Fresh air and sunshine in the MMP

Yard work done! I picked up sticks, broke up an evergreen tree that had fallen over and was rotting away - it’s now a pile of branches, etc, lying in the woods. Then I got out the mower and drove it over the front lawn. There wasn’t any grass to speak of, but it chopped up the remaining twigs and decapitated some of the tall weeds that poked up. A good hour’s work!

Now I’m having leftover pot roast and thinking about settling down to read for a while.

Happy Saturday!

The sun is shining, it’s not windy, and up to 54 degrees.
It was cold enough this morning that I pulled out the long underwear.
Lily came by for a playdate, so the pups are a little better behaved today.

My sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, and cough are now just a runny nose and cough.

I’ve got two loads of laundry done.

I say go for it Peaches.

Got an email from the grocery chain. They have decided to pursue other applicants who more closely fitted the position. Yeah, sure. Probably my age. I said I could be available any time, weekends, holidays, you name it. Clean record, healthy, what more does a stocker require?

Do you have experience in that sort of retail? They probably want someone they don’t have to spend a lot of time training.

I was gonna say that’s enough, but them I remembered a wonderful thing called scotch eggs.

I used to have a recording of Songs of the Humpback Whales for just such an occasion. Although I did serenade one neighbor with Bach on the Pedal harpsichord (E. Power Biggs) one time.

Yesterday I rebuilt the bottom two steps on the front porch. Today I’m a little sore. It took me most of the day 'cause the existing bits were too rotted to use for patterns and weren’t what you’d call well designed to begin with, so I had to refigger the stringers, which is something I’ve always had trouble with. But it’s done. I hope.

Sorry Baker. Something else better will come along.

I talked hubs into frying the chicken. I love fired chicken but we hardly ever cook it as it is so messy and time consuming.

I slept most of the day so far. I dont know why I can’t get enough sleep here lately.

Happy weekend everyone.

2 ways to get pickled hard boiled eggs:
Boil eggs in salted water til really hard boiled.
#1
If you have pickle juice from you favorite dill or kosher dill pickle just put eggs in a clean jar and pour the pickle juice over peeled eggs. Put the jar in the back of the fridge for a week before eating.

#2
Make your own pickle. Vinegar, dill weed, salt, garlic cloves and white onion in rings. Heat thru and pour over peeled/boiled eggs.
Wait a week or two before eating.

Careful, they are addictive.

(There’s many pickle juice recipes online)

ETA, quail eggs are especially good pickled.

Afternoon all. Car and gas can are filled ($1.86/gal for mid-grade 89) and lawn has had it’s first mowing of the season (it still looks terrible and most of the clippings are brown and dusty, but that’s normal). Am now considering tomorrow’s eats, thinking about meatloaf from Metro Diner, but I rather have different sides and their on-line system won’t let me sub. May end up at Krispy Kreme, because donuts are never wrong.

Baker, sorry about the bad news. They might have had somebody in mind and advertising/contacting you was just a shield…something will come along.

To all the rest, my best wishes for a most special Easter (because it’s going to be one we’re going to remember for awhile , I think).

Yeah, Baker. {{{{Hugs}}}}.
Here’s to better times.

Baker, in my experience applying for that sort of job, the problem is probably that you’re overqualified; they want someone who considers stocking shelves to be a good job, because they’re less likely to find something better and require replacement in the near future, at least in theory. Larger chains are especially bad for that sort of nonsense, you can get auto-rejected for showing any sign of initiative. You’ll find something better.

Baker, they might consider that you’ve been in the restuarant business a long time and that you’ll go back after they reopen them.

{{{Baker}}} I’m really hoping something that is a better fit opens for you soon.

Why do I remember the pickled eggs I saw that one time as being in a red liquid? Do they use beet juice red cabbage juice or something? And does it affect the flavor, or is it just for color?

I went for a long walk, but–Hope this isn’t TMI–I really had to pee, and with everything shut down, there’s no place to go. Getting home took a lot of determination.

My son set up a zoom session for tomorrow so he, his sister, and their spouses and I can all talk. Next best thing to them being here!

Boo to whomever was silly enough to reject cupcakes! The next application recipient won’t be so dumb, I’m sure! Crossing appendages for you.

Regarding my social awkwardness, I compromised with myself, for reasons. I left a basket with cards from the girls, an Easter lily, and the missing baking powder. Didn’t take the small girls, because I thought maybe Mrs. Y had been planning to bake comfort food for herself for a lonely holiday, so I didn’t want her to wait on an ingredient. And the lily is a potted plant, with foil wrapped around the pot, which I could sanitize.

I did the math. Mrs. Y retired in 1985. She’s pretty damned old, and deserves to know that someone is thinking about her on a lonely holiday.

Supper was assorted miscellaneous again. Dishes are done and the dishwasher is just about done, too. I pulled out some chicken for tomorrow - it’s in a bag with teriyaki marinade. I’ll figure out what to do with it tomorrow.

Now it’s time to assume the position and get back to my semi-stupid murder mystery. I finished the second in the series - it was almost as dumb as the first. Fortunately, this is the last one. Then I think I’ll pull out an actual hardback book that I bought a couple of months ago. Reading old school!

Thanks for all the good wishes folks. It feels bad to be turned down for a simple job, but I have only a year or two to go now.

I guess “my particular set of skills” was not needed.

What is the series FCM?

nellie, the pink pickled eggs that you’re curious about have been pickled in pickled beet juice. My mom used to pickle beets, can them and when the beets were gone, pour the juice over hard boiled eggs.

dot, there are many ways to pickle eggs, but they all involve a vinegar solution of some sort. If you have a jar of pickles, jardinara, kimchi or even kraut that you’ve drained the solids out, you can use the juice to pickle eggs.

baker, I’m with nut about your overqualification. That sometimes happens to us as we gain experience in any given field.

I began working up some scraps in the studio today and fixed a most excellent pot of mushroom stew for supper. Hit the spot with a corn muffing and a couple of pieces of mozzarella.

I’ll surf some more and go back to working up scraps.

Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

We went out early and picked up groceries and necessities. At home we started the spring cleaning of the garage. It is a lovely day and I grilled hamburgers on the Weber.

My daughters went to game night at a friends house. An hour or so into it the police showed up. They had a report that the house was in violation of the ten person rule. YD pointed out that there were seven people on the deck drinking wine and playing Cards Against Humanity. The police apologized and left.

Baker I am sorry you were passed over for the job.

Got back from my 2.1 mile walk, and it was getting on five o’clock. I whipped up an Alfredo sauce with large shrimps and spinach, and some thin spaghetti. I had some red wine with it. (Mrs. L.A. had white.)

So I ended up calling Animal Control, the hag in the next building was letting her dog loose, and it came at me and Gordie.

Sorry, Baker. Too bad you’re not in Colorado. I’m sure you could get a job making “special” desserts.

I hope that Gordie wasn’t too scared doggio. Unsupervised dogs can be dangerous to both other dogs and humans.
