Commercials you actually LIKE

Budweiser Beer (which I don’t drink) always seems to come up with a Super Bowl ad with their Clydesdale horses that is memorable.

To me the best was the 2013 ad, which still brings tears: - YouTube

I hate to keep bringing up old – indeed, ancient – commercials. I thought about starting a new thread. But…

There used to be a clothing store called Miller’s Outpost. They had a couple of cowboys (one not so dumb, the other kind of childlike) in their commercials. The smarter of the two was always exasperated with the other. In one Christmas commercial, the smarter one gives the other one a puppy. He may have put the puppy in a Christmas stocking; ISTR that the gift was anonymous. That was a very sweet commercial. As the campaign went on, the two cowboys more ‘anachronistic’ and the commercials lost their charm.

Beer commercials? This one’s the best.

Snickers Brady Bunch, with Machete.

Progressive commercial with Flo playing all the parts.

Herding cats

Another series of commercials I liked was for The Federated Group, an electronics chain in L.A. Their spokesman was Fred R. Rated, played by Shadoe Stevens.

Here’s a compilation.

(I didn’t care for the first, Christmas, one.)

Classic. . . hell, some beer commercial, Budweiser? With the horses kicking the football:
“Do they always do that?”
“Nah, they usually go for two.”

And I really loved the Direct TV commercial with Drew Brees and the guy at the Sunday cooking class with his new girlfriend. . . I have a suspicion that they removed that one due to the women issues the NFL is having. In the commercial his girlfriend gets her eyebrows burned off.

Second on the Quizno’s dead hamster things commercial. Just great.

There’s another weird commercial about Narwhals being cool. . . here it is, Sprint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwH637_2Goo

And, I’ve just discovered where I got ‘Everybody laugh! Ha-HAAAAAAAAH!’

Other countries’ adverts can be an eye-opener (NSFW in a lot of places, I’d imagine, though it came out in 1987):

Honda, "The Cog"

I was always a bit touched by this one for American Airlines.

The E-trade baby always cracked me up. In current ads, the screaming goat of GEICO (I think) makes me laugh. I also laugh at Flo’s family bits (I’ve got the meat sweats!)

Currently running:
“It’s just one bed, Steve…” Definitely two levels of communication going on here!

Also the VW commercial with the mom’s and their 3 sons.

Troy Polamalu’s Head and Shoulder spots – especially the one where his hair just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

Oh I loved that one. What about the one, I believe it’s for Direct TV, where someone gets mad about their cable company, and goes on a rampage, ends up in a crazy situation, and then it says, “Don’t Do Crazy Situation – Switch to Direct TV”? (Like one guy lands on a roof and then crashes through a skylight into a dinner party?)

And of course, there’s the Dear Kitten series, from Friskies. (Mostly online, but who in their right mind can hate that one?)

That one’s awesome.

Hey, anyone remember Mark Messier’s Lay’s Potato Chips commercials? Like he keeps going back to borrow stuff from this guy, just to get potato chips? Or when Discover did those spots with “Peggy” and the NHL players? I liked the one where Tim Thomas goes to take a cab and the driver is this chick who’s like totally obsessed with him, and has all these pictures of him on her visor.

There’s a new Kemp’s dairy and ice cream commercial playing in the upper Midwest (my hometown has their ice cream factory). The young girl leading the cow and looking at it with such respect is what makes the commercial work; it reminds me of showing 4-H dairy cows.

It’s at Kemps Like One of the Family. I’d like to know what the song is from - ideas?

got Milk?

I won’t spoil this one with more details -

I always enjoyed Hyundai’s Pick Your Team ad from a couple years back. I particularly love how committed the mom looks to the whole thing.

Me too. I like this one also.

I loved the old Holiday Inn “Business Guys” commercials. But especiallyThe Pillows.

The GMC ads. The first was precision, about baseball. The next was sharp, about sharp dressed men. I just love the music. It’s The Who.

Yeah, gotta love Eminence Front!
