I was in Labor(Day) for 24 hours! - A Relaxing MMP

I spent the morning talking to one of my sisters. She says I’m her life coach. I’m barely worth my $0 hourly fee, but hey, I’m available. The gym is open today, so I’ll head there, then launder sheets and towels from daughter’s visit.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SOLOST! :birthday: :gift: :champagne: :confetti_ball: I hope the sloth is even better than usual. Also, that you get cake.

FCM, even half-blind moi could see that one coming, so I know you’re not surprised by the parents-in-law’s cold feet. Sadly, it’s probably going to take something awful to change their minds, and maybe not even then. I feel so bad for you and FCD. You sure work hard to try to help them.

That sounds like a fun shopping list!

flyboy, sorry about the BIL (common-law?)'s toe.He sounds like he’s, er, difficult.

The first one is right. It’s a short way of saying “bachelor-ing it,” which would be pretty awkward.

I do math sometimes when I lose track. I’ve got a few more months at 68, then a year of a snerking age. It would have been so much easier if 'd been born in a year ending in 0 instead of 4.

It’s not even 3 and I’m starving! I think I need to have bigger meals earlier in the day. Meanwhile, an apple should suffice. Or maybe a bowl of melon chunks?

Happy Moonday!

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Birthday Solost!

I thought your name was soloist, but not so.
Perhaps we should call you The Wanderer, although I’m sure somebody else will come up with something better. Maybe Dion.

Rainy morning at the park. I’m surprised so many were there, Including Barky and Humpy, who usually don’t come on rainy days. Thirteen people and fourteen dogs. I think I got a semi-apology from Barky mom. She’s dieting and it’s making her grumpy.
I actually expected today to just be Lucy, Lily, Coco, Ripple, and Echo.
I guess calling all the people who won’t come out on rainy days wimps finally sunk in.
Let’s see what they do when it’s 16 degrees outside. I can’t say much because I wimped out a lot on the cold days last winter.

Adam Cat is actually A DAM(n) Cat. It took so long to name him. I still call him CatCat most of the time, or FatAssedCat. I don’t worry about him getting on the counters, his fat ass can’t make it up there. He has lost a lot of weight since he’s been going outside. He’s still pretty hefty, and jumping up on things is not something he does often.

I’m not planning on doing much today, even though there is a lot that needs to be done. I’ve decided I have to lower my standards a bit around the house. I once had it at a place where it didn’t look lived in, I can’t keep that up anymore.
Right now, I feel overwhelmed and that makes it harder to get motivated.
At least my knee is finally feeling better and so I can get more done.

I messed up the grocery order yesterday. I should have checked the pantry and I didn’t. We’ll make do with what we have. I’m not going back for just a few items.

Still haven’t heard anything from the Lawn Guy. My son was supposed to mow the lawn today, but with the rain, that isn’t happening. I think my son can just keep mowing the lawn, and I need to find a new handyman.
I wonder if it would work if I put up a sign saying FREE on the chunks of tree trunk out back. I’ve had five people express interest, and yet the chunks are still there.

What nice cards Red, Very pretty.

I’m sorry for your family woes FCM. At some point they are probably going to lose the ability to make choices for themselves. It won’t be pleasant at all.

Congrats on the new grand Swampy.

We never worried about ice around here, neither of us likes super cold drinks. Then I bought my son a snowball machine. I couldn’t find the ice cube tray so I had to buy new ones. It makes it easier to water the orchid, it is supposed to get one ice cube a week.

I’m skipping the Pooch Plunge this year. Neither of mine get in the pool unless I drag them in. There are too many stairs up to the pools, and I don’t want to push it with my knee.

I love your GG stories JtC, even if I don’t always say so.

Of course, your cat has trained you Shoe, cats are better than dogs. Adam has his ways of getting what he wants. The more treats stare works pretty well with me. He does a cute little thing with his mouth when he wants a piece of ham or shrimp. If he wants out, he aggravates Ripple until Ripple reacts and I get pissed and let him out.
My son is a little tougher to train, but Adam got my son to let him out the front door this morning, even though he had just come in the back door. I told my son that Adam could go out the back door with us as we were leaving in a few minutes, but no, my son followed Adam to the front door to let him out.

