Did you all change all of your clocks in the MMP?

Up, and have had my fist caffeine ingestion.

Had lunch with Scotticher yesterday. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve seen her, and longer than that since my wife had seen her. It was a nice visit.

OK… gotta get more caffeine.

Lucky you. I finally got Tobias to bed around 10. That lasted till midnight:30, and it took about half an hour to get him settled again. After that, when he fussed, I ignored him, and he always fell back to sleep, But then I’d lay there wondering if I should check to see if he was still breathing… He woke 3 times, and I finally got up with him at 6.

He’s been returned to his fambly and I’m just back from WalMart. FCD is heading to the apartment again since his mom isn’t answering her phone again. She keeps turning the ringer off because of the way she picks it up. They need a land line.

The sun is out - maybe I’ll try some leaf-vac later. We’re promised a freeze tonight, so I need to bring in my spider plants. Other than that, dunno what the day holds. I’m tahred.

Happy Sunday anyway.

Took the niece and her husband out for mediocre Indian food last night. Man, we are NOT used to temperatures this low after 12 years in Portland. The wind made the chill even worse. I think we need to revisit our winter wardrobe before the really cold weather gets here.

Up, caffeinated, and packed. Headed to the boat for a few days of lounging, fishing, and (most likely) boat maintenance and cleaning. As it’s a fairly long journey, I plan to hang around for a few days so it’s not all driving.

Twas 31F when I got up, and we’re under freeze warnings. All lawnage/waterage stuff packed away and the camper’s winterized… so no problems if it freezes more. The good news is I don’t need a cooler for the wine bottles, amirite? I can just set them on the boat somewhere and let nature handle it.

Also, the devildog is off on a trip with daughter. Although we were supposed to keep him for a week, that’s all changed now. I tend to believe that plans expressed by 20-somethings are merely a definition of what won’t happen. It always changes. I suppose that’s partially a product of cellphones and constant contact. In the days of dinosaurs, we couldn’t change plans on the fly.

Hope everyone has a good last-day-of-MMP-week.

We’ve got to deal with that in the next few weeks. FCD thinks we should have hauled out for the winter. I disagreed. We’re staying in the water. But we’ve got to drain the fresh water system and winterize the engine. The yard guys will have to get our generator running, then winterize it. Oh, the joys of boat ownership!

My dad calls them that when the Huskies lose. Today I wore my purple hoody with a gold W, but no one here has a clucking flue what it’s about. Wrong kind of football, in their minds.

Hope it stays that way. I made the mistake of searching for news about Phoenix. Found something else which was unpleasant, so decided to stop there. I’m better off not knowing.

Had the same problem some months ago. One of the advantages of being stuck at home - no colds! Hope you’re doing better.

Managed to get out for a walk today - it only got up to 7.5 C / 45.5 F, but the low wasn’t much lower. At least it didn’t rain today. The week’s forecast is for more of the same temps, but wetter. Don’t mind it too much - we really need the moisture, especially up in the mountains.

Unfortunately my dad got Covid, but that’s all I know. Hopefully keeping up with the boosters will serve him well.

I made rice pudding (cook rice on the stove, add milk, then back for 2 hours), which tastes good, but I think I overdid the sugar a bit. Hubby’s happy, but I ate some raw broccoli to counteract the sugar high. Should work, right?

Anyway, getting time to settle in for the evening - it’s getting dark out there.

Stay safe and healthy.

Had sauteed mushrooms, hash browns and scrambled eggs with cheese and [Bobby Flay]Calabrian chili oil[/Bobby Flay] for brunch. cleaning now.

Well, if you had taken him out to whiz in the yard, maybe he would have stayed down longer. :stuck_out_tongue:

They don’t let us tip at our Discount Tire, which makes me feel oddly guilty because those guys are so nice and hustle even when nobody’s watching.

I am so sorry this is happening. Is that automatic pill dispenser not working or is she just not using it? I’m wondering if you might consider contacting hospice. They aren’t just for people at death’s door, I know of someone who has been in hospice for over a year. I understand they are very helpful and caring folks who might be able to help even if FIL doesn’t really qualify ATM.

Oh dear. I hope it doesn’t turn into the crud that other Mumpers have been reporting. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

I would really like to move somewhere green but it won’t happen while hubs is alive. I released the weight on my cheese this morning and it didn’t fall apart like prior cheddars did, so that is good. I’ll keep it under weight for the rest of the day and wax it tonight. I won’t start another one until I’ve been able to get into this one so you guys won’t have to hear me whining about cheddar again for another 6 months.

