I was in Labor(Day) for 24 hours! - A Relaxing MMP

I’m not really good at slothing. Also, my upgrade project appears to be a bust. Oh well.

I’m always up for visiting wretched hives of scum and villainy!

You might say he’s Foundation of one of Asimov’s biggest works.

EEK!

I feel for all the folk in the hubs. most of them don’t have A/C.

Dinner at the niece’s house today. Barbecued ribs and all sorts of auxiliary foods. Plus a swirling maelstrom of seven dachshunds at all times.

I did not know that. :frowning:

That was my favorite suggestion, but DH really fixated on calling her Misty, and it didn’t seem worth the battle to push for another choice.

At no point was GG frightened or even concerned. He has feets like a Lemor, he can grip the door with his toes. I also wasn’t concerned. He’s a young, healthy teenager. They bounce really well at that age and sometimes ya gots to fall…

I’m sorry that things have gotten so bad so quickly with your in-laws. I understand that folks who develop dementia remember when they could do things which is just another frustration for them. I hope things get more peaceful for eveyone soon.

It’s a little easier for us because we are retired, so can get on him more. The real lesson we want him to learn…and it is one all of our other cats learned…is don’t do that when the people are around. Have the decency to jump off the table when you hear us coming, damnit

We live a few miles away from the I17. Az dept of transportation has cameras over the interstates to monitor road conditions. We do much retired chortling when checking the traffic on long weekends.

Happy birthday and your idea of power-slothing is quite good! I hope you enjoyed your day

Thanks, I always look forward to another episode of As the Tails Wag.

Awesome, thank you!

Not neurotic, justifiably concerned sounds more like it. Heat really can kill.

It was a little cooler here, didn’t reach 110 but there wasn’t any wind which made the sun feel hotter. I didn’t spend much time outside either.

As heat enforced inside sloth happened today, I put my seminar piece on the stand and got to work. (I’ve been working on my BFF’s piece because it was on the stand and I was too lazy to change them.)

The piece is a sampler with 16 squares. The class moved quickly, as it needed to so the instructor could cover all areas in just four days. I’ve managed to finish several squares and have figured out where I miscounted.

Imgur

I miscounted the grid on the upper left part of the canvas, so the super duper complicated square to its left that I worked with two 70 inch lengths of floss has to be ripped out despite being perfect. This is how things end up in the closet for weeks or even months.

Thanks! I did do some enjoyable power-slothing.

That’s why I don’t do counted stuff.

Hell, my last relationship (my I.T. Guy) coined the phrase “Nobody ever hired me for my math skillz” and that is one true statement.

Well, obviously my math skillz aren’t the best or I wouldn’t be sitting her backstitching a stinkin complicated section backwards.

/Even a noob knows to use a piece of basting thread to outline the grid so things like this doesn’t happen. I schlepped a roll of basting thread both ways, but did I use it? The instructor had some “invisible” pens she encouraged us to us, did I borrow one of those? Oh noooo, of course I didn’t because I know better than everyone else./

Sounds a bit like our two girls. They learned in kittenhood that everything is either food or a threat. Seven years of being safe and well-fed have done little to convince them otherwise. But they’re cute little screwed-up nut jobs.

Today was not so crazy at the zoo; I guess people had other Labor Day plans. Still pretty busy, but less than 5000 heads. Back to normal tomorrow.

Well, I never got to the gym. The new blinds don’t allow for the tension curtain rod (not allowed to use nails or screws in walls here), but the Command holders I got from Da Jungle arrived today. Yay! And oops. The old tension rod isn’t long enough. So I walked to two stores and found one that will hopefully work. The stores were packed. Whatever happened to camping and picnics on Labor Day (asked the person who did neither and went to a store)? Then my cousin called. Then I gave up. Oh, well, I walked 4 miles in total, so that’s something.

swampy, glad you’re feeling better! When you get that much sleep, do you have a hard time sleeping at night, or are you a gifted sleeper?

Happy Day to Misty!!!

I can and do sloth, but then I feel guilty about it.

Howdy all. Happy new week. Nothing of interest to report here. Still hotter than hell.

I did get to watch the Falcon launch last night from my front yard. It was nice and clear. Quite a sight.

Stay healthy everyone.

Pokes head in.

Finally caught up with both last week‘s and this week‘s MMP.

On vacation in Northern California, and it’s really confusing to read the MMP from the viewpoint of PDT.

Good call. I’ll be your magic invisible internetz friend, loyal and steadfast anyway.

this is our yellow cats … the older one by a few minutes of the two cal;med down a bit the other one … well her wasn’t "evil B.cat/kitty for nothing (and the b doesn’t stand for anything nice )

So remember a couple of years ago when I said the owners wanted us to move after 30 + years eventually? then the lockdown and we got covid and the housing market was insanely priced? Well because the CA lockdown protection ended they tried giving us a 60-day notice that looked like it was copied out of a book in the library … thinking we wouldn’t know how the eviction process works in ca …but the aunts frazzled and upset …so tomorrow I get to call the union and there’s gonna be s fight

I am very jealous.

