Gosh, they missed me - MMP

IT’S FRIIIIIIDAAAAAAAAY!

And not a moment too soon. I know it’s been a short week for us Canucks but I still feel like I’ve put in a full week and then some. I needs me some respite, STAT.

It’s been bloody hot round here, too. Not quite depths-of-summer-hot, but definitely blast-the-AC-hot. Except they won’t be turning our AC on in my building for another 2-3 weeks, so I have fans blasting. Bastages.

'Least I have AC at work.

Y’know what I hate? Bank machines. Or rather, when bank machines run out of money. I had to go to the bank machine after midnight because my paycheque gets direct-deposited then. Ordinarily, not a problem. Except when I go to my bank’s bank machine – there is only one, and it’s the only one from my bank for miles around – and it’s “temporarily out of service.” But I could just go to another bank’s machine, right? Ha! No. Because although my bank reflects my current and correct balance, the bank networks don’t get the memo until after 4:00am, so to them, I still only had $0.60 in my account. So I ended up having to go back home, E-Mail transfer some money to the wife’s account (which takes about 30 minutes to filter through) and then take out the money from the wife’s account with her bank card. Which, all told, cost $4.50 (third party ATM fee + her bank’s ATM fee + E-Mail Money Transfer fee) where it would normally cost me nothing (my branch = no ATM fee + unlimited banking plan)

Stoopit machines.

But at least it’s Friday – usually our least busy day, too – and it’s a payday! To celebrate that I bought me a pound of the good cherries (which are down to $4.99/lb), which I am currently munching on. Mmmmmm.

BusDude - Well, yesterday wasn’t quite a Reason To Get Plastered Day, but it came close. I’m still dealing with some of the problems created yesterday, though they’ve all mostly been sorted now. TGIF indeed.

Mmkay, hopefully I’ll be able to make more contributions today instead of doing something silly like working.

(Lissla in the corner, waiting patiently to throw up so she can get on with her chores)
It’s too hot. I object to summer. It’s still supposed to be spring here.
Here’s hoping the Haze managed to get up before nine, poor thing.

Rebo thanks for asking. I’m not hurting financially. Being as I am a miser of sorts by nature, I have a nice bit put away and I do have some money comin’ in on the side for some consulting work. Plus mowin’ friend’s lawns every couple weeks which I’ve been doin’ for several years anyways since they’re too lazy and are willin’ to cough up nice bucks to have somebody to do it. It used to be considered my mad throwaway money but now is considered livin’ money but still that’s jake. So, in short, the finances are still pretty ok. I just need a job cause I’ll go nuts without one. Plus, well, there’s the whole knowin’ a steady income is comin’ in thing… Contrary to what a certain old broad who shall remain nameless :stuck_out_tongue: thinks, I am not turnin’ into a bum. Then again, winnin’ the lottery would be nice. Course that would require me actually rememberin’ to play the lottery, so I guess that won’t happen.

On to other things… 'Stang is all fixed up. Took ‘em all of thirty minutes to do it. The job is all applied for and I am home sweet home. Matter of fact I have declared myself officially “off” until Tuesday morning, meaning I ain’t doin’ no job search today or Monday.

While I was out, I went by the seafood market just for. They had some nice reasonably priced shrimp! So, I decided to splurge a little and bought two pounds of really nice medium sized shrimp. So tonight’s supper shall be steak and shrimp, sallit, baked N.O.T. and garlic bread. Ol’ y’all know who does not know about the shrimp so it will be a surprise. He’s a shrimp junkie so I shall expect appropriate “appreciation” to be shown.

MBG, Taters and all you others havin’ work woes just remember you have a long weekend, so relax and enjoy it. I’ll raise a beerverage or two on y’alls behalf even.

Happy Friday, all! And Long Weekend Friday, to boot. Of course, for me it’s probably not…and for Papa Tigs it’s definitely not, since his successor in his former contractor job is in charge of a 40-hour downtime to do some upgrades to the system, so he’ll have to go in for at least a while to make sure everything’s jake. That is, however, MUCH better than when he used to be in charge of said 40-hour downtimes. Especially when they turn into 72-hour downtimes and everyone’s screaming at him and he hasn’t slept in two days and so on and so forth. Now all he has to do is go in for an hour or two Saturday, say, “Keep up the good work,” and depart, leaving his poor successor to the Weekend O’ Headaches.

Other than that, I dunno what we got planned. We haven’t gotten that far yet. Except I do have some work that needs to be in on Tuesday. Of course. Stoopit clients want their transcripts when they get back from a long weekend, not thinking about the fact that us poor peons have to slave away the whole time to get their work done. :frowning: (Yeah, I whine and moan – but I still wouldn’t do anything else except perhaps be a Lady of Leisure!)

