While I love the place as well, it’s kind of hard to walk into a bar and look for people you’ve never met before. I’m recommending O’Hara’s because a)it’s easy to find, and b)I can reserve tables in the name of Cecil Adams, something not possible at D.B.'s. If nothing else, we can meet up at O’Hara’s for cocktails and appetizers/dinner and move on to the downtown area if we feel like it.
Since a couple of people are coming from way up north and at least one person is coming from way down south, I also recommend moving the time up to 2 p.m. to allow for travel time. Will that work for you, Mishell?
I’d also like to reiterate that I have a sleeper sofa and (limited) floor space (read: one bedroom apartment) if anyone wants to camp out over night til Sunday (and maybe do Sunday brunch?).

In theory, not a problem at all. There is one complication, though. I probably will not know whether I’ll be able to make it until just a few days before the event takes place. It’d be a bummer if BK (or anyone, for that matter) was depending on me and I ended up not being able to make it, which is a distinct possibility. On the other hand, I guess a possible ride is better than nothing.
Several Dopers have expressed interest in renting hotel rooms for the night of the 11th. It’s way to early to plan this, but when it gets closer I’ll ask for a count to see how many rooms are necesary - right now I’m thinking two adjoining suites.
Of course, my real reason for posting is to bump this thread for others to see
Bob (imthjckaz) and I met with sandyr at McMillan’s last night. We enjoyed the visit, and I have also been talking with Ad Noctum through e-mail. I think it will be a good time for anyone who will be able to attend.
I hope more people will see this and want to attend also.

As expressed in #straightdope, I vote “Yes” to the hotel room.
I checked the schedule, and the Official VA Veteran’s Day is Nov. 10. The remaining hurdle is to have my leave approved, and right now, there’s no reason to think that that won’t happen. And, I am interested in a hotel room just in case. (Subject to change).

I am picking up NuVoDaDa from Northfield, I’ll be happy to offer you a ride from the Cities. We’ll pick you up on the way to St. Cloud.

I noticed somewhere that you are a student at UMD. Is there a bulletin board somewhere on campus that has a ride share type of deal?
When I was living on campus at St. Ben’s, they had a sign-up sheet for riding together. They also had some cards posted such as “Need a ride for the weekend of Nov 10-12, to and from St. Cloud.”
Is this a possibility for a ride for you? There may be students from here attending that college.
Right now, no one at my house has a car that we would depend on to drive that far. I’m know we will be able to do Little Falls to pick up Ad Noctum, but Duluth is much farther, otherwise Bob (imthjckaz) and I would try to come get you.
Anyway, get back to us on this if you see it.