Doggio, you’d think the dogs at the park were going to kill each other if one of them is outside the park. Once inside, all is cool. Nobody has tunneled out yet, although Urban almost tunneled through to the small dog side. Digging is not allowed, but Urban has dug such a deep hole in the back behind the trees that you could dispose of a body back there. No danger of a person stepping into the hole, but we’re afraid a small dog might get stuck in it.

I had to look up Mos Eisley MetalMouse

I do need to do something around here, like get the trash ready to go out.

:champagne: :birthday: :partying_face:HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :birthday: :champagne:

:champagne: :birthday: :partying_face:HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :birthday: :champagne:

And that’s scary with the FiL.

I’m seeing if I can put Linux on an old laptop(Windows…Vista). If it works, I save $250 vs. a refurb.

Remember That Darn Cat? DC was Darn Cat in the movie, but Damn Cat in the original book (Undercover Cat).

Sorry to hear that. There are times I’m glad my parents didn’t live long enough to go through it. (Dad died at 58, mum just shy of 70.)

That’s how I say it. BATCH-ing, like a batch of cookies, +ing.

The old home health nurse in me predicts the same thing, but @nelliebly expressed it more kindly. Wish there was easier answers.

One of my three :cat2::black_cat::cat2: is named Gruntle because as a little kitten she made me feel the opposite of disgruntled. She has gotten so hefty I call her Pudgebutt more often than anything else. She’s atypically clumsy for a cat, which doesn’t help. She was a feral rescue as a tiny kitten and I think a very tough infancy had an effect on her brain, but I love her. My roommate calls her Tonka because she is built like a truck. It doesn’t help that her feline sister is a perfectionist Siamese. They are hard acts to follow.

Thanks. It’s especially hard because FIL was such a sharp, handy person till very recently. His body and his brain have deteriorated so much, it’s hard to see who he used to be. Heartbreaking…

My dad died suddenly at 72, but Mom is still going strong at 88. She’s slower and not as strong as she used to be, but her mind is still sharp. Here’s hoping I take after her.

As if their health issues weren’t enough, they’re both sooooooo stubborn. Otherwise, they’d have moved here a few years ago before it got to this point. But there’s not a lot we can do about that, can we. So we do what we can.

I ate really early because I was stahvink!!! Tummy is happy now. Higgs isn’t - she’s still got to wait 8 more minutes.

I’m going to push the vacuum over the area rug before Tobias gets here (not sure if I’ll do it tonight or in the morning) but for the most part, the place is in order and ready for our guests.

Well, I officially (might) have a cold. The mild congestion and slightly runny nose continue, and I think whatever this is has started to move from my sinuses to my chest. I’m still not sneezing or coughing, and I tested negative again this morning, but I’m feelin’ it a bit more than I have the past two days. At least I can still sleep/rest, so I’m not at the point of wanting any meds yet. I’m kinda grumpy, though, because it meant cancelling my “nephew’s” birthday dinner yet again…and I’ll be skipping tomorrow evening’s in-person support group meeting. Abundance of caution, yadda yadda yaddda. I already have a nurse practitioner appointment on Wednesday afternoon — a surgery follow-up and reviewing my recent lab results (which are awesome, BTW!) — and if I still feel like this on Wednesday morning I’ll ask if she recommends a PCR test. And if she wants to switch my in-person appointment to telemed.

Other than feeling a bit under the weather, it’s been a pretty good day of sloth. I probably should have done my laundry, but I decided to put it off since I’m not going anywhere for at least a couple more days. The weather is a bit under the weather at the moment, too: the drizzle started a while ago, and once the rain starts in earnest it’s not supposed to stop until sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I’m more-or-less ready to resume working tomorrow morning. Bailey refuses to get a job, so someone has to pay for the dog food. I’ll be taking a quick break at 10am to get Kennedy Center tickets: Wicked will be here in December/January, and tickets go on sale to members tomorrow morning. My theater buddy and I have seen it before, but we’re happy to see it again and are still just glad that live theater is back. We used to see something at the Kennedy Center at least once a year, but haven’t been since 2019. Our preferred show date isn’t until January, but it will be nice to at least have plans to go back again.

Happy birthday, solost! :birthday:

FCM, so far I haven’t commented on your in-law situation simply because I don’t know what to say. It is a tough, tough thing. FWIW, I think about y’all more than you’d think an internet stranger would!

shoe, here’s to ani rkday with no tears shed.

JtC, PM me with the deets of what your mom would like and I can ship one off to you to give to her.

