And he seems to do that often. Someone will say something creepy or rude, the rest of us will respond with, “Dude, WTF?!” and BigT will be all, “Forgive them, they know not what they say.”
Maybe he identifies with people who say creepy things. If he’s really never leaving the house, I doubt his social skills are that great…
Can I offer a hypothesis?
Perhaps BigT tends to side with the underdog, whether they’re right or wrong, because that’s how he sees himself. It seems to me he fears the world outside of his door not just because of panic attacks, but because he sees it as cruel, painful, mean, and harshly judgemental. So when he perceives people being any of the above, he jumps into Super Hero mode. Defender of the weak. Protector of what’s good and pure. Maybe his real life is so empty that playing this role gives him something to feel good about. I don’t know. I’ve never had a problem with him before, so I guess I’m being like Cat Whisperer.
I’m not saying the OP isn’t justified, but I do think people are kinda going over board. Yes, he’s obese and suffers from various neuroses. But why should it bother people if he wants to participate in certain threads? I don’t know the guy’s full history, since I don’t participate in my threads, but do we know that he’s not in a relationship? Or that he’s virginal? Or are people just assuming these things about him?
I believe him when he says he hasn’t read this thread, hence his strange apology. Knowing the little that I know about him, I wouldn’t think he would.
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. We have to chase him. Because he’s the hero that the SDMB deserves. But not the one it needs right now. And so we’ll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a guardian. A watchful protector. Our dark knight.
So is BigT the hero we need or the scapegoat we deserve, or…um…something?
I think BigT is Batman. Or the Comedian.
If BigT didn’t exist, we’d have to invent him. Or someone else. Or do something else. Maybe. That’s all I’m saying.
So basically he’s a loser that contributes nothing to the threads. Doesn’t mean we should baby him.

monstro, I believe he’s stated that he’s a virgin for religious reasons, and that he is overweight. Okay, no big deal. That’s NOT what this is about.
Look, I feel for the guy – I do. I have OCD, and I’ve suffered from depression. What I DO mind is his constant lectures – NOT his taking up for the “underdog”. I don’t like being told I’m an asshole for calling out someone for being a racist. I don’t like being told that if someone is mentally ill, that means none of the rules should apply to them, and if you call them an asshole, then YOU’RE the one who’s a jerk.
And then when confronted about it, he runs away, claiming he can’t deal with it. Well, then don’t start something you can’t finish. (He told me to Pit him if I had a problem with him…yet there is a Pit thread, but he can’t bother to read it)
The reason people are bringing up his condition is that he uses it as an excuse as to why no one can call him out, or why the mods can’t give him a warning, as happened in the thread previously linked. Also, he feels criticize and lecture people on “correct social morals”, despite the fact he has no knowledge or experience.
And I sure as HELL don’t like being blamed for HIS actions.
And a lot of times the so-called “underdog” is simply a dickbag being called on (rightly) on his or her behavior.
Again, I really do feel bad for the guy. If he’s going through what he says, it sounds pretty bad. But don’t use it as an excuse to be an asshole, then turn around and blame it on others. (As quoted above, the whole, “YOU PEOPLE ARE MAKING ME DO THIS!!!”)

I’m really not in favor of kicking someone when they’re down (although** kayaker **makes an excellent point). What frustrates me, though, is BigT’s assertions that we should not hold people’s past posts against them. He calls it holding a grudge.
But there’s a reason why this community has the rules it does about registering and posting under a singe user name, no socks, no anonymous posting. And that’s to create accountability for our posts. I see it less a grudge-holding than as forming an opinion of someone over time, based on that person’s own words and actions, but** BigT** would have us believe that that is petty and wrong.