Sorry about the temporary setback, TPlayer. I do have faith, however, that it’s only temporary. You are destined to be a wonderful daddy, and don’t you forget it!

Okay, Kai, your puking tale reminded me of the time my dear baby son urped up some purple grape juice while sitting in his carseat. I didn’t realize that some had gotten under the carseat, and it was really fun the next day to try to get the stain out. Of course, I also remember him sitting there with that big happy toddler smile with purple grape juice decorating his clothing. He felt MUCH better!

Pretty house, M&Ms! And pretty dresses, too! I prefer the beaded boobs one, but they’re all lovely so whatever you love mostest is clearly the bestest because you’ll feel SOOOO beautiful in it, and that’s what counts!

I’m worrying about you too, Swampy, being jobless. And you too, SCL. You all get some employment post haste, you hear me? Cause it’s not fair to make your friends worry about you!

I guess I should go do something constructive, like drink more coffee and think about working some more. Thus far today that’s the only thing I’ve been motivated to do. Oh, and surf the internet and do a bit of knitting besides. I promise that sometime soon I’ll take photos of all the stuff I’ve been knitting lately! I’m nearly done with a big bag that I need to felt, and I never did post a photo of the finished basketweave scarf for Papa Tigs or the Lady Eleanor stole, and I’ve got a couple other things going now that I need to photograph as well. I’m starting a really cute – and easy! – scarf pattern that I figure I’ll make in several colors to start my “Joining FCM at the Craft Show” stash out right. Oh, and I also just finished a pretty diagonal knit afghan made from ribbon for my MIL for next Christmas, and I’ve got another pile o’ ribbon to make one for my mom, too. I’ve also got a fuzzy entrelac shawl nearly completed, probably for me, and a whole bunch of other patterns I want to dive into. So we shall see!

ETA: In fact, how about I volunteer for the MMP a week from Monday? (That would be June 4, for you calendar-challenged.) Then I can include a bunch of photos and talk about all that pretty knitting stuff. Whoever’s in charge of deciding, let me know!

Mom’s long weekend started today since she took a day off, figuring she might as well, since if you don’t use your vacation days where she works, they go bye-bye. So, since she won’t let me drive her car and I still don’t have one, one of my cousins brought me to work in his shiny fancy new truck. It was a long way down from that seat.

Yay for Friday! Yay for long Weekend!! Yay for getting out of work at 3:00 pm!!!

tplay, you and wife are in my thoughts.

What’s on for the weekend? Take POL cat to the vet, see Pirates III, maybe take pups to the dog park.

Oh, and tonite I get to inspect the boy child’s second puppy dog. One was not enough.

Other Quasi-Daughter and her husband are coming over tonight. I will make them do housework. This is my nefarious plan.

Off to the laundromat in a few minutes.

Good morning everyone.

Yay for long weekends! Four days of fun, sun, and lounging.

Actually, it won’t all be lounging. I have errands to run, food to buy, yardwork that needs doing, etc.

I’m up and waiting for the coffee to finish. Once it’s finished I can get properly motivated. My plans are to be out of here NLT noon for the shopping and stuff.

That gives me three plus hours to lounge, drink coffee, and get cleaned up. That should be doable.

I think I’ll cruise the Dope a bit for now.

WOOF, WOOF WOOF, WOOF WOOF
Who let the Mods in?
WOOF, WOOF WOOF, WOOF WOOF

I managed to stumble into the shower round 8am and got to the information session just a few minutes late. Damn, that school is in a sketchy area (65th and University, for those of you who know the neighborhood). So basically it’s a charter school that’s just started and it’s an effort (supported by the university) to get these kids to college. Apparently the local high school sends something like 3% of its graduates to institutions of higher education. This is just mind-boggling to me - in Seoul, out of a class of 500-700 students, MAYBE 20-30 of them will not go to college. (So that’s like, what, 6% of the students at most?) The state of education in this area is depressing. Anyway, they’re looking for tutors/mentors for the high school students. I don’t know how much I can commit to this, though - I’m planning to move up north this fall, and commuting to Hyde Park without a car presents a problem. We’ll see.

Li-Li, I hope your morning sickness goes away soon! My mom says she never had morning sickness, so I’m crossing my fingers in the hopes that when my time comes, I’ll have inherited that particular gene of hers.

Ok, BioTigs has graciously stepped foward (that little flair step at the end was to die for!) to be our hostess with the mostess for the week of June 4th.

All those in favor say “AYE”.

AYE!!!

All those opposed… oh like we care!