Yeah. About that. Folks, avoid the Phx news for a while. Something very ugly happened. There is no reason for you folks to ruin your day or even week reading about it, so just don’t.

I haven’t heard anything more about the shooting out here but everyone is still going gaga over the election so small things like a shooting in the sticks isn’t going to stand out for a while.

The folks I have known to catch Covid recently have had a fairly easy time of it. The disease isn’t as deadly and the shots make a big difference. I hope that’s how it works for your dad as well.

The water in the birdbath was frozen this morning so I’ve put out suet for the yard flock. They are also getting chopped almonds, hazel nuts and dried cherries cause that’s what I had in the cabinet. I started bringing the hummer feeders in at night last week and hubs said when he was putting them out this morning one of the flying pigs tried to take it out of his hand.

A cold front came through last night, and I think it might actually stay autumn for a while! Today’s expected high is 50 with an overnight low of 32, and the coming week looks to be much the same – though the overnights are quickly gonna start dipping into the upper 20s, then the low 20s next week. At 11:57am it’s 47, sunny, and quite breezy.

For those who’ve been willing/able to share, it’s been fun seeing where everyone is situated.

Don’t vote me off Mumper Island for this, but I’m not a gingerbread fan. Bleh.

I’m glad I went to yesterday’s lunch: 75% of the current committee members made it, which was a pretty good turnout. We sat outside, because it was 70-something degrees and sunny (until some clouds came through in the mid-afternoon, but even then it wasn’t cold). I got to meet several folks in person for the first time, which was nice. You can’t get an NAACP committee together without some of the discussion being political, but we spent most of the time just getting to know each other. It seems like a good group: there’s been a lot of turnover in the past two years, but I’m hoping the newer members stick with us for a while.

I’m nine days away from the first anniversary of my bariatric surgery, and at this point I can eat pretty much anything I want (and can eat more at one sitting): although this is the time when my psychological and emotional work gets harder, it makes eating at restaurants a lot easier! Yesterday I ordered a grilled cheese and fries, and was able to eat half of the sandwich and most of the fries with no ill effects. I expect to spend most of the next year figuring out my new normal in terms of eating habits (with help from my therapist, support group, and bariatric center team), but no longer being limited to appetizers or kids menus when I’m out is nice/a relief.

My week off ends today. :frowning: I’m not really dreading going back to work tomorrow, but it’ll be a weird day: mid-morning I’ll take Bailey to the vet for a quick weight check (the doc was concerned about her low weight at her annual exam last month, so I’ve been feeding her more for the past few weeks), then class #3 will start at 4:00 – which means I’ll have a hard stop at 3:00, so I can take the doggy out and prepare both mentally and logistically for the four-hour class. (The fourth and final class is on Wednesday…I just have to get through this week.)

No wonder! That’s gorgeous!

Suuuuure you don’t…

That’s why I went with just a photo, vs a link (and I covered the house number).

…but, I don’t pretend to have my privacy locked down. The bit of info I protect the most is my last name, because it’s uncommon, but someone determined could probably find me. I’ve shared my first name, the big mall I live near, the Metro station I live near, my main hobby, etc. I try not to make it super easy, though.

That happens to me all of the time! I’m grateful that I don’t get sick enough to need those things more often, but whenever I do get sick I know it means a trip to the pharmacy.

I hope you feel better soon!

That’s what I usually prefer, too, but this year – after waking up to a nicely chilly house a couple of times – I started to wonder if that might be a little too cold for Bailey’s comfort (because of her arthritis). So, lately I’ve been keeping the thermostat at 71 overnight. Pretty soon I’ll need to start bumping that up during the day…and by the end of the month I’ll be firing up the oil heater in my home office and the electric blanket on my couch, because this house struggles to stay warm when the outside temps get below 40. Bailey will have to figure out the overnights this winter: turning the thermostat up would either have little effect or make me way too hot.

Delivery is a wonderful thing :).

Took until after 8am for the “feels like” temperature to get above freezing. No, Buddy does not need to be out in that, no matter how much the little orange tabby jerk might think he does (he was NOT willing to let me sleep for more than about 3-4 hours at a stretch. Today might be a bit high on the caffeine intake).

