The only thing I have to add is, if a friend of mine sees me being harrassed and physically assaulted for a few hours, then doesn’t want me to call the police when the harrasser is waiting outside for me, he or she is not a very good friend. It doesn’t matter if I can take down an assailant, it doesn’t matter what a police response would do to the reputation of the establishment, if I am threatened, a friend will help me if he or she can and will not prevent me from calling for backup.

Definitely so. I don’t consider gender when situations such as those described in the OP arise.
But I’m weird that way. Feminism and chauvinism are lost on me; I tend to form my opinion of people regardless of their sexuality. Kind of a quirk of mine. You might want to try it sometime.
