Aww, that’s a swell story. Gonna remember that. Smile at them from me when you see them next.

Howdy Y’all! I spent four hours mowin’ over to the church house. I’m home (duh!), all showered, and hongry. OYKW is in the midst of makin’ the chikin nachos. We shall sup early.
That’s all the news from da cave for now.
Getting cloudy outside and a little bit of misting going on.
My neighbor asked me to step outside, he made us a chocolate cheesecake.
Echo seems to be feeling better.
Ripple is being a brat begging for treats. I suppose it’s a good thing, I knocked some mail off my desk and he picked it up and brought it to me. He always gets a treat for that. But he was also bringing me his toys, my shoes, anything he could find to get a treat.
No boxes from da jungle yet, but there should be a mess of stuff coming today.
Roxy has been fetched. Chinese has been ordered. I asked for delivery at 5:30. I got a text saying it’d be here at 5. Whatever…
Mail was just delivered - I’m gonna slog down the driveway. Or swim. It’s still raining and the yard is squishy. Well, not the paved part, just the rest.
I did early voting. I was #1609. The air recirculator in my HAVC rusted out, so they have to replace it. And I have a crappy guard dog. The one maintenance guy was already in the apartment when Gordie and I were out walking, and Gordie didn’t even notice him when we came back in.
I voted today too! Put my ballot in the hands of USPS, so hopefully Trumpy’s postmaster general won’t “lose” it. I think it’ll be OK though.
Got my nice new heavy-duty phone case today, which I only ordered after I dropped it and cracked the screen. #%*#$!! I’ve never had a cracked screen before - my luck finally ran out. But I already have an appointment to get it repaired and I like my new case; hopefully it’ll stay uncracked after that.
nellie, I’m still part of the bitchin’ itchies and probably will be until the first freeze shuts down the ragweed. Then I only have to deal with leaf mold for a while.
I’m glad they found Maki wheelie. Are you getting your phone fixed by U Break I Fix? If you are, chances are that the LCM display was shipped from the facility that I work for.
Ouch on the finger wordy. Take your husband’s advice and get it looked at.
Yikes nettie! It sounds like the last neighborhood in Nashville that I lived in. Not bad when you moved in, but crime ridden when I moved out.
I generally do tunafish with a bit of mayo (Duke’s if you can get it where you live), some pickle relish, If I have a red onion on hand, some of it finely chopped, a squirt of mustard and some garlic. Once in a blue moon, I’ll add chopped black olives to the bowl.
Quite possibly the worst tuna salad I ever sampled was when I lived in the House of Queens. Two of the guys were hosting a D&D game and during the break, one of the women volunteered to make some. She put SUGAR in it!
Ruined an otherwise perfectly good bowl of food.
I irked all day, fighting off coughing by taking benedryl every couple of hours. I didn’t get a whole lot of sleep last night from all of the coughing. I did set up my vaporizer and that helps when I’m home… To top it all off, I must’ve banged my left hip on something because it was sore all day and the right knee is up to its usual cold weather tricks.
I didn’t get groceries after irk because of feeling icky, but did swing through the cheap Chinese place down the street for some house special soupand a poke aig roll. I wasn’t really hungry, but got about half of it down. I may warm some of the soup up later.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Hmm. The NP called to check on me, which was nice. She also decided I should switch to a different antihistamine. She phoned it in, and I picked it up. Few problems: she prescribed 1/2 dose to start, but as the pharmacist pointed out, this only comes in capsules, so that’s not going to work. Also, it says not to take if you have glaucoma (Ding, ding, ding!) and that it can cause vision changes. And finally, I’m on daily gabapentin for migraine prevention, and I see either can magnify the effects of the other. NP and pharmacist both said doxepin really knocks people out, and gabapentin has a sedating effect. So I think I’d better hold off on taking it until I check on all that.
Sari, I got a chuckle out of Ripple. He’s a GOOD boy for bringing you the mail, and he’s worked a little side hustle. He’s a genius! Glad Echo is doing better.
Boo, I definitely will smile at them for you.
I think I should hold off on taking it until I get
missred (I don’t know everybody’s nickname yet!), I decided to go to the Apple Store rather than a third party. I think I have the warranty but I can’t find any evidence thereof. I imagine they can look it up. If not I’ll just bite the bullet and pay. It’s not time for a new phone yet and I cannot live with a broken screen much longer.
The furnace dude came over yesterday and pronounced everything to be fit, so some good news there.
Aggravated my arthritic back today rearranging stuff in the chest freezer. Seems like I can’t do any exertion without this flaring up, and according to the intertoobs, there’s just not a whole hell of a lot that can be done for it. Most frustrating. Popped a couple of Aleve and put some heat on it.