Pending activities include taking donations over to a thrift store from closet-cleaning (probably Goodwill, due to more convenient location than our usuals), getting DH his flu shot finally, and some provisions. Yeah, could Instacart, but if I’m going to be out and around anyway…

Cold at the park this morning, 40 degrees but the wind was bad.
I had gloves but no hat, and I had taken the hood off my coat.
What is it with hoods on coats anymore? They are too big and loose around your head and do nothing to keep you warm. I watched Sky mom fiddle with hers the whole time, trying to keep it up over her head.
We had a good group this morning despite the cold.
Since the dogs enjoy nippy weather, they were very active and burned up a lot of energy.

My son took Cerby’s crate upstairs. Cerby has only used it three times since he has been here. When my son picked up his bed, there were a bunch of pills hidden under it. Not pills we have given him; we watch to make sure he eats them.
Niece1 hubby said Cerby liked his crate and it was his den. I haven’t seen that at all.
We’re a little more relaxed around here though, he can go where he wants and sleep where he wants.
He used to sleep by the door, now he sleeps in my bedroom.

I looked at him yesterday and thought he looks like a Merlin. I don’t know if I’ll change his name though.
I had to move the dog treats. I keep the treats in a basket by my chair in the living room. Ripple and Echo leave them alone, my son caught Cerby pigging out while I wasn’t there.

Very California looking house Sunny.

I’m sorry about your FIL FCM. It may not be something anybody wants to do, but he may end up in a home, because it is probably going to get worse to the point that he is a danger to your MIL.

I keep very little medicine other than my scripts because they always expire before I can use them up.
I don’t know why cough drops would expire though.
I’m sorry you are feeling poorly MetalMouse I hope you, and all the others with the crud, feel better soon.

I need to eat something. I had a protein bar for breakfast, then fell asleep.
Now I’m hungry.

For a week, the local news had been playing up today’s game in Munich. Seahawks fans in team swag, and full makeup… Just watched the game. In the immortal words of Popeye the Sailor, ‘How embarrasking!’

ETA: Just finished a sausage, linguiça, and cheese omelette, with Frank’s Red Hot. Frank’s Red Hot isn’t very hot.

Happy Sunday! No sun here, but the woods are lovely, dark and deep.

I have very little new. I’m going to walk to the store today. I don’t really need anything. I just want to get in a walk that has someplace warm in between coming and going. And now my dirty mind wants to add Lili von Shtupp’s line, but it’s Sunday, so I shall resist. Both my kids should call, always the highlight of my week.

MetalMouse, I hope the sore throat disappears and no other symptoms develop. I’m surprised cough drops have an expiration date. I guess if they have eucalyptus oil in them, maybe it loses potency? Anyway, remember sloth is good medicine!

FCM, I hope you and FCD get to enjoy the boat more often next season. And as always, my fingers are crossed for MIL and FIL.

Dicey, hope your dad’s OK. And I think raw broccoli constitutes culinary penance.

Taters, I haven’t had German food at a restaurant since I left Chicago and Polish food since I left Massachusetts, so it all sounds good to me! I’m so glad your mom had a nice birthday.

Too late. Ugh. Depressing and nauseating, as well as puzzling.

Sari, what the heck are those pills? I’m trying to figure out how they got there. Cerby hid them from Niece1 and hubs, or they spilled some in there without realizing it? Or Cerby had a side hustle in doggie downers?

Oh, I bet he’s even more adorable in his little coat!

This made me chortle.

I sent a Mumper friend a picture of my very humble (maybe the humblest Mumper abode) house, hoping they can post it here for me. My tech skills never work for image posting.

The American flag in the picture is curious. The county assessor rolls by slowly in a vehicle taking pictures and caught my house on a day my flag slid down the pole. I always treat the flag with respect and I’m sure I fixed that when I came home that day.

You’re not alone. One taste every ten years is plenty, thanks.

In this day and age it is not really that difficult to find people. My house picture does not have an address on it, but I am not really worried. Most people I deal with on line know what city I live in, and what I did for a living before retiring. With that, Someone would be able to track me down with a couple of phone calls.

In an emergency, my friend @BippityBoppityBoo has my full contact info.

MIL doesn’t want it till they see the Dr … no clue why. But they see her on Firday.

Been playing stoopit games on my tablet, accomplishing nothing productive, tho I did load and run the dishwasher this morning. Just feeling lazy.

I have just talked myself into making chili for dinner- but that would mean I have to go to the store.

Sad!

Be sure you have the makings for cornbread as well.

That’s part of my problem! I don’t. Hence the store.
