Morning all. A brisk 54F here today as I watch the election results slowly trickle in. Should mow my lawn again, will wait until we get closer to the predicted 70F high temperature.
And that’s about it outside of the paper’s Sudoku’s and Word Jumbles. All y’all take care.
Not gonna look at the news. Nope, not gonna do it. Gonna binge watch Netflix NCIS and read library books instead. Eating and a mug of coffee will occur and my personal challenge for the day, beside not screaming in bug-eyed terror, is to not. forget to pick-up the teenager from middle school. It’s possible my housemate will deign to cut my hair on the front porch, I certainly hope so, my bangs are so long and hanging in front of my eyes that I feel like a sniper camouflaged in a bank of bushes. “The day is long and full of terrors”.
During the election coverage last night my cable and internet went out. I called tech support and they were able to reboot. I watched the election for a short time and went to bed. This morning the internet was back down and all of the TV sets will only work on the last channel that was being watched. Tech support can no longer connect to my devices. As far as they can tell they no longer exist. They sent a text telling us they would send a tech this afternoon. I may be out of contact for a bit
Same same except it was 3am. Drank hard liquor for the first time in months last night. Didn’t help. But it is good to know that I still don’t get hangovers. Teaching from home today so no need to get too dressed. Sweatpants and slippers will do until I head out this evening to support local businesses. They swear it will rain this weekend. We’ll see,
We now have wills and both financial and health powers of attorney. FCD has taken deelivery of his car and is going out to a “meeting.” I want lunch. Time to forage.
Once again we had to scramble to deal with Green section’s screw ups. but I was still there when the trucks pulled out, which was a ballet. If a ballet was preformed by a bunch of drunken 3 legged hippopotamuses. I am watching the election coverage. But I’m a political juniie at heart.
Wifey asked me last night if I was depressed. I told her no, I was furious.
But I lied. I was depressed, and furious, and ashamed to be an American.
This was the dems’ election to win or lose and they blew it.
Again.
If they can’t even manage to beat the most morally bankrupt gang or carpetbaggers america has witnessed in the last hundred years, they need to throw themselves into the nearest volcano.
How long does it take a GEICO agent to change the start date on an auto insurance policy from Nov 5 to Nov 4? Guess… go ahead, guess.
If you guessed 28-freekin’-minutes, you win the prize.
That’s all I was changing - the date. I couldn’t do it on line, which is why I called. And most of that time, I was on hold. Sheesh.
What makes it worse - I have 250 phone minutes per month on my plan. That was more than 10% in one call!!! Not that it’s a huge deal - I don’t think I’ve ever used more than 200 minutes anyway, especially now that I can text all I want.
But it’s done. So is the back yard - I mulch/vac’d as much as I could drive over. Some areas will have to be cleared with a blower or rake. I also used the blower out front to clear the walkway and some of the front flower bed - it’s pretty overgrown so some leaves stayed trapped. I can get them out when the greenery all dies back. For now, tho, I’m done.
Not sure what we’ll do for supper. Not sure if I’ll even see FCD by then. He’s like a kid with a new bike, except he’s an almost-retiree with a new (to him) Caddy. Boys and their toys…
Too late for you if you’ve ordered the replacement, but sometimes, if you call up a company and are all sweet and polite and say how you’ve loved using the thing, but it wore out, do you have replacement parts for it?, they might, just maybe, might offer a free replacement or a nice discount on a replacement. Some companies follow the LL Bean or Nordstrom playbooks and will bend over backward to keep a long term customer happy.
Work-to-rule can be a useful tool against management.
Afternoon all. Ended up mowing the lawn, dropped the mower down a notch or two to get an end of the year mow and ended up with 7 bags of clippings. Hope that is the last time I have to mow this year…
Pretty day, but it’s the only one I don’t have soccer going on, so will probably hang around the house.
The tightness of the race has me pretty devastated, but it’s not the Dems I’m blaming. Where the fault really lies is much darker and more frightening: it’s with the many millions of Americans who don’t respond to reason or calls for compassion, no matter how irrefutable the logic is or how eloquent the calls; who either applaud or shrug off the lies, the insane claims, the hatefulness, the evil; who swallow whole the propaganda churned out by certain media outlets.
The hope that 2016 was an aberration and that this election we’d see people swing back toward normalcy, conscience, and reason carried a huge price tag, and this is it. I have no idea how to fix the underlying situation that allowed this to happen. I was hoping that with this election, we’d see we had some time to combat it, and that maybe it wasn’t quite as overwhelming as it sometimes appeared these last four years, so today’s reckoning is my price tag.
I’m sorry I can’t be more cheerful. I know life goes on and that people have other troubles to worry about. I just can’t focus on what I’m going to eat today, if anything, or what my plans are. I’m trying to stay very quiet inside myself and only plan the next thing I’m going to do just before I do it.
I’m sorry I said anything. I know a lot of people here struggle with depression much more than I do, I just forgot about that for a few minutes and let my inner barbarian out.
You’re welcome on my screen anytime. Being cheerful at all times is not required. I let it all hang out today too and may again.
Gibbs is adorable! Sweet puppy. If he likes cats he can dude ranch at my house when his vacation rolls around, so you can go to Paris.
I did remember to pick up the middle schooler. She is so cute. Her mom and I had to convince her that her generation had not invented minor vandalism in junior high bathrooms. Hard core stuff like putting the whole roll of toilet paper in the toilet and flushing or, gasp, stringing paper toweling all over the floor. She is sure that this means the end of civilization is at hand and it is the 6th graders’ fault.
Nellie, well said and I agree with every word. Even if Biden ends up winning, this election has shown us some very ugly things about our country. And with the Senate remaining red, there is very little chance of any meaningful legislation happening in the next two years at least, probably four.
And if Trump wins, it will be very tempting to cut myself off from all of it, ignore everything that goes on beyond my immediate experience. I know that won’t be the right thing to do, but it may be necessary to maintain any sort of emotional health. For a while, anyway.
