Fresh air and sunshine in the MMP

Bekkers, blow out the eggs, then very carefully color the shells. Bet you have more uses for raw eggs than HB eggs. I mean, other than deviled eggs and egg salad sammiches, then what?
~VOW

It must be Conversations with Cops Day or something, though my experience wasn’t as scary as OW’s. A guy was blocking the sidewalk at an intersection I had to cross. He had a big sign that said something about Jesus and was calling to people that Jesus would protect them from the virus. “No need to fear!” He shoved a tract into this bike-rider’s hand while yelling “No need to fear!” about 6 inches from the guy’s nose. Sign guy tried to give me one, but I believe Jesus protects me via scientists, so I wouldn’t take one. I kept yelling, “Excuse me!” because I had to cross there and didn’t want to get too close to him. He finally moved back about a foot as the Walk signal came on, and I held my breath and dashed past him and into the crosswalk.

I called the cops when I got home–out of concern, not anger. The dispatcher said the guy was in violation of the COVID regulations, and he’d send a squad car. Hopefully they’ll just need to talk to the guy. Wasn’t it just yesterday I was appalled at** CupCake**'s story about the Kansas churches?

**
OW**, how amazing that you happened to look out and saw the guy fleeing! And your kitty is so cute!

Flyboy, I must have missed something. You had to make a deposit because you’re broke???

So Gordie and I ran into the same neighbors on our walk today. That was…awkward. It was 83 yesterday, and tonight it might get below freezing.:dubious: “Weather by Sybil”

And Phoenix is totes adorb.

Post anyways. We’re like the self isolation of the SDMB: Pants optional, martinis at dawn, mere anarchy.

“Covered in the blood of Jesus” Which would be an equally horrifying statement in a Robert Rodriguez movie.

Having been involved in a few, it does make for a less than fun evening.

You can never have too may deviled aigs, or too much TP or whiskey when the COVID zombies come.

Need opinion fast-ish:

Today I shopped for and delivered groceries to a very old lady I an independent care unit attached to a nearby nursing home. Except for one item, I was able to fulfill her shopping list exactly as she asked - rare right now. I sprayed her packages with Lysol, delivered, and we had a good conversation as she stood in the back door and I stood across the garage. And put on our best faces about having this holiday without family.

This lady taught at my high school, and retired before I graduated. So she’s pretty old. (Seriously. Like 98. Maybe older.) Later in the day, I found the item missing from her list. It wasn’t expensive, so I bought it.

I intend to deliver it to her in the morning. It’s a dollar or so, and not out of my way. Would it be weird if I had the girls make cards for her? Or if I put bows in the girls’ hair, buy an Easter corsage, and wave and blow kisses across the lawn? I am socially awkward in the best circumstance, and right now isn’t best.

I don’t know about the corsage, but that’s just because I don’t know how you’d spray it with Lysol and have it survive. But I’m sure she’d love getting homemade cards from your girls and social distancing greetings from them. What a great idea! You’re obviously a very kind person.

My sister-in-law shared something on Facebook which said that children under 2 should not wear masks. Basically their lungs are not strong enough to breathe through a mask.

While out walking we saw a family group wearing masks, except the baby. At the grocery store I saw only one woman wearing a mask. The cashiers were wearing gloves, but no masks.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 41 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 78 and N.O.S. for the day. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy. We shall see. No big items on today’s agenda. OYKW is makin’ a cheesecake for our Easter feast. We debated this as it’s a big Noo Yawk style cheesecake, the kind one only eats a little slice of at a time, but decided we could manage somehow to eat it up over the next few days. Any need to feed today will be via forage as there are some leftovers in da fridge plus sammich makin’s. I shall bake a small spiral cut ham and we’ll have green beans, squish casserole, scalloped N.O.T., and rolls to feast upon tomorrow. Good thing we like leftovers. This evenin’ we shall attend a virtual Vigil of Easter offered by the Diocese.

SWMBO and Nellie I say y’all had a month’s worth of excitatement in a day!

Peaches I think that is a great idea! I would imagine if the corsage is wrapped in cellophane (like what one sees in a grocery sto’) it should be OK. The idea of homemade Easter cards is fantastic and I’m sure will make the lady smile.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day. Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Slept with Mel again last night - it was wonderful! Then I awoke to 37° outside - yoiks!! As long as it doesn’t get any colder, my spider plants should be OK. Stoopit weather.

Today is clean-the-critter-fountain-day. If the sun comes out later, I’ll go out front and gather all the sticks on the lawn so we can mow. Heck, I might even mow the ditch (ick) tho that will require a trip to get the gas cans filled.

I think it’ll be inventory-the-fridge-day also. I need to see if there are any science experiments that got shoved to the back, and I don’t know how old the yogurt and cottage cheese may be. Plus I think the skim milk may have turned - we haven’t been using very much since **FCD **hasn’t been eating cereal.

You can freeze milk, right? So I could pour our half a gallon and freeze it till we drink the over half? I hate to just buy half a gallon - it’s cheaper for the full gallon. Except when you pour half of it out.

It’s so hard being me, dammit!

Happy Saturday!!

nelliebly, no need to be appalled. Most houses of worship, here in town, have livestreaming services, or none at all. I even saw the Westboro Baptist Church folks picketing, staying distanced from each other. There is one church I know of, quite a good sized one, that is scheduling nine person services, with the clergy as a tenth. This keeps them in line with the governor’s executive order about small meetings, and they take stringent precautions for keeping even those few spaced out. With two clergy they can hold two services in different parts of the building. Tomorrow, Easter, the pastors will have a total of nineteen services, for 171 people. I hope they don’t get too tired.

The rent check came in.

Morning all. Today will be mowing day, but it’s only 49F outside now, so I’ll wait until it warms up some (supposed to reach 70F). Need to get gas for both car and mower which I’ll do in a bit, but nothing else planned.

