Honeys, I’m ho-ome! I had such a nice time! I probably gained 8,000 lbs. Son and wife are both great cooks and both are part-Italian, so I never went hungry. My DIL made a special dessert: homemade mac and cheese. At least it looked exactly like mac and cheese, but she made the macaroni (complete with a tiny hole in each end) from white chocolate, the “cheese sauce” was colored ganache, and underneath was a lemon cake (from scratch) with lemon frosting smooshed in. When I was packing today, the goofy-sweet border collie put one of his toys in my suitcase.
Oh, and JtC, I thought of you and hubs because they (pretty much non-drinkers) bought a bottle of mead for me to try. I’d never had it before, and it was DELICIOUS! I’m a convert and will be making a pilgrimage to your house soon. Just kidding. I’d never invite myself anywhere–except to the laundry room to wash clothes, and even then, I send regrets.
I want so much to respond to each post, but holy moly, there are so many!
FCM, an end run around MIL sounds like a good and necessary plan. I know this has been really hard on you and even harder on FCD. Sometimes the best thing you can do for loved ones is not listen to them. I hope FIL can get the in-patient care he needs.
Boo, I’m told RumChata in one’s morning coffee is a thing, and some people pour it on oatmeal. It sounds way too early for me, but then the American colonists drank from morning 'til night and roughly 3 times as much as we do today, so you were merely honoring an American tradition. I salute you!
Baker, warbat sounds yum!
Lily, hooray on the negative test of your lovely wife!
red and swampy, how close are you two, geographically (and any other way?
Oh, and FWIW (.01¢), my vote is corn in cornbread is OK, and the only difference in white and yellow cornmeal is the color. I like Boo’s suggestion of food color for those who would gripe.