Happy birthday solost!

Well, I irked on Labor Day and didn’t even get to leave early. In fact, I was offered OT. :open_mouth:

Home and walked Nelson before it rained. The allergies are beginning to subside since the rain has washed the pollen out of the air the last couple of days.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

So I’m all neurotic about making sure DH is very well informed about heat-related issues. He has plenty of his preferred sport drink mix and assures me his company is scrupulous about water, rest breaks, etc., in hot weather, but I’m still worried about him working outdoors doing construction stuff in this heat wave. Triple digits all week, over 110 tomorrow and Thursday, sayeth the most reliable weather forecasting local news station.

I hope everyone else in the heat-affected areas is holding up OK.

My wife and I defrosted our chest freezer this morning, then had lunch, and are now vegging out watching the second game of the J’s v O’s doubleheader.

You have a freezer just for storing chests? Is it big enough for a whole torso?

SWMBO requested the leftover shrimp alfredo for dinner tonight.

That game is for the birds! :stuck_out_tongue:

113 or 114 here, depending on which you believe. We’re only 4-5 degrees cooler than Death Valley. I am NOT venturing outside. Kidnapped one of DH’s spare cooling bandanas (last time he needed more, we bought a 12-pack and he’s only used one. Spares are not a bad thing to have) and am soaking it now. I don’t think I can tolerate turning my thermostat to the requested 78-80, but we’re at 74. I felt VERY sorry for the Amazon driver who brought me stuff today, but he seemed quite cheery. He reassured me he had plenty of cold water in his vehicle when I expressed concern and offered him some.

Statewide, we’re on Flex Alert, which is why I mentioned requested thermostat settings. What laundry needed to happen was done this morning, and food is likely to be on a grazing from the fridge basis or perhaps brief microwave use. For those familiar with the Sacramento area, I live in the SMUD service area, which is generally a good deal more reliable for power than PG&E territory, but SMUD’s now talking rolling blackout to cope with record power demand.

Evening all. No soccer tonight, I had called it off Saturday so everyone could enjoy Labor Day and because of the rain Sunday and today, the Parks Department closed down the fields anyway, so I guess I was a pretty good predictor. A Culver’s Butterburger is residing comfortably in my belly, and may watch some college tackleball tonight (managed to avoid it all weekend).

Asimov, (Hari Seldon is one of the Science Fiction writer Issac Asimov’s most well-known characters), I find I don’t have the patience to watch baseball much anymore; 3 hours of men standing around 90% of the time just can’t hold my interest (do listen to the Guardians and Cardinals when I’m in the car). If you can bear it, good on ya.

Nettie, man, that is hot; for kid’s soccer we take multiple water breaks if the temperature is above 85F and monitor it closely even if it’s cooler. Really feel for anyone working out in that kind of heat. Not neurotic at all; just respecting the weather.

Oopsie, hope you get the seats you want for Wicked.

Sari,

I’ve never had that, even when I got new furnishings…

:astonished: :astonished: :astonished: Surely I am not the only Star Wars (the original trilogy) Geek here?

flyboy, sorry sister’s ‘husband’ had to lose a toe to hopefully see how stubborn he was being…not that it will cure the stubborness…

Monday’s are really busy in the MMP: mine will be the 56th message of the day, and there’s still 5 hours left (at least here). Does that mean we’re the popular kids now?

Take care all.

And on a more cheerful note, Misty has been with us for two years as of today.

I just hope DH elects to not re-enact the broken leg, which was three years ago tomorrow.

Rodent, I think it’s just that we’re a chatty bunch in here. Not that that’s a bad thing.

I remember so clearly when she showed up, how tickled you were and all the discussion about what to name her*. There were lots of adorable photos of her as I remember. That thread entranced me and was a big part of me signing up! So Boo being a Mumper is sorta kinda your fault.

*I suggested Grace because she seemed to be a grace in your life at that moment.

Howdy Y’all! Been a day of high sloth. On the upside, my sinuses are less, ummm… sinusy right now. Any need to feed here has been via forage. I did go back to sleep after my first post and slept until almost noon. The most productive thing that happend was haulin’ the biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow.

Nettie y’all be careful in that awful heat! That is just waaaaaaaaay to hot! Happy Misty Day!

I have read all, but again, I have the comprehension of a lobotomized gnat today. Thus, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, and how you doin’s all around as needed.
