NewsChannel 10 Viewer Weather Pics: Dairy Cow Wearing a Pink Polka Dotted Bikini Standing Inside a Ford Mustang - Plainview, Texas - 7/13/2010 (10weatherpics.blogspot.com)

i remember cow calendars from various feed stores. mostly good looking bovines standing in a pasture, with a clear blue sky.

Oh joy. Sherry’s mom is here as are her son, wife and four snot nosed kids. I am spending a lot of time in my suite to avoid the plague. Her mom has a hotel for the next two nights and son and fam are in a motel so it’s minimal time they are here. But, I want my house back. I’m a horrible person.

Cruise is on the 16th so that’s fast approaching. I ain’t ready. Still boxes to unpack and laundry to do. I threw away my iron and board so trying to not need to buy another.

It’s back to 80F today so there is that.

Metalmouse glad you’re home. There is no place like home.
Nettie housework sucks. Count it as a win. There is always tomorrow.
FCM JUST HUGS.

I didn’t feel like walking today. Besides, it’s sprinkling and I have other things to do. Instead, I moved wood out from under my Christmas present (a nice, custom-made wood stack cover) and into the catio, the house (next to the wood stove insert), and (the rest) into the wood shed. I’ve folded up/rolled the cover.

Now the deck is clear to build a frame for the cover. I’d decided to not put a pair of PVC pipes for the wood to rest on, so as to simplify construction. Thinking about it now, it might be a good idea to have a pair of uprights to keep the logs from shifting. If I do that, then I may as well put a pair on the bottom as well.

The cover is 8 feet by five feet by 24 inches. Height (five feet) doesn’t matter so much, but the 8 foot and 24 inch dimensions should be exact (or probably an inch or two less) so that the cover will fit properly. I’ve never worked with PVC, so I don’t know how much any of the couplers (corners and Ts) add to the length of the pipes. I’d better take measurements, make best-guess measurements, cut and test-fit, and then measure before I use any glue. The Spousal Unit will roll her eyes because my motto is ‘If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing.’ But I only want to do this once.

Howdy Y’all! My day of high sloth got interrupted to do a good deed. Driveway neighbor (because our driveways are between our houses along with a little patch of grass) called around eleven-thirty this mornin’. She was at a Waffle House and her truck would not crank. I went and tried to give her battery a jump, but no dice. She needed a new battery. I took her to get a battery and the brother of a friend of her’s installed the new battery. Glad he could do that cause I have neither the tools or expertise to do so. Her truck is ancient (well, a 2000) so not full of new fangled electronics that would need to be reset and such and so on and so forth. Anywho, did that, got back to da cave around one-thirty and achieved nappage. OYKW is goin’ to fix the BLTs and oven fries for sup since I am delicate and must still recuperate.

MOOOOOOM no words of wisdom here. I just hope for the best resolution to this for all.

Taters hope the stuff works for Polar and that the infection can be cleared up easy.

MetalMouse glad you made it home safe and sound.

Nettie yes it’s a win. You did houseirk. You adulted. Thus you win.

Butters I know how you feel. You like your solitude. You are not a bad person. I like it when company comes, but I like it a lot more when they leave.

I have the tools, and changing a battery is easy. I just don’t have the inclination. Especially when the temperatures are in the teens and it’s snowing.

I’m charging my booster pack. Weirdly, it didn’t come with an AC cord. You charge it with a USB cord or – inronically – with your car’s cigarette lighter/accessory outlet. (The '66 MGB and the '99 Jeep Cherokee have cigarette lighters in them.)

Sup has been eaten. I know y’all worry about that, so I thought I would set your minds at ease.

Leftover creamed spinach with feta is warming on the stove. Leftover prime rib is out, and The Missus and I will pick our slabs o’ deadcow and then I’ll pop them into the toaster oven.

sari, is Ripple’s wound in one of his wrinkles? I’m guessing that if it is, the folds of skin may hinder healing.

Glad you made it back home metal mouse. I’ve never had a road trip involving I24, I40 or I65 where I didn’t get backed up because of an accident somewhere.

A gold star for you swampy. You’re the kind of neighbor that everyone would like to have.