Grocery deliveries today. It’s safe to say that if the world ends, we’ll be able to wipe our butts and blow our noses for at least six months.
My daughter told me they got their first snow out in WI today. Very depressing for all of them, since summer was kind of a bust. We’re sort of alternating between rain and sun, and clear nights are down to the low 40s here in the PNW. The leaves will be coming down in buckets very soon.
Evening all. The cold weather has come to N. Ali-bama, 43F at present and heading for 38F. For our Northern Mumpers, that might still be fall weather, but down here those temperatures mean getting out the heavy coats (I was born and raised in Northern Ohio, so I still retain some Midwest indifference to the cold). Coaching soccer at 8:30am, temp should be in the high 40’s, we’ll see how the boys deal with it.
Not much else to report, will be heading off to bed soon since I’ll be at the fields from 8am-12:30pm tomorrow.
red, hope you’re feeling better.
Hooray for all you voters. I’ll wait until the regular voting time, being retired I can stand in line for awhile, and even if my vote won’t make much of a difference (this is Ali-bama), I’m still going to vote; it’s my country too and I’ll exercise my rights.
Doggio, you’d think Gordie would have at least made sure he wasn’t an agent of the invisible mole people…
I don’t do tuna salad (or chicken salad for that matter). Still, it appears to be popular around the MMP…
Bumba, good luck with the chair repair work.
OK, need to prepare for lights out and set the alarm for way-too-early-for-a-Saturday. Take care all.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort. Then Second Sort. hopefully it will be a relatively anvil free day
Apparently if The Invisible Mole People ever teleport into the apartment instead of knocking, I will be brutally slain
There are several facilities which are outside of the U.S. which are accredited by AZA. Thanks for the tip regarding EAZA. I was looking at the butterfly garden’s site to figure out it’s accreditation, but the site is French heavy.
My mother never used celery in tuna salad, just pickles, which my husband thinks is weird. Years ago I had a hankering for a tuna melt and found a receipe for Italian style tuna melt which calls for chopped up black olives, a chopped up red onion, olive oil, lemon juice and black pepper. Put that with decent bread and a mild white cheese, and there’s lunch.
So that’s now on the list for the next shopping.
We going to a birthday party tonight, and that will probably be the last social outing for a while. The wagons are circling and it has been announced that the federal council will meet on Sunday to announce the new rules. The fact that they are meeting on a Sunday, is very unusual. I’m finding the politics of the crisis to be exhausting.
Still working on sorting through years of travel papers. I think I’m up to 70-some postcards which I never mailed, so I’ll be sending those out in the next months. I’m really glad we switched to digital photos. I cannot imagine how much space we would need for all the prints and negatives from the last 10 years. Of course, since we’re using digital, we’re taking a lot more photos.
On the other hand, I miss getting paper Christmas cards and letters. It’s nice to see the birth announcements, etc. Not quite the same as going through Facebook history.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 50 Amurrkin out and clear (BRRR!) with a predicted high of 76 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is Carole’s memorial service this mornin’ at ten-thirty. Since we still have the no more than fifty people rule, it will be livestreamed as well so those that want to can watch. There will be an outdoor reception afterwards. Other than that I foresee major chillage for the day. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit which makes it healthy.
sari sounds like Ripple has trained you well.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I must needs purtify and don appropriate attire to go assist with funeralizin’. This will be the first time I have donned the black suit in a long time. Seriously, do not even remember the last time.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Cold morning here, and it’s still really wet after the rain, so the cold seems to creep deeper. Or maybe it’s all in my mind…
Woke early, played on the tablet, fell back to sleep, but now I’m up for reals. I’ve tended to the critters and breakfasted myself. In a little bit, I’ll shower, dress, and run to Food Lion for a few items before things get crazy there. I’ve decided that today, I will clear out all the boxes in the guest room. Everything will either be put away, donated, or trashed. Then I can run the carpet cleaner in there in anticipation of the bed delivery on Oct 29. That’s about when our sofa and tables should arrive.
According to FCD, his folks are coming here for Thanksgiving, but they intend to drive themselves!! We were trying to figure out if there’s a good halfway point where they can leave their car and FCD can meet them and bring them the rest of the way, but I don’t see that happening. Maybe he can convince them to let him pick them up and take them home again… maybe… MIL was worried when she heard that people coming from FL have to self-quarantine in MD for 2 weeks. She was afraid they’d be stopped at the state line.
