Looks like our rain will be coming in a bit later than originally forecast. Now if I could just get my daughter out of bed to watch her daughter so I can run to the store… “Roxy, go see Mama!!”
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. It’s raining, which means Princess Pretty Paws has not been off the porch this morning. I will drag him off at some point.
Good for scoring the wild garlic, and avoiding The Cloud of Doom[sup][sup]TM[/sup][/sup], Nut.
SCORE!!!
I went to McKay’s and got a whole poke loin at $1.58/lb. For just under $18, I’ve got 4 meals: 2 roasts and a dozen “chops” - WOOHOO! And there was enough space in the freezer, so huzzah! The seafood dept didn’t have shrimp out yet - maybe I’ll go back there tomorrow and try my luck then.
The rain was just starting as I was leaving there. Yay for attached garage - I didn’t have to get wet.
I’ve got a load of shirts in the washer, and apart from figuring out what supper will be, I’m done for the day. Yeah, right.
Morning all. Got out right after rising, did some shopping and with everything I’ve gotten the last couple days, should not need to shop for several weeks. Which means of course that I’ll find something this afternoon I’ve completely forgotten. Did spoil myself by picking up two big bags of Cheese Balls, which I offset by buying tomatoes and two salad bags…I guess that evens things out.
59F outside but the skies are clear and we’re supposed to be in the mid-70’sF on May Day.
Nut, nice thing about modern cars, once you’ve spent a tidy sum as you have, they tend to work well for years afterward (hope I’ve haven’t Murphied your car).
nellie, no problem, just remember to remind me cause me memory ain’t what it used to be (and it was no great shakes before that…)
{{Dot}}. Not a great way to celebrate a birthday, but I’m glad at the end you’re still optomistic. Hang in there and don’t let the b*****ds wear you down.
OK, need to get one of those salad bags out, add bacon bits and celery and croutons to it and dress it with Olive Garden Italian, that should hold me until dinnertime.
All y’all take care.
Much rain continues to fall - 'tis a squishy day!
Supper will be (sorta) salisbury steaks (actually, burger patties cooked in onions with gravy), instant smashed judge-ye-N.O.T.s, and whatever veggies I pull out of the freezer. I think I have some 'maters that I may slice up, too.
Daughter and **FCD **both quit early. He’s napping and she’s got Roxy. So I’m reading. Good, lazy afternoon.
Happy Thursday, friends
Many thanks for birthday wishes <3 it was definitely on the low-key side. I’m not a big birthday person, but I do usually find some way to treat myself. Options are, of course, quite limited now, both due to the world being off kilter and due to my own limitations.
A bunch of people just pulled up on my street. There’s a cemetery on the property and quite a bit of wooded land. We’ve recently had a bit of an issue/non-issue with the neighbors’ teenagers (close enough neighbors that I recognize the dog, far enough away that I wouldn’t recognize the people) making their own trail through the woods and sort of building a hangout. They’ve nailed boards into a tree to climb it and put an old porch swing out there and such. My roommate keeps hysterically calling the landlord about it because she’s sure they’re doing drugs and- I shit you not- Satanic rituals. She took pictures of it- there are some feathers in the swing chain and like… a rock and a stick tied together with string, which to me just suggests they were probably just fiddling with whatever was at hand and making decorations, not summoning demons. But whatever. Girl likes her drama. Anyway, so like… there are at least 8 cars out there and there are trees in between, so I can only sort of see what’s going on, but it’s definitely loads of people going into the cemetery. So I texted my landlord to see if he was aware of anything going on and he said probably a funeral. I would think they ought to give him a heads up before BURYING SOMEONE IN MY YARD, but… if he’s not worried about it, I’m not. Last time I went into the cemetery, though, I want to say the most recent burial was about 2007, so I didn’t realize people were still being buried there. Guess I was wrong.
Well. WalMart is apparently out of the bedding I chose, so that’s a bust. Also peppers, cream cheese, pickles, pineapple, laundry detergent, frozen corn, and the paints and paintbrushes I’ve tried to get for the kid the last three f’in times I’ve made an order. So much for new sheets. I was actually really looking forward to those.
Also, predictably, despite checking and double-checking and reminding and re-double-checking and re-reminding, my roommate forgot that she was supposed to pick up groceries today and told the kid’s dad she would meet him to hand her off, so now I’m texting people trying to find someone who can pick them up. I may have to call WalMart and see how flexible their time windows are and what happens if you don’t show up for your order. I will be rather unamused if I end up having to pay for all of this and can’t get it. This is supposed to feed the three of us for about two weeks. This is ridiculous. I can’t begin to express how much I miss the days when grocery shopping was simple.