Peaches, it’s hard to predict another person’s reaction, but I think she’ll be thrilled to get cards from your girls; can’t say about the bows and waves. BTW, you are good people, you know that, don’t you?

nellie, if I may be crude, assholes gonna asshole… I think you did the right thing, hopefully he was smart enough to take the cops advice. Ya did good.

OK, need to forage for sustenance and make myself presentable. All y’all take care.

Half my chores are now done - I cleaned the critter fountain. Once the temp tops 50, I’ll fill our gas cans, then start de-sticking the front yard. Haven’t decided yet about ditch mowing. (Who am I kidding - I HATE to mow the ditch, but I’ll do it.)

**FCD **wanted pancakes for breakfast, and I actually made some decent ones, with extras in the freezer. I don’t know why I have such troubles with pancakes - it’s not rocket surgery! But maybe I’ve finally figured it out.

I think I’ll push around the vacuum cleaner while waiting for it to warm up outside.

Why can’t your daughter or son-in-law handle the mowing? (I understand why FCD shouldn’t be, with his back troubles.)

Happy Saturday.

FCgrandMom- are you guys putting a mask on Roxy? I find this fascinating. I havn’t been anywhere so I’m not seeing all the changes people are making to move around in the New World order: pandemic.
~VOW- I will pickle the boiled eggs after the kids see them all colored in their baskets. They can hide and hunt plastic eggs. 'Cause Nana Beck swipes the real eggs and peels them. :D.

Nellie-I despise street corner crazies. I must have a sign over my head that says ‘sucker’ because I ALWAYS attract the crazies wherever I go.

Stay safe out the streets you guys. And report here your odd experiences. I live vicariously through you.

b. stuck at home for the duration.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, load of towels and sheets in the wash, puppy crate cleaned and fixing to do KP. Nothing exciting planned for the day, so I’ll play in the studio and read.

**Nettie **- SIL has allergies to cut grass, among other things. And daughter does a lousy job of mowing. It’s not a difficult chore, and it doesn’t take all that long. I just don’t like doing it.

**Beck **- Roxy hasn’t left home in several week, so we don’t mask her. She’s not even going to see her other grandmother because of some extended family issues - specifically a stepson who is unreliable and his kids who may or may not have been exposed. Daughter and SIL are very protective of their spawn.

Just finished vacuuming - man, those 2 cats sure shed a lot!! I suspect after we go to bed, they wander around rolling on the carpet and shaking a lot. Evil kittehs!!

FCM, same here. DIL and Mid-daughters children have been at the 2 houses, back and forth. No where else. Mainly because of me. I want them around close. So they have to stay un-exposed.

Of us all DIL is the only one facing the public looking for all our needs. But she’s very careful.

Even the lil’wrekker is staying home. She was /is a social butterfly. This has been hard on her. Her and her friends talk and text a bunch. And her BF is here and that helps.

We’re doing okay.

Egg dying commences about 2pm. Should be fun.

Random thoughts while out foraging for breakfast:

Should have invested in Plexiglass. It’s amazing the McGivered shields that have sprung up in gas stations and the like. 1X2 wood supports too.

While I was waiting at IckDonalds for the staff to bring my bag 0’breakfast out, a black Silverado pulled in two spaces over, with loud rap playing, and the passenger hops out, wearing a bandana over his face, and starts either dancing to the ‘music’, or having a Gran Mal seizure. I was betting on the latter. Of course, even with the window up, the volume was so loud my fillings were rattling. I was torn between blasting them with Gregorian Chants, or ABBA’s greatest hits…

Good morning, everyone! It’s 45 degrees and cloudy out there. The forecast is sunshine, and of course, it IS shining…above the thick clouds.

I dreamed last night a dog adopted me, a sweet little black pup with a white bib. I’m not in the market for a pet, but in the dream, I had no choice. He sure was cute.

I’m trying to convince myself to go for a long walk. Joint pain from stupid lupus is back, but I don’t want to give in to it.

My Easter Sunday is going to be quiet. I’ll attend virtual Mass and maybe go for a walk. Will also talk with kids. I decided to bake bread tomorrow, and I got a little steak for my dinner. Usually Easter means lasagna and Italian cookies, but I don’t have the heart to make a traditional meal without my kids to feed it to. I’ll focus on the spiritual joys and not the deprivations.

FCM, I love mowing lawns and miss it, so I’d happily mow for you. It’s so satisfying! I’ve always done OK with pancakes, but the last time I made them, I really had trouble. I don’t know why.

Beck, have fun coloring eggs with the grands! Confession: I’ve never had pickled eggs. I’ve never even SEEN pickled eggs except long ago in a tavern.

MetalMouse, thanks much for the reassurance. If it weren’t for this virus crisis, I wouldn’t have been upset. In normal times, we get a lot of street corner sign-holders, everything from homeless people to political activists to clearance sale arrow-twirlers. My favorite was just before the 2016 election, when some guy was holding a sign saying “Moe for President” with Moe Howard’s scowling face.

swampy, that Easter dinner sounds yum, especially the cheesecake!

Oh, go for it. That’s one of the tiny blessings of all this, I think- since we can take as a given that everyone is sad, stressed, and lonely, small acts of kindness have lost a lot of their awkwardness. Every little bit of sunshine you can put into the world, do it. It will help you and the girls just as much as it will help her.

Beck is pickling eggs easy? I LOVE pickled eggs. We’re not dying them (the kid is with her dad for Easter), but I did just snag a dozen in my grocery order yesterday. I usually have them over easy or soft-boiled on toast. Hard boiled is good, but not usually my number one preference. I could go for pickled, though. And I bet my roommate would, as well. I know she loves both pickles and eggs.