As for tuna salad - meh. When I was a kid, all my mom did was mix tuna and mayo. I’m not a fan of raw celery or raw onions, and while I’ve had it with pickle relish, it just doesn’t do anything for me, so I don’t make it. And once I discovered grilled tuna steaks, I quit buying canned tuna anyway. I’ll do chicken salad or egg salad, but that’s about it.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, I haven’t been able to find any turkeys in the grocery stores. I want to smoke one, and I need a smaller one to fit in the smoker. Daughter doesn’t like them smoked, but I can roast one and share leftovers. We shall see. There’s an Amish farm near here that raises and sells turkeys - I was thinking about maybe going there. I’ve never had a fresh turkey - will it ruin me for Butterballs forever?? Hmmmmmm
We shall see. Meanwhile, onward to the day! Happy Saturday!
Well, I’m up (awake is still a work in progress). It’s 38F outside so I’m deciding how many layers of clothes to wear for the soccer games. At least the kids get to run around…
Mowage is planned for Sunday, might be the last or next-to-last for the year, I really don’t want to keep mowing into November…
All y’all have a good Sattiday.
Should I mention that it’s 64F outside, headed towards a high of 94F?
Morning, y’all. Making dinner for friends tonight, so the day will be full of puttering and prepping. First a batch or two of chocolate chips cookies, then a large Tamale Pie casserole for dinner. Their kids have always heard about it but never had it, so here’s hoping the recipe appeals to teenagers.
Everybody stay safe and healthy. It’s the weekend!
@nelliebly, Doxepin does have a sleepy side effect but if you are itching all night it is wonderful. Also it totally stopped an itch and hives attack I had been having for weeks, in about two days. So give it a try, and I don’t think a full dose would hurt you as long as you are not going to operate heavy machinery . Also be advised that doxepin is also used to treat depression, which sort of weirded me out when I read about the drug, but actually it’s all good if you’re itchy to have less depression. The other side effect I had was increased appetite but that was when I was taking it regularly instead of “as needed”.
Taking a break from ruthlessness. I’ve filled one big box with trash and it’s in the car. I’ve filled a smaller box with lots of fragile pieces - teacups and saucers, ornaments, miscellaneous stuff - and it’s destined for the thrift store. I’ve got another larger box for the thrift store - it’s mostly clothing, and I’ll be putting a few large glass bowls in there if my daughter doesn’t want them. The guest room is almost cleaned ready to be vacuumed and steam-cleaned.
I’m thinking I’ll also disassemble the crib and bring the futon upstairs - Roxy has just about outgrown the crib, and frankly, the mattress is sad. So once I get all the records out of her closet and fill it with her toys, I’ll de-crib the room and assemble the futon frame, then unroll the mattress. It should be ready for occupancy when she arrives on Tuesday.
Then there’s all the stuff from my desk that’s in 3 boxes behind me. I’ve got 2 cabinets to stow the stuff, and what can’t be stowed needs to go away. That should be a fun exercise.
It’s disturbing how much crap one can accumulate for no apparent reason.
Happy Saturday!
A chilly 34 degrees at the park this morning. I pulled out the long underwear and my toe warmers.
I said I wasn’t going to spend any more money at da jungle this year (except for Christmas), but I saw that I have only 24 pairs of toe warmers and that won’t get me through winter.
It appears that I am very easily trained, Swampy.
I’ve was at the park from shortly after 6 until almost 9. I’ve been home for an hour and I’m still cold. I would have stayed longer as Buttercup was running late, but I was too cold.
Ripple was so funny this morning. There are two ladies who walk around the park every morning, and they always have treats for the dogs. Lily will run right over to them, Echo will go with Lily. Ripple won’t go unless I go with him, and Urban usually won’t go without his dad. Urban’s dad was walking Urban over and he reached over and grabbed Ripple’s harness to take him along. Ripple gave him a look but walked along with him, but as soon as Urban’s dad let go, Ripple came flying back to me. So I had to get up and walk Ripple over.
Not at all like Echo. Urban’s dad took him over to the small dog side to chase the squirrels. Echo followed him right out the gate and over to the other side.
I don’t know what all I’m going to do today. Right now I’m so cold I don’t want to do anything.
If my new tub was in I could take a hot bath.
Most of my jungle packages didn’t get here yesterday, so I’ll be looking out for them today.
I can only eat tuna when I’m in the mood for it. Otherwise the smell makes me queasy. I’m kind of the same way with egg salad. However, I can always eat chicken or shrimp salad. Unless there are grapes or apples in the chicken salad. I suspect whoever came up with that combo is the same person who thought pineapple would be good on pizza.