The oil is changed, groceries bought from Aldi, the outlet and Sprouts, CO2 cartridge replaced and prescriptions picked up. The only thing that I didn’t get accomplished was mailing a thank you card, a birthday card and two sympathy cards. I’ll drop them off tomorrow when I get the little fuzzbutt out for a ride (it will likely rain, so a trip to Lowe’s may be in order in lieu of the dog park).

Now to mess around in the studio some.

yummy and swampy you are good people

I have a sinus cold from hell and this crappy one day and 70 degrees the next isn’t helping …and its either my nose runs which releases pressure on my face or head or I can get rid of the runny nose and cough but mt head hurts …

FCM If you were in Cali fcm you wouldn’t be going through this because mom wouldn’t have a choice as DPSS would declare her unfit to take care of dad declare dad a danger to himself and others and give fcd the power to make all the decisions and all of that would have happened the 2nd time he ended up in the er …

This might be insensitive but they’re an example of why I say I don’t want to live any longer than I absolutely have to …

My job is interesting. It’s one of those jobs that you have to be able to entertain yourself, as a majority of the time there is not a lot to do except a lot of waiting. When something comes up, though… :astonished:. I work in a shared office, there are 2 or 3 of us working 24/7. At least 1 person is always in the office while the other 1 or 2 may be out in the community assisting those we support.

Sugar in cornbread?!?! What? I have never heard of such a thing. It somehow sounds wrong, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to have to try it now!

Fence assessed (not a repair I can make), downspouts cleared on lower gutters (gutter guy scheduled for January), half an hour of cleaning up yard debris accomplished. Dinner is tomato soup, canned limas with ham slices, and sweet potatoes. We appear to be out of molasses–how did that happen? Using a fig-and-balsamic condiment instead.

I just completed over an hour of work on the Death Pool. Pele went to join the choir invisible, he has become an ex football player, so I had a lot of switching around to do.

that’s easy just get a pack or can of Marie calendars cornbread mix …although its way better in the restaurant as its made from scratch but those are really rare I’m surprised we still have ours ,

It appears we’ve got things in hand. FCD and MIL talked with 4 doctors, including a psychiatrist, who examined FIL. He’s going home under hospice care - probably not till next week because of the holiday, and assuming he lives thru the weekend. Not being morbid here - it’s a very real possibility. He’s not eating, not drinking, often non-responsive, and when he is more or less awake, he’s not all there. The doctors didn’t come right out and say it, but he’s dying. The blow to his head when he fell did more damage to what’s left of his brain.

They need to get a hospital bed delivered to the apartment and meet with the hospice personnel who will be tending FIL. All of FIL’s meds will now be in liquid form, so they have to go to a special pharmacy to have them made up. Meanwhile, he stays in the hospital - the bed likely won’t be delivered before Tuesday.

Tomorrow after we drop MIL off at the hospital, we’ll go over to Daughter’s house and let her know what’s going on and give her a chance to see her grandpa if she wants to - even tho in reality, he’s pretty much gone. We want to give her a heads-up so she can talk to Roxy. Tobias is too young for it to matter.

I’m glad he didn’t die on Christmas, but I kinda hope he doesn’t come out of the hospital - it will be easier on all concerned. One nice thing - MIL said she’s sure he’s getting better care here than he would have gotten in Ocala. FCD said the doctors and staff here have been great. So it should be over soon, I think. I hope.

Speaking of Tobias:

The kid is a problem-solver. He figured out how to get his fruit cup. (click to see the whole photo.) Not much scarier than a smart toddler!

Happy Thorsday!

It was a chilly 26 degrees at the park this morning, I wasn’t dressed warmly enough.
This afternoon was beautiful though.
Barky and Humpy were there, I don’t know how I feel about it.
I told a fib, well, a flat out lie. I didn’t text her and when she asked why I didn’t, I lied and said it was a last-minute decision to go to the park and I didn’t text anybody.
Then Lily mom showed up and said she slept through my text.

I called the vet and they said to call back at 7am tomorrow and set up an appointment then.
Also, said to leave the wound alone. Don’t clean it, don’t touch it, don’t put anything on it. It needs to be exposed to the air.

I’ve had a bat in my attic since I moved in, the evidence being the circle of guano on the attic floor.
I talked with an exterminator about getting rid of the bat. It’s a lot of irk. Bats are protected, so you can’t just ‘eliminate’ them.

