Unfortunately, the originators of this trouble apparently cannot see beyond their indoctrination that they are being cruel with their words, regardless of their intentions, and will not back off from their position. Other posters see a way to pour fuel on the proverbial fire, and keep the war going.

gobear, I think for full indoctrination you have to be mentioned as being in the Clique by someone complaining about the Clique. Also, I think your name has to be mentioned without you posting in that thread, but I’m not sure it’s a qualification. I’d sponsor you if I were a member, but sadly, the only time my name gets mentioned is accidentally in junk food threads.
I want to be a clique member too. How does one apply? Are there dues? How many times per month do they meet? Will there be potluck luncheons and can I bring salad? Does everyone get an apron or just gobear? Is there a secret handshake and does it involve a high-five? But most importantly, how do you spend Clique Credit™ and do you have to purchase authorized clique merchandise or can I just spend it at the mall?

First off, the person offended, Eve, personally, needs to make the case of why a pit thread is necessary; perhaps an e-mail would’ve sufficed. Perhaps a cup of chamomille was all that was needed. Who knows?
Someone else stepping in to address an “incredibly cruel” offense to SOMEBODY ELSE is a reprehensible rhetorical tactic, and frequent one where there are minority issues addressed. Some call it mau-mauing.
The case of being needlessly insulted needs to be strong, otherwise it comes off as hypersenitivity, and borders on silencing the debate, especially if it occurs in GD and you provide no better way to state the offending phrase – and when asked how to phrase it, the only advice is “keep your mouth shut!”
In making the case, you need to not use worse insults (or ignore worse actors), otherwise you are appear fatally hypocritical and agenda-driven.
If all three happen, the thread is as this one is: laughable.

She did. The fact that she didn’t start the pit thread doesn’t mean she wasn’t hurt. It came through loud and clear to everyone that she was hurt.
