Last week of April in the MMP

hippy, sounds at least like the tech guy knew his business; but yeah, 20+ hours without service and they still want to charge you $75 for a visit? Not a great business model.

nona, hope the replacement goes fine. My appliances got changed out in 2017 during the Great Remodel, so they should be good for another 15+ years one hopes.

Up early but haven’t gotten ready to go outside yet (doing that after entering this note). It’s 68F now going to 77F, so the heater will get this day off. Sun is out but there are clouds in the sky and rain is due tonight and tomorrow.

OK, need to do some banking and shopping and then back to isolation-ville.

All y’all take care.

Tuesday Morning, The Pogues

I’m in the midst of cleaning the oven. That is, I scrubbed it, and it’s now soaked with cleaner to soften the bit that need a little elbow grease. It’s not the easiest job for aching hands, but it’s satisfying.

Mini-rant: I hate when people say, “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion!” It’s not that it’s a statement of the obvious; it’s that what it really means is, “I don’t have any reliable data to back up my argument, and you can’t make me!” (This isn’t addressed to anyone on the SDMB. It’s people on social media who don’t like to have their posts defending quack doctors questioned.) OK, rant over.

Moooom, don’t hate me, but I like the directional arrows at supermarkets because they make it easier for me to keep a safe distance from other shoppers. The aisles at my store aren’t wide enough to let two carts to pass with people six feet apart. I wish they were.

Fingers crossed your dishwasher makes it through the COVID crisis.

Cupcake, hope you were able to get cornmeal. The recipe says stoneground, but I’ve made it with regular ol’ corn meal, and it comes out OK.

hi****ppie, that’s crazy about the cable situation. I get why they don’t want their service providers to enter a possibly germ-laden house (not yours, of course), but they’re considered an essential business because people need cable and internet.

ace, I saw two guys deliver a refrigerator yesterday. They wore masks and gloves, but they couldn’t do driveway delivery because it’s an apartment building. They hauled it up 36 stairs on a dolly, and went in to (presumably) install it. However, the regular maintenance guys aren’t going in apartments except for emergencies. So in your casethe delivery company won’t take the dryer into the house, but there are other outfits that will?

swampy, you’re so wise to avoid going to said restaurants. I wonder how business is. I’d think a lot of people would be hesitant to go, but then I see the idiots that have been crowding beaches, so maybe I overestimate people’s smarts. I’m very worried that I’m either going to have to go into total quarantine for the next 18 months or get COVID. At age 63 and with lupus, my survival odds aren’t great.

**nellie **- I understand the reasoning for the arrows. I just don’t like it. And you can’t make me like it! :stuck_out_tongue: FWIW, I only ignore them when the aisle is empty and I just need to go part of the way down. I’m not a monster. No, really - I’m nice, dammit!

Jeans are washed, carpet has been vacuumed, Roxy is lunching, and once she’s napping, I plan to read. Since supper will be a combination of leftovers and new stuff, it’ll be fairly easy to pull together. I hope.

Meanwhile, it’s still gray and dreary and way too chilly out, and the furnace has kicked on again! And it’s almost MAY!!!

Howdy everyone. I have read but I have nothing much to say except SSDD. Still staying isolated for the most part. Doing a little cleaning and a lot of sloth.

Stay safe everyone.

Well, the good news is the outlet on your wall determines which of the pigtails the dryer needs. The dryer itself is agnostic, it will use either one.

We got to the ‘little house’ around 3pm yesterday and unloaded ~4000 pounds of foodstuffs. Left the new lawnmower in the car 'cause Wifey’s back was acting up, so that’s on the agenda for today. The Son and DIL left us three fishing rods, two with reels, and a waffle maker, which we used to make brekkie this morning. They also set up Disney+ on our TV, so we have lots more stuff to watch.

Onward!

APril 2020 hasbeen the longest month of the decade, it just goes on and on and on.

Been having new car issues, finally got the car back last week. Subaru made it up to us in what I thought was generous fashion. Then the box arrived yesterday with a Subaru logo on it, this was unexpected. Made a few guesses before I opened it up, thought maybe it’s a emergency car kit or a sunshade or a mug and a tshirt. Nope. It was a DYSON vacuum cleaner! Now that’s some love!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Yep. I unscrewed the one that was on the old dryer, and put it on the new dryer. Easy peasy! It works, didn’t blow up, so, I guess it’s ok.

Nellie, nope. I didn’t even look for anyone else to bring in the dryer. Between my daughter (Mostly my daughter!), and myself, we did it. I didn’t think we could, but, that new Milwaukee hand truck that we bought yesterday, was the saving grace for us!
I’m trying to get things back in order. To get the old dryer out, and new one in, there was a LOT of re-situating of crap in the hallway. I’ve got throw rugs in the washer, a second load in the dryer, and I’m trying to do some assorted hovelwork between all that. I’ve had a nap, made myself a glass of iced tea (Unsweetened, as Og intended, damnit!), and I’m contemplating how I shall proceed.

And the dreary day is winding down. We might see a little sun tomorrow. Maybe. I hope.

