I have a feeling I was targeted on Night 1 because Prof. Pepperwinkle wanted revenge.
Pish-tush, I had other candidates.
Besides, I know better than to seek revenge on RONAN THE ACCUSER!
Bio and Dante seam to spend a lot of time talking about irrelevant things, like who killed who, and post restrictions.
Classic ‘talk about game mechanics but don’t push a vote on town, just join in’ scum stuff .
Definitely agreed, Precambrianmollusc. I’ve found that to be a very reliable indicator of scummyness.
From what I saw of “The Resistance” on Wil Wheaton’s Tabletop, I assumed it wasn’t a balanced game. It doesn’t look like you can gather much information if the Spies play perfectly. There isn’t the lynch like in Mafia to let you know gain 100% verifiable information that you can base your speculations on.
But since you guys like it, I figure it must be balanced–as you guys always balance your games. I obviously don’t want to hijack the thread, but can anyone give me a link that breaks down how the system balances out? Or should I just start a thread?
Probably better starting a thread as there may be others not reading this thread who can provide opinions including current players
I ran the games of Resistance on here. I just followed the rules of the original game of Resistance. I did not try to do any balancing. The original ten-player game I ran was definitely unbalanced. The second game with 7 players was much better I believe. The spies still won, but it was mostly due to an amazingly played game by Stanislaus. The second edition of Resistance did add “plot cards” to the game which are special events that happen during the game, so I think that the designers or publishers also felt it was unbalanced. The follow-up game Resistance: Avalon doesn’t have plot cards, but does add special roles to the game.
I don’t have time to search for specific threads right now, but here are links to the Resistance forums and Resistance: Avalon forums on boardgamegeek. I am sure you can find some discussion of balance in there somewhere.
2nd vote on Octarine. Again, easy to vote on a townie to try and get a lynch going. Curiously though, he never hops on the Mahaloth train, even after the confession…?
Possible PIS slip? Octarine is still alive, so she cannot be assumed to be a townie.
Of course, I want snfaulkner to be a Wolf because I cast my last vote for him.
I hope SNF isn’t scum. I like his approach of looking at the voting record.
First of all, I don’t believe Wil Wheaton’s video on The Resistance gave the game the presentation it deserves. His game was pretty poor, in my opinion. I’ve played a lot of The Resistance and face-to-face it is balanced pretty good.
I agree with Mental Guy, his first game was definately out of balance. His second one was better, but I remember thinking it was still skewing a bit in favour of the spies. I think there are ways to balance things out and I’m always in favour of trying out new things, but I don’t think Avalon would make a balance-difference in favour of town. I think number of spies is the biggest factor and even if you can’t see them in person, they will slip. Remember that all the perks of a face-to-face game can be twisted into an advantadge for spies as well as town.
Ack!!! Go read post #517 again! Hooker says that while he’s suspicious of Mahaloth, he is leaving his vote on Dante. How scummy is that?! It’s so frustrating not to be able to post. He doesn’t move his vote until AFTER reading my post.
By the way, I think it could be fun to try out playing in a riseup pad. I’m gonna post my thoughts on the game later, need to catch up.
Good play by the Town Investigator. Waiting until late in the day, but not the very end of the day is great claim timing. While IRConfused my not like that he got mostly Town results, that’s to be expected and can wind up being a powerful tool for Town. If the two investigates are not the alpha wolf then once the alpha wolf is lynched, then his investigations are pure gold.
The desire to want to lynch one of the investigates is not a good idea. Terrible math.
Thinking back on it, I don’t think I ever recall Town investigating the alpha. It must have happened by now. Maybe this is the one!
Yay! We did have a cop. And I agree good timing. And I agree that they need to lynch into the uninvestigated pool to find the scum(s) in that pool. Then the investigated pool will be known. (And they’ll be likelier to hit Hooker or Suburb, the scums!)
Um, I investigated the alpha last game. Didn’t get to claim though!
Eight players remaining.
If they confirm the cop and 2 known town investigations that leaves 2 scum in 5 players for tonight’s lynch. Pretty good odds. They’ll be down to 2 confirmed town after tonight because they’re almost certain to lose the cop.
This is actually a pretty strong town position. A three-person confirmed town voting bloc will make it VERY hard for scum to stay under the radar in the next lynch discussion.
I’m going to zag and say it’s not a good claim time for the cop and the beginning of the DAY would have been better because now the last 24 hours of the game day is upon them and any scummy bandwagoning will look like townie confusion. I’m a bigger fan of revealing a cop and the investigation results at the beginning of the day and then making the non-confirmed post their reasoning for their votes and defend them. Puts intense pressure on the scum.
Enjoy,
Steven
Suburban Plankton owes me a new scum-o-meter. Mine just exploded.
Enjoy,
Steven
Yeah I am ok with questioning and poking a little at a role claim, it is needed just to make sure the claim checks out , but Suburb seams to be overdoing it a little. If he is scum then I would say it smacks a bit of desperation knowing the town reads really are town and the pool to hunt scum in is really small now.
This post makes no sense to me.
If Prof P was gunning for lynch the lurker, then why does that make Octarine scum?
And why was Octarine’s lurking A-okay? Yet a vote?
Confusing
Also wasn’t octarine the target of a wagon lead by malahoth yesterday? Unless scum realize ctsrine has checked out and so may as well bus it does all seam manufactured
