Im sorry if I have lied about my faith at all Guinastasia if you could please show me where I have done so I would be very grateful.
Not you-I mean people like Jersey and His. They’re always claiming to be “telling what the Bible says” and standing up for their beliefs-but when they do so, they also libel other religions. Look at the filth they spread about Catholicism and Mormonism, for starters.
…hmm Guinastasia might I ask what is your spiritual state, Christian, athiest, other. Thanks
Lapsed Catholic, unofficial Unitarian-Universalist, by beliefs.
Unitarian-Universalist -interesting, *you see Nomadic_One go toout dictionary.com …reads…reads…ahh interesting. Thanks for the input.
So, Nomadic_One- are Polycarp and Guinastasia real Christians? Have they genuinely accepted Christ into their hearts, or are they just shamming?
(Hint: they’re both evolutionists.)
BTW, do you obey the ten commandments as outlined in Exodus? Do you keep the feast of the unleavened bread?
Here’s hint #2: to the best of my knowledge, they don’t speak in tongues.
So, Nomadic_One, have they really received the Holy Ghost? If not, why not?
The religious faith of JerseyDiamond’s and His4Ever’s detractors has exactly zero to do with the veracity of the statments of those two liars.
Nomadic-One, there is a difference between testifying to one’s own beliefs and misrepresenting the beliefs of others.
Nomadic_One, Polycarp and I are usually pretty similar in belief, so here’s my response to your question
I believe in and acknowledge the truth of the 10 commandments, although for practical purposes I usually prefer a more modern version than the KJV. (The KJV still has the best sounding language, though!) However, I am also very much aware that the Pharisees asked Jesus what the most important commandment was, and my guide to when I have sinned is rooted in his response. I’ve already quoted that once in this thread, and I do it habitually, so I don’t think I need to repeat it here. You see, I can run through the 10 commandments, and, with the possble exception of coveting something which belongs to my neighbor or keeping holy the Sabbath day. Going by the 1- commandments alone, it would be easy enough for me to say to myself “OK, I haven’t sinned this week” during the confession of sins which is part of my church’s Eucharist. The thing is, if I did that, I would be breaking one of the 10 commandments because I would be bearing false witness. I frequently do not love my neighbor as myself, and I have committed the sin of not doing so in this very thread. I also do not love God with my whole heart 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Polycarp and I are both Episcopalians. The Episcopal Church has two major forms of Eucharist, the service at which people eat and drink the body and blood of Christ. The Eucharist contains and requires a confession of sin before coming to the Lord’s Table. It’s my understanding that we are expected to be genuinely thinking about and repenting our sins during it. Each form of Eucharist has a form of confession, although only one points out specific sins. It starts as follows:
Out of curiousity, why did you ask about the 10 commandments?
Does that help at all?
By the way, I have a sig, but never use it. On the other hand, it’s not that difficult to stick “CJ” after a post. To use the quote function, type [ quote] and [ /quote] before and after you’ve typed something, dropping the spaces. If I’m quoting several things, I’ll usually pull up Microsoft’s Notepad or some other text editor and copy and paste them onto it until I’m ready to use them. I’ve also been known to do that to posts which I think will get eaten.
Smermy, thanks for the explanation. I must admit, your earlier post left me completely confused. Unfortunately, I do know people who have been hurt by attitudes like His4Ever’s in that they dislike and distrust Christians and Christianity. My faith is a source of great comfort and strength to me, and it’s helped both my wallet and my soul when things have gotten rough. For people to be afraid to make use of such great resources because of the way they have been treated by Christians, in my opinion, is a shame. I think even His4Ever would agree that driving people away from Christianity is a sin. The thing is, I don’t think she realizes she’s doing it.
By the way, Ben, I’ll have you know that I full well do speak in tongues, and I did so at Pentecost. To be precise, I speak in English, Japanese, German, and, recently, French, Spanish, and Italian, albeit haltingly. However, as a translator, I do have a rather different appreciation of Pentecost. Or was God trying to put translators out of business on that day?
CJ
Correct. The former is living the Gospel and the latter is violating the commandment against bearing false witness.
The reason I mention though that I was raised Catholic is because I can tell His4ever from a point of knowledge-that she doesn’t know jackshit about it.
Ah, c’mon, Guin. H4E doesn’t know jackshit about anything. She’s far and away the most ignorant person to disgrace this board. The most entertaining thing about her is the way she applies the inerrant word of God to everyone else but she equivocates when it applies to her immoral lifestyle. Of course, I’m only saying that her lifestyle’s immoral by the literal reading of the Old Testament. But, hey, that’s what she wants for everyone. Everyone else but her that is.
Monty, you know thats not Christ-like of
you , either.
Nomadic One, since Siege has already responded with a good summary of Episcopalian beliefs, I will address only what she has not. In reading this, bear in mind what she said, with which I completely agree.
First, as Christians, we are free from the Law. The Ten Commandments, as divine legislation which must be adhered to, have no more claim on us than the demand for circumcision or to avoid cotton/linen blend fabrics. But we are not free to sin, but to live morally upright lives characterized by the Law of Love, as detailed in Jesus’s Summary of the Law – the Two Great or Royal Commandments. I fall short of keeping these totally and completely on a daily basis, but keep on trying to, with God as my help – the Holy Spirit guiding and strengthening me to continue my efforts to live up to them as ideals towards which I must strive.
The OP of this thread outlines many of the Scriptures that I take as normative in trying to live my life as I believe God wants. The Ten Commandments serve as excellent guides to living out my own morality according to that rule. They are not grounds on which I can judge the morality of another – nothing is, by God’s own command.
The Baptismal Covenant, which we Episcopalians vow about five times a year, serves as a good summary of my moral code. You’ll probably recognize the first part as a dialogue version of the Apostles’ Creed; but note particularly the five questions at the end. I take them very seriously, and, while I recognize that I fall far short of keeping them as they ought to be kept, they stand for what I try to do and be. (From our discussion in that thread, you apparently see this as rote repetition – but when I recite it, I mean what I say.)
You’re right, vanilla; however, I refuse to let Jersey’s crap go by like it’s the smell of April flowers, when it is in reality the stench of the stable floor.
She & His4Ever have every opportunity to cease & desist with their lies. But they’d rather pretend to be martyrs for the Truth. Here’s a hint for those two: y’all aren’t telling the Truth; therefore, you’re martyrs for The Other Stuff.
Crap? Lies? Well, keep telling yourself that. As I’m sure Jersey is, I’m praying for you.

Don’t bother. Either I’m right and it’s unnecessary, or you’re right, and you’re going to Heaven, in which case I’d rather be in Hell.
His4Ever: The crap you spout on this board has been proven to you, over and over and over again, by both Catholics and non-Catholics, by both deists and nondeists, by both Mormons and non-Mormons, to be false. You have continued to spout that crap. Therefore they are lies and they are known to you to be lies.
His , you and I believe that Joseph Smith was a false prophet.
The Mormons believe otherwise.
its best to just disagree, neither side is going to prove this to the other.
Let God take care of it