Got chikkin on the barbie.

heh here in the desert its been dreary off and on but still hot … summer started early but after how cold march and the beginning of April was I don’t care

you know I’ve never known too many people that bought brand new tires … “new tires” to us were the ones that people with money traded in when they bought new ones every year cause the store wouldn’t trade in any tire that looked like it had over 10 k miles on it then they would only take trade-ins if you bought it from there but 40 bucks for a pair of tires that someone paid 200 for…

I wonder if the flour from yesterday was delivered …

hippy, had your internet woes been inside, your carrier would have likely suggested putting a data plan on a tablet or laptop (or both) so’s you would at least be able to pay bills, order groceries, etc. It would suck for TV watching, but you could squeak by otherwise.

nellie, your maintenance guys are like the one in my complex (he lives two doors down from me). He can only go into occupied apartments in case of a true emergency. IOW, the fluorescent bulb that’s blinky in my kitchen? Not until it’s over. The outside light finally got fixed though, since his time isn’t being taken up as much with indoor issues. :stuck_out_tongue:

Irked all day today. The old bat came into my (temporary) office twice before I told her under no uncertain terms was she to come in again the third time (think an office about twice the size of a cubicle. No way to keep six feet apart). Sometimes, I think she ain’t right in the haid. Next week will be our last one of working partial schedules. They’ll be paying hazard pay for another month or more however. That will make some nice paychecks.

I need to schedule Nelson’s annual checkup for next week when I still have a couple of days off. I may go for a doggy DNA test for him. His third birthday is tomorrow, as is his namesake’s 87th. I also need to schedule my next checkup, retinopathist and dentist appointment, all of which got postponed for the time being.

Stay healthy y’all!

Happy Tuesday, friends

Not much going on here. I’ve got a grocery order coming Thursday. I should have made it earlier because we’re super low on groceries right now. Not like we’re necessarily going to starve, but we’re down to not-preferred foods. Like several weeks ago, when I first reached the point where I couldn’t leave the house on my own and it was still just before Corona really sent us all inside, a few people brought or sent some snacks… and for some reason, every one of them thought I needed applesauce. Nobody here likes applesauce, so we have three packages of it in the pantry. We have tomato soup and protein shakes for the same reason. And I think some frozen veggie buffalo wings that turned out to be decidedly not great (although I bought those myself).

Also, it’s my birthday, so I’ve got a gift for myself on the grocery order: dinosaur bedding! I wasn’t really aiming for that, but I need new sheets, REALLY need new pillowcases, and could use a new comforter as well. Most of the options were either too frilly or looked like they belonged in some boy’s dorm room, so… dinos it is. Because I’m an adult and it’s my money and I want a dino bedspread, I can damn well have it.

Roommate just took off with the kid to a mystery location. My guess is her boyfriend’s place for dinner. So it looks like I’m on my own. As usual, I’m debating on ordering in. I almost always end up deciding against it and at the moment, I sort of… should have been paid but it hasn’t shown up in my account yet. Which makes me nervous. Buuuuuuuut unless that remains the case for another week, getting myself something for dinner isn’t going to be the difference between paying my bills or not. But it will be close enough that I had to do the math to make sure that was the case, which means it probably isn’t a good idea. So… fake buffalo chicken and tomato soup for dinner tonight, I guess.

Another day. Making chilie lime fish with beans n’ rice with chilie Arbol and cilantro, and cauliflower. NBCSN has the 1974 Flyers/Bruins Stanley Cup game on(the “I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out” era).

Every time I try to make hand sanitizer in my blender, it comes out margaritas.

:heart::heart::heart::heart:

Hippie, I used to have problems with my Internet provider. But since they wouldn’t fix the problem(the box for the neighborhood), I went to a different one.

FCM, it was sunny and nice today.:stuck_out_tongue: Which was good, because Gordie wanted a lot of walks.

chela, yeah April has been something. And tomorrow is Giant Meteor Day[sup][sup]TM[/sup][/sup]. If we’re still here at 05:57 EST, NASA was right about their calculations.

We don’t eat much chicken because Mrs. L.A. got tired of it. We usually get rotisserie or fried.

Of the BBQ chicken she said, ‘Your chicken tastes good!’ <3

Evening all. Pretty much a nothing afternoon, a lot of it was consumed by nappage and readage, with a little TV thrown in. Evening shall be internettin’.

Did do one thing, went to Target and bought 30 pairs of Crew socks…every couple of years I replace all my socks and since I’ll probably have to do an underwear wash this week, it seemed like the best time (the older socks will be washed and donated). Also picked up some more Bananas, if quarantine has done nothing else it has got me in the habit of eating bananas again.

doggio, while 4 million miles is a pittance in Interstellar terms, I think a distance of 500 earth diameters away is safe enough from this Giant Meteor…

Dot, I’ve had the same thing, some deposits haven’t shown up for a day or tow, and there are a couple of automatic charges to my credit cards that usually show up by now but haven’t, so I guess the processing system is slower these days.

Red, you kinda left us in suspense; what were you going to do if the old bat came in a third time??

Ok, dinner consumed and waiting on the Southwest Chief’s arrival at LaPlata, Mo. Everyone take care now.

Happy birthday dot!

metal mouse, in my best umpire voice, yell “Yer out!” :stuck_out_tongue:

Played with colored pencils and gamesol making some cards for mother’s day. This year’s theme is birds.

Howdy Y’all! Been an excitatin’ day here at da cave. Laundry got done, sup got fixed and et, and our absentee ballots came in the mail, so we filled those out and will mail ‘em tomorrow. How do we keep up the pace! This was my first ever absentee ballot. I like it for the convenience but I’ll miss gettin’ my Peachy sticker. I like the sticker. It’s like a reward for doin’ my civic duty. I put it on and wear it all day. Makes me feel special.
