet for their urge to play Orcs? Especially during midterms. That’s just awful.
Urge to mangle Boss Guy has receded. Also, I’ll be on my own for most of the week, as Other Coworker had to fly back home due to a family emergency. Ick. Not fun.
Ok, day is better now. My appointment has been survived and we’ve got some decent business for tomorrow. And I’m eating cheese enchiladas at my favorite Mexican restaurant. That helps a lot too.
Muppet, I think the uni hasn’t figured out the root cause yet, but they seem to know how to fix it. There appears to be a sort of passive-agressive war going on, where when we call they give us that line about “not supporting games” - but I for one intend to call every day if I have to. There’s more of them, but Navarra didn’t survive as an independent country surrounded by three much-larger ones for as long as it did without a bad case of ingrained skull-thickedness. The fact that it does get fixed after we call somehow makes it more personal, as do those supercilious “we do not support games.”
Of course, an alternative to the first line is that they have indeed figured out the root cause but are trying to get us to stop gaming, perceiving it as a waste of time and of their cables. In which case I’m going to call channeling Tweety Bird to sweetly inquire about “the games tickets” for the next seven months if I have to. Them Scots may be stubborn, but not more than me.
Dinner and my tummy are having a disagreement. burp Oops. Schowwy. :o
Thought you might like to see the new locationof the aquarium. The light on top is on a temporary mount - the final configuration will be prettier. And, obviously, the doors aren’t done yet. Note the new wall color.
This has been a heck of a day. I’m ready for the weekend…
Speaking of food: has anyone else heard about this book (well, really, the book discussed in this story)? It’s by an All Things Considered producer and sounds like fun. I heard about it on a different show, but can’t find the link right now. The sweet potato pound cake sounds yummy.
Happy Birthday, Rebo!!!
Welcome newbies.
Gotta go find dinner, then I’ll be back…
I decided to walk home, since I was feeling blah from all the sunlight deprivation… it seems to have worked, because I feel MUCH better now.
LiLi, you could surrender them to the THS and hope they can adopt them out to a new home. It’s not uncommon, and they’ll just have you sign a bunch of paperwork confirming that you give up all claims to the animal and understand that as soon as they’re handed over, you cannot find out what happened to them, where they went, or attempt to get them back. There’s also a fee to cover their costs.
The only thing that concerns me is that there have been some very disturbing allegations about the treatment of ill and/or injured animals at THS. This isn’t meant to discourage you, BTW… but these are facts to consider if you decide to go through with giving them up.
Personally, I would vote for kicking the cats.
ETA: gt, that cookbook looks good. I do believe I’ll have to try that Sweet Potato Cake recipe. Omnomnomnom
Brought a couple of coffees home, as I am wont to do on a daily basis. The wife was sleeping (she caught my cold a week after I got it, so she’s about a week behind in the recovery process) so I was quiet, went into the kitchen to set the coffees down, all lights off. No sooner did I set it down than did I hear something hit the ground with a wet thud.
Oh shit.
Yup. Evidently I set the coffees down (in their paper tray) on a stove element rather precariously, and they did the only thing they could when gravity gets bitchy: They fell. Coffee all over the floor.
sigh
Cleaned up, went and got more.
Gonna make tuna salad for dindin. Forgot to pick up olives though.
I am off tomorrow and may tell my RN job on Thursday to take a hike. I HATE being at work when one of my babies is sick. We are going to watch ST movie whatever–the one with Picard AND Kirk tonight.
Well dang, rigs, it sucks that your son is sick. I know what you mean about not wanting to work when the kids are sick. Mine are grown for all intents and purposes and I still want stay home and take care of them on the rare occasion they fall ill.
Work was blah, so I won’t go into it. Just another long, boring day, kicking out reports and trying to get through my workload.
I’m thinking leftovers for dinner. I’ve got some gravy, pork roast and pasta. I didn’t have taters when I made the pork roast, so I made pasta to put gravy on.
The weather is truly sucky. Cold, windy and rainy. The actual temps aren’t cold, but you throw the wind and rain in there and it just sinks right into your bones and makes it seem colder than it actually is at the moment.
I guess I should start dinner. I hear my son rustling around in the kitchen.
Sorry about #2 son, rigs. Hope he’s all healthy very soon.
::waves at ems::
Hey…it’s Haze! ::waves some more::
Glad to hear SO is just busy, Nava. Thanks for the update.
Your kids are clever, Soapy. They made me smile.
Sorry about the spilled coffee, Mork.
My team is falling apart: 1 person with H1N1; 1 person with a weekend accident (not life-threatening, but big owie). We have about 2 weeks’ worth of stuff to do before the weekend. This’ll be fun.
I’ve been vegging: knitting, watching an episode of Castle, eating dinner (ham and cheese quesadilla, an orange, chocolate chips/dried cherries/almonds). Need tea.
Gotta crawl into bed, I think. Getting up really early again tomorrow.
Thanks for getting us started, by the way, swampy.