I finally finished tearing all that work out. /beats self up again, I was one thread off because I was too lazy to count so eyed the other sections and took off. Cause I’m a dumbass who just cannot learn to not do that./

I’ll be over it in the morning, I’m just super annoyed at myself plus I don’t think I have enough of the sparkly floss to do that section over and I’m going to have to fake it with something out of my stash and I hate having to do that.

VBC has stopped licking our hands. We don’t like her licking our hands because we know where that tongue spends a lot of time but she has always been a licky kitty who would get in sneaky licks when we weren’t being careful. Today she isn’t even trying to lick us. We are calling the vet tomorrow, something is wrong.

Her tongue automatically comes out when GG cuddles up to her, so she’s not sick enough for the emergency vet, but I can tell that she just ain’t doing right.

I don’t know anything about the legal stuff, but I am sure this is going to be just another pain in your ass for a very long time. Good luck!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Cool!
: waves southward :

I love this mental image!!!

I am suitably impressed! Apart from the major challenge of threading a needle, considering my degraded eyes, I can’t imagine the patience and attention to detail this all requires. Plus you go to all the trouble of doing similar decoration to a tea towel, then someone has the audacity to use it to wipe their hands, fercryinoutloud!!! :open_mouth: No respect…

We’ve had Ziva since Feb 2009. She still runs away from everyone but me. Since I’ve been home alone, she’s come out during the day to hang out, but the second someone else sets foot on the premesis, she’s either under the bed or behind the couch. No clue why - no one has ever been mean to her. Guess it’s a cat thing.

The rain arrived sometime overnight and it’s still coming down on and off. We’re on the edge of the system, so we’re not getting the flooding downpours others are getting, but because so much of the area west of us drains to the bay thru our county, we’re under flood watch. Not that it affect our house or most of the roads we travel. But there ya go.

I stripped the bed and I’ve got a basket of dirties to haul downstairs. Which means I’ll be doing laundry while Tobias does his best to get into things. At least in the basement, there’s very little I need to worry about. I’ve blocked access to the hearth and I put the trash cans out of his reach. There are lots of toys to divert him. It should be a good morning. (And now I’ve jinxed that.)

Because of the rain, I’ll be bringing Roxy back here after school. Plus her mom has a meeting after school, so I can’t dump her off there. Wonder if I’ll end up feeding her supper? Guess we’ll see.

It just occurred to me - for the next week or so, I’ll be dealing with the baby and the inlaws. I’m already exhausted. Who knew retirement would be worse than working???

Happy Tuesday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today is laundry day. The thrill of it all is almost too much. I could mow today, but I think I shall put that off until tomorrow. I feel muchly better today, which is good, but kinda feel I should put off strenuous activity for one more day. I am a delicate little flower after all! Sup shall be sketties 'n meatballs, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. I like the fact that I can yank skettie sauce and meatballs outta da freezer for this. Matter of fact, let me go do that right now…

And, I am back!

Butters how cool you get to see that from your house!

JtC I have no idea what you are talkin’ back re the stitch thing, but it sounds frustratin’ so you have my sympathy. Also, here’s hopin’ VBC is OK.

shades go get 'em!

Nellie I am, indeed, a gifted sleeper, so I slept good last night. Also, I went to bed with Ben again.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

@JaneDoe42

This piece is wonderful!

Morning all. Up about 6am, turned off the HVAC last night and opened up some windows as the temperature was in the low 70’s, but still didn’t sleep as long as I thought. 1-in-4 chance of rain today, so we’ll see about soccer.

shady, like swampy says, if you know your rights then claim them, but it does sound like you’ll have to move eventually?

If one lesson has been reinforced since I’ve been a MMP’er, it’s that cats are weird.

Butters, it is one of my life wishes to see a rocket launch. One of these days…

Dicey, enjoy your vacation.

OK, that’s all I can manage this early in the morning. Need to change the air filter in the house and do a few other things, then gym and soccer for the afternoon’s exercise. All y’all take care.

Happy belated birthday solost, and FCM’s baby! I hope the weekend was good to everyone.

Jane, that is stunning work!

We didn’t do a ton over Labor Day. Once overlyboy’s cooties subsided, we went to the Wax Museum (St. Louis actually has one, much to our shock) and to a fun food hall, which was delightful. Apparently it was just the right window between overlyboy getting well and overlygirl getting sick. Her fever is high enough to make her uncomfortable (and to wake me up to complain three times last night), but low enough she’s mad at me for not letting her go to school. I was on the fence, but overlyboy’s coach tested positive a day after overlyboy got sick, so negative tests aside, I’m not convinced it’s not the 'rona since we haven’t been so “blessed” these past three years and the timing’s pretty fishy.

It’s a grey, cool day, and looks to be meeting light, work heavy. Guess it’s time to go caffeinate some more.