The exterminator said from the sound of it, it is one solitary male bat.
One bat is not going to be a hazard in terms of producing enough guano to be dangerous to our health, or cause the ceiling to collapse.
A colony of bats would be both.
So as long as he behaves himself, stays in the attic, and doesn’t bring a bunch of friends home to party, he can stay.
Once in a while, my son goes up and vacuums/sweeps up the guano. It’s dry and crumbly, so not much of a mess to clean up.

Glad everybody has made it safely home.

I think it’s good you have the in-laws up here FCM, otherwise you’d all be bouncing between MD and FL.

I’m tired and hurting.
My son has a horrible cough.
Cerby started limping again today.
Ripple stinks.
Echo and Adam appear to be fine.

Evening all. Did accomplish some things today, set up direct payment for my gas bill (of course, I went to the water department first, luckily they are only a mile apart…) and got the car washed because it was getting pretty messy. Was going to get a battery for my car key fob, but I brought the wrong key (the one I had has 80% charge according to the battery person), so that’s on the table for tomorrow. Also made an appointment for Friday the 13th to get my car it’s 60,000 mile checkup (even if it’s only at 58,000) and even made a list of things I need to do tomorrow, so all in all a fairly productive afternoon (for me). Catching up with my You Tube channels this evening.

Sari, hope everyone starts feeling better, like Echo and Adam.

FCM, glad MIL could talk with the Docs about it. It’s hard to let go but the time may be soon that she’ll have to…

istacyi, that’s an interesting job description…sounds like you’re one of those guys that sits in the bunker ready to launch nuclear missiles if the worst happens…

And heading down I65-S there was a 7 mile backup on I65-N for an accident…some things never change.

swampy, good on ya for helping. I used to have battery cables but don’t anymore, might be something I should acquire.

flyboy, good luck with the cover.

Butters, enjoy the cruise. And you are not a horrible person; just one who has a settled life that gets unsettled by the hordes…

nellie, hope the post-op was a positive.

OK, back to catching up. All y’all take care.

My grandson feels the same way about his cheese. Cheese, any cheese is his cheese.

Agreed. My daughter had to put a lock on the refrigerator door.

Tobias is a darn cute boy, he’d get away with most anything with me.

Mooom, that sounds like a good plan. Does he have a DNR or advance directive, and does his medical team know his preferences?

Home from the trek (6 miles) and appointment. The eye looks good. I wish I could see better out of it. He instilled some drops, and they helped me see a bit better out of the right eye, but not the left, which is the problem child. Hey, I’ll take improvement whenever and wherever I can find it!

While I was in the waiting room, an older couple entered and sat next to me.
Her: I don’t know why we had to have our temperatures checked. We didn’t have to do that last year. [Yes, you did.]
Him: It’e the guvmint. The govmint makes 'em do it.
Her: Well, we should get rid of the government, then, especially THIS government.

Then they talked about how brave his daughter was to quit nursing rather than get vaccinated, and how healthcare has suffered without her.

Her: Del Bigtree says…

Ugh. Del Bigtree. It finally occurred to me these people hadn’t been vaccinated. I quietly moved farther from them.

Her: Guess I scared HER off.
Him: Congratulations! [Both laugh.]

Blech. Such ugly people. By contrast, the various homeless people on my walk home were caring and nice and elbow-bumped me and wished me a happy new year. I’d rather spend all day with them than 5 minutes with that couple.

FCM, SO glad FIL is able to go on hospice and that MIL is on board. I hope his transition to The Great Perhaps is swift and serene. Also, Tobias is sooooo cute! How do you keep from spoiling him rotten?

shady, I understand but hope you’ll be with us for a very long time .

flyboy, in between eye rolls, I’m sure Mrs. LA thanks her lucky stars.

stacy/icy: It’s worth trying Scandinavian cornbread (because it’s sweetish). Even us savory cornbread lovers understand the need to experiment, as long as you immediately come back to the fold.

Oo, good point. I never thought of that.

swampy, you get the Good Samaritan Award. (Is there a bad Samaritan?)

I hope they leave soon. Stay safe!

Yeah, all the directives are in place and FCD has his medical POA. FIL said he didn’t want to be kept on machines and MIL agrees. I’m relieved that things are now in place. The hard part now is the waiting. Plus the guilt in wishing that it was all over. The guilt is strong…
