Technically, the forum is to PAL at other places on the interwebs, not just the SDMB. No one seems to want to mention other places, however.
So, let them make fun of us. I’ve been over there plenty, and I was on the snark boards, too, reading only at both places. The tone of the mocking is worlds apart. The GB mocks us in an affectionate way, and I don’t mind their mocking. The snark boards were mean.
And **BigT **really *does *have a fascinating for Giraffe! I’m amazed; I like Giraffe but really he’s just a funny guy and not *that *awesome. Sorry, Giraffe.

Seriously, though, the ignore list is awesome. I went a long time thinking, “I’ll just scroll past,” but once I started using it, it really made my experience better.
Yup.
I think it’s goofy how many people take pride in not using a feature that really can improve the board experience immensely. If I were going to scroll past, why not make what I’m scrolling past really short and unobtrusive? Works for me.

The only thing I miss about the ignore list is that Firefox plug-in that made the posts from ignored people completely disappear (not just hidden). It was bliss - they wouldn’t even show up in quotes!
I want that plug-in back. The creator stopped supporting it a few iterations back.

I generally like BigT. But like another poster (SfG I think), posts in ATMB are generally wholly ignorable, shrill and whiny. Again, in most contexts (er, maybe half the pit, but I don’t keep track well enough) are great Board-fodder, but a small sub-set are beyond inane. The personal crush on giraffe makes me wish they’d get a room.
PS G’raffe was a great Pit mod. No complaints about current mods, just saying I liked the atmosphere then.

I don’t frequent the Giraffe board, but I have no problem with it. Actually I think of it as an insurance policy. If the SDMB goes belly-up, the teeming millions will need a place to regroup. They sure won’t do that at the snack board, a haven for cowards, run by miscreants.
The Giraffe boards also function as an afterlife for posters banned from this locale. Plus, they are a laboratory for board policies… Giraffe has no compunction about treating his members as guinea pigs, prodding them with sticks, etc.
