It’d be sad if we didn’t find out what the extent of the consequences are for Manny due to only being 5 eps left (I can easily see the show indicate that there were consequences, but keeping for later how deep those consequences were - considering they’ve been keeping Zed’s history a mystery)
Is it cancelled? Last I heard it was being cut to 13 episodes this season but was coming back next year. Did that change?
Heck, for a Doctor Who fan like me, getting 13 episodes in a season feels like overindulgence.
From what I understand, renewal is a possibility, but not yet decided (or at least not yet announced). Not getting the back half of the season is a bad sign, though, I’d think.
Yeah. I’ve read a ton of stuff saying that no show that didn’t get a back half of a pilot season was ever renewed (shows like Sleepy Hollow never asked for a back half of a season, for instance).
However, there is always hope… and it is a new age, and NBC’s new offerings otherwise have failed, so you never know.
That was a pretty good episode. I’m surprised the bad guys were able to enter John’s house when he left the alarms on, so to speak.
I got the sense Zed turned them off when she left to go to the store/bar, and forgot to turn them back on when she brought pretty-boy back. In fact, I was surprised she was able to off one of the retrieval people, despite the presence of Chekov’s doorway into nothing.
Am I the only one that thought Sister Ann-Marie was really, really, really adorable. That actress is just plain cute. I had a hard time picturing her as both a former occultist/Constantine-shagger and a nun, but by the end she had pulled it off.
Also surprised Lamashtu was able to hang around a convent without going berserk with all the crosses and other icons around.
I thought she was way way too young to have known him as a teenager.
She mentioned meeting him when she was 15 (John, you pedo). If John was in his early 20s at the time, and she’s now in her early 20s now, the timing works. The actress, Claire van der Boom, graduated in 2005, so her actual age is pretty close to her show age.
According to this script, it was him that was 15 when they knew each other, not her:
“You’re wrong, John. I owe an anxious 15-year-old boy with no self worth.
Always hiding from your father and aching for a mum. Should’ve shagged you then, but instead I introduced you to my world.”
So I’d assume she was 15 too, otherwise a 10 yr old offering to shag a 15yr old boy, well, let’s just agreee it’s not right ![]()

Yeah, I think they were both around 15ish.
I think that was a fantastic episode - and the show is hitting its stride in balancing between the overarching heaven vs. hell story and the “monster of the week”. Interestingly the “Rising Darkness” ™ is not just some generic bad guys getting stronger, but actually being done by someone (the Brujeria). I liked that turn. It seemed like the Rising Darkness was just going to be a generic reason for why suddenly all this evil was happening and they were going to retcon why later.
TV by the numbers now has it listed as cancelled. Did it get fully cancelled?
Not yet. IIRC, there was quite a discussing the comboxes when TV by the numbers listed it cancelled - people saying they shouldn’t have done that because there is no official mention of cancellation, just an announcement that they are stopping production and ending the season at 13. That’s all the official news we’ve gotten so far.
I must have heard it wrong then, my bad!
Of course, Anne-Marie in a convent and hard-livin’ John Constantine would probably age at significantly different rates. Of course, the actor playing Constantine is in his early thirties. I’m not sure how old Constantine is supposed to be in this incarnation.
Probably early 30s. Certainly not the 40-something he was for most of Hellblazer, but also definitely no less than 30, with his history. So, most likely somewhere in his 30s, probably at the young end.
I would have said 35-40.
It quietly came back on Friday and had another really solid episode. If the show continues, which I rather doubt, it could become a really great show.
However, I am expecting cancellation any day now.
Pretty much a done deal: http://screenrant.com/constantine-ratings-drop-cancellation-renewal-season-2/
Warner Bros is pushing it, so maybe it’ll move to the WB, er, CW.
What is a done deal? That it is cancelled?
zap2it has been calling it cancelled for a month: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/01/13/nbc-predictions-about-a-boy-is-certain-to-be-canceled/346838/
Yep, I thought it was the best episode of the season, and fiinally was what I was looking for in a Constantine show. Too bad it just doesn’t have the viewership.