::CRICKETS::

The “AYES” have it. BioTigs shall regale us with tales of yarn and stuff on Monday, June 4th.
For those of you who have not been payin’ attention, and you know who you are, Rebo is preparing us a lovely tale of neutering for this Monday.

Hmmm, everybody must be starting off their long weekends.

I have managed to take a shower and do a little fussing around the house. I’m getting ready to dry and flat iron my hair and put my face on. I’m seriously thinking of getting my first ever pedicure. I’ve never gone out to get one before.

After that, I’ll pick up some groceries. I talked to Mr. Taters just a few minutes ago. He didn’t realize that I’d taken the day off. I told him of my plans for the day and he suggested I get a flat iron steak or some ribeyes to throw on the grill tonight. That sounds tasty, actually, so I guess I’ll do it.

I called the school this morning to verify that they knew in fact that my daughter was taking her AP exams and not skipping. The attendance office told me they got the list of students too late to stop the recording from out, but not to worry, that Kirsten’s “absence” was considered excused. Hmmm, she wasn’t absent, she was there; but whatever.

The weather is very nice today. I should be out doing some yard work, but the peace and quiet here is so nice, so I’m just enjoying it.

I am still at work…yay!

I go pick up my house keys in about an hour

Agreed. I have a screen shot of Wil and Vivian (at the park, talking to each other through the chainlink fence) that in my wallpaper rotation.

Well, I’m battling Mandy the Martian these last few days here at Technical Thingies. She’s been phasering a bunch of QA forms at me for problems with equipment for a customer. I told her that these are problems that she should have cought weeks ago, in her duties during the QA review of the work packages before the stuff ever leaves the shop. Funny thing about this whole “fight”, is that she is so bogged down with just this one instance, she’ll never see the half-dozen other deficiency reports I’ve just sent to her until she’s past her mandated response date. The girl cannot multi-task for s**t, while it’s second nature to me. I love this game!

Hey, guess who just sent me an email?

Corporate internal warfare. Not for the meek or unarmed.

Sorry. Have been too busy puking to post. This is not going well today, but I think I’m okay to eat something now.

Ah, the Afternoon Dog Chorus just started up.

Damn, Li-li, I was really hoping that things were improving for you. I’ll keep you in my thoughts.

I’m off to dry my hair now.

Damn, Mandy scores a hit. I’m missing some documentation on the deficiency that I have submitted in the past under similar circumstances.

The Force is strong in this one. I may have underestimated the enemy.

LiLi I’m sorry you feel so bad. Really. So have other QD and husband arrived yet to do chores and pamper you? If they give you any grief at all just let 'em know that the cool kids said it’s their job. That should settle any problems they have with it. We have spoken.

MMMMMM’s YAY!!! Bein’ a homeowner is really jake and a big headache at the same time. Still, it feels so good to be workin’ towards sump’n that will be yours. BTW, I vote for the sparkly boobs wedding dress.

Taters get ribeyes. I’m a big fan of ribeyes, so you can eat a ribeye and think about me at the same time. What could possibly be better?

Sean so you and the Martian are fighting. Be nice. She can’t help it, bless her heart.

Ok, I made an executive decision about supper tonight. Instead of baked N.O.T. we’re havin’ Company Smashed N.O.T.. I just got a gnawin’ and cravin’ for some.

Ok, off to steam shrimps so’s I can chill 'em up. Then to start the steaks. The Company Smashed N.O.T. are ready to put in the oven to get all cheesy goodness melty. And… it’s beerverage time for da Bear!

The past few days have been better, really. And right now I’m eating my third slice of cinnamon raisin toast. Thank you all for your concern- it’s hard to try to be cheerful when I have to spend at least half the day throwing up and lying down, feeling dizzy. I hate feeling useless.

OQD and husband should arrive in about an hour, and we’ll discuss dinner and chores.

Home from work, tired sore, and dirty. I had back to back shifts where I was horribly short handed. On a light
er side, when I took Maggie for a stroll on the grounds, we saw the neighbor’s new Pom. Maggie was stalking it, and being stalked by the other neighbor’s Siamese. It was sort of like “Mild Kingdom”.

Tplay I keep you in my prayers.

SCL, good luck on the job hunt. Glad to see you are keeping your priorities straight.

AAAAUUUGGGHHH! MOD IN THE THREAD! ::covers virtual nekkidness::

MMMMMM, neat dress. Seems like most of the good ones are married or nuns.

MBG, I’ve had two of those days in a row, and the next two will likely be the same. Long weekend my @^^&*(##!!!

:: points and laughs at the sweaty Canucks ::

Sounds like the weekends I used to have. Hope it keeps improving.
