House hunting, a home-sweet-home MMP

tar-ra! tar-ra! tar-ra!
I thought I’d start off the cheering for Monday’s MMP host early (as opposed to tomorrow)

OMG, I should just capitulate and agree to do the MMP for Monday. I promise to put on my nice cap. LOL So yes, go ahead and put me down for Monday’s MMP.

While the weather was quite pleasant, it wasn’t as warm as I’d hoped it would be - IOW, I wanted to go out w/o a jacket and it just wasn’t that warm. But my gosh, it was enjoyable!

And now I’m hearing that the health care reform bill has PASSED!!! Oh yeah!!!

I have a cooking question…

if a recipe says something like:

Whisk egg whites in a large bowl until quite firm. Sieve and gradually fold the caster sugar into the egg whites.

What does that “fold” mean? Would it be to pour it slowly making sure it’s properly mixed? i.e., don’t just stir in big circles but also vertically (not whisking but, since the whites are “quite firm” you sort of take big glops of it from the bottom to the top), the final mixture has to be completely homogeneous.

Sorry, I know I shouldn’t buy cooking books, specially given that I’m NOT going to try anything new in my current kitchen (although I might, if the two motherless ones go away for Christmas), but it was from Think Pink and several of the “sweet stuff” and “exotic for me” recipes look doable and… :o

I behaved, the whole trip was under 100 quid in spite of spending over two hours “shopping.”

Sort of. Check out this page of “essential” cooking techniques. Usually, folding is more for putting egg whites into batter, but the concept is the same - mixing something and meringue together without collapsing the foam. There’s a video almost hidden right over the “Folding” header - once you see it done, you’ll go “Aha!” and grasp it quicker than trying to read about it.

I love you. And yeah, it’s basically what I thought it was, but I swear the hardest part of following a recipe is just the vocabulary most of the time. Then there’s the recipes with missing pieces and the ones which say things like “you absolutely must use <some cheese I’ve never heard of>.” I mean, I’m a PITA about olive oil but I don’t think I’ve ever said it’s impossible to fry a potato omelette in canola :stuck_out_tongue:

Bookmarked the page

why am I still up? I mean I haven’t even napped since 9am Saturday

I know why I’m up. It’s after 5. I have no choice. I must be awake. Oh well.

Taz is full of piss and vinegar this morning. He’s been teasing Bernie and she wants. no. part. of. it. The only time she barks these days is when he torments her. What a brat!

Not sure if the fambly wants to go out for breakfast this morning - I guess we’ll see once they raise from the dead.

What an exciting morning, eh? Happy Sunday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’.

Soon I shall purtify. I’m bein’ taken out for brekkie before churchification. Sounds good to me!

Herbs glad you saw the light and volunteered.

Well, well, well… We had pancakes and sausage for breakfast! (Who’d have thought it.) Except, I tried to reduce the amount of batter but somehow ended up with near-crepes. They tasted alright, but just looked sort of weird.

Morning Mumpers! I’m up and caffeinated. I’m gonna go and get deheathenated, then go to the DOGPARK!. I might redecorate my tree, too.

It has? It has?

OMFGBBQPONIES!

ahem Sorry. My lib’rul side had to have a squee fest for a moment.

Today is Parkway Day! After I get brunch at Tupelo Honey which means I need to leave right the hell now to avoid the after-church crowd.

I’ve been up for a while, although I got up way later than I wanted and have mostly been stuck staring at hulu, watching Standoff. There seems to be a nearly endless supply of one- and two-season shows that I never saw when they were on but are still interesting, in this case downright hypnotizing.

Fortunately, since it’s running on the laptop, I can move it around and still get stuff done in the house. More slowly than I’d like, but still done.

Need to get some gardening done later, though, so I guess I’ll need to stop at some point. I can do it. I’m strong. Right?..Right?

Good morning everyone! Did you all miss me?

I had the most wonderful time on the island of Kauai and I’ve got the tan to prove it. The only part of of my vacation that sucked was coming home and finding out my bags didn’t make it with me. I’m hoping against hope they’ll be delivered today.

I kind of skimmed a few pages, but haven’t really retained anything. I’m still tired. I was up everyday before the sun came out (four or five in the morning), and stayed up into the wee hours of everynight. We found beautiful beaches and I took lots of pictures.

I need coffee.

ok - I get the “OMFG” but “BBQPONIES”?:confused::confused:

I am…

I don’t know. Hungry? Tired? Lazy? All three is the most likely answer.

Here’s a link to some of the pictures we took while on the island of Kauai. We took 275 pictures, but I only posted about 60 something.

Mmmmmm…barbecued ponies…

Pretty pretty pictures, Taters. Sounds like you had a great time. I’ve always had my luggage arrive eventually when it didn’t make it on time. All but once it’s been here as the same day I got here or the next morning. Exception was this spring when it took a week, but it eventually got there and would have been there sooner if I hadn’t been moving around.

I had an awesome time, gt. I’m still amazed and honored that we were asked to come along.

WRT to our bags: last night we were told that they would arrive in Seattle this morning at 8:30. No freakin’ bags arrived. So, now we’ve been told that the next flight arrives at 4:30 this afternoon. I really hope the bags are there.

Taters welcome back! Glad you enjoyed Hawai’i. When may we put you down for a MMP to tell us all about it? Luggage not arrivin’ reminds me of our acronym for Delta… Don’t Expect Luggage To Arrive. I have flown Delta a lot. I have had delayed luggage a lot.

Spaz I get this mental picture of a free for all Jerry Springer type melee over Tupelo honey. It amuses me.

Today, I got churched after havin’ brekkie out. Then we had Chinese for lunch. Then I napped. Then I got up and took out the trash in the kitchen cause it smelled. Then I had a beerverage. Then I had another beerverage. Then I posted. I am exhausted from all this effort!