Howdy Y’all! I tidied the pantry and made a chikin pot pie. Actually two chikin pot pies, one which we et on today and one for da freezer. There’s enough left of the one we et on today for N.O.L. tomorrow, so yay for that. Speakin’ of treatin’ oneself, or in this case oneselves, we are gettin’ bizkits from Pearly’s (the place of nummy breakin’ the fast) tomorrow mornin’. I found an app and we can order and go pick up. Well, one of will pick up, probably me. YUM! Our favs are the bacon/aig/cheese bizkit and the steak and aig bizkit, so we’re gettin’ two of each. Haven’t had a Pearly’s bizkit in a loooooooooong time so I am excitated.
Dots your roomie couldn’t make time to pick up groceries for all three of you?
BooFae how could you deprive Shadow of all the tuna! Bad mommy!
wiki, congrats on the pitter patter of little feet / paws coming up.
dot, the traffic may be Pagans / wannabe Pagans celebrating Beltane in the woods. Tis the season.
Got EoM pretty much wrapped up. We still need the signatures for taking the thieved inventory out of the system, then we’ll backdate it all come Monday. My reports are ready for tomorrow’s meeting. My manager has been going through camera footage and has spotted some suspicious activity.
This is an issue that pops up every few years. It usually ends with some prosecutions and not renewing the security company’s contract when it’s up. I was in on another one of these things ~12 years ago when memory cards were hot and we came up missing ~$80K worth of the 128gb ones. The cartons of fifty were small enough to go into a cargo pants pocket and wouldn’t set the metal detectors off when going through security. When I started to research it, I checked E-bay and CL out. Lo and behold, there was a vendor on both sites selling them. Loss prevention took over then, set up a sting and busted two employees and a security guard. The bums didn’t even have enough sense to go to the next area code and buy a burner phone for their ads. The phone numbers matched the ones they had on file in HR.
I’ll be starting back to full time at irk next week, so’s tomorrow is my last play day. The new table and chairs should be in, so I’ll be putting that together and taking the old set out to the dumpster.
Stay healthy y’all!
I irked six hours and got the essential stuff done. Weird printer issue. Need to print one excell sheet and the queues automatically is set to print 153 page. This is from a workbook. Never had the problem before. Welcome all advice to fix it.
I got a pleasant surprise. When I checked my paystub today for tomorrow deposit I have full pay and a second one for $125 after tax it’s $86 and some change. I alerted the boss thinking it was a mistake. He said was a bonus incentive for actually showing up for those six hours of 80 last pay period. I will take it. Just weird. Had to order a new office chair since my fairly newish one all of a sudden broke when not being used. much strangeness in my office.
Happy almost weekend. Where is Sari?
Stay distanced.
Made baked fried chicken, with cheddar **N.O.T.**s and corn, black beans, and tomatoes with cumin.
dot, what swampy said. Roomie should have helped out.
Okay. Got someone to pick the groceries up, so I do indeed now have (some of the) groceries.
My roommate is a good, sweet, well-intentioned person and I’m sure she completely believed she would go get the groceries when she said it and didn’t mean to double-book herself. But she’s also flaky in the extreme and it can be very, very destructive and quite difficult to deal with. It’s especially trying now that I have to depend on her (and other people in general) for so many basic things, which is, in and of itself, something I dislike intensely. So I’m probably crabbier about this than I need to be. I’m going to stop there because I’m still irritated with her tonight and don’t want to say things I’ll regret.
Is anyone here NOT a good cook? Your menus make me drool.
Today was a crazy, crazy day. My BIL, who was really at death’s door yesterday, opened his eyes and was amazingly cognizant and coherent, according to the NP. An hour later, he wouldn’t or couldn’t open his mouth for the doc. So she asked my sister AGAIN about feeding him, this time through his PICC line. The NP said his hands are swollen because he’s not getting enough protein and that his brain is “starving.” ??? I thought the swelling was probably because his kidneys are shutting down. And isn’t this what’s supposed to happen when someone has signed a living will and wants comfort measures only?
The guy’s had almost nothing to eat for well over a week. A couple hours after he impressed the NP, my BIL wouldn’t open his mouth for the doc. Or maybe he couldn’t. This is what brought about the feeding thing again. I think they’d do it through the PICC line they put in. The NP said feeding might give him a little burst of energy. The man is 82, has end-stage Alzheimer’s, COVID, and aspiration pneumonia. Why does he need a burst of energy?
But wait, there’s more! My daughter’s husband rushed her to the ER last night in excruciating pain. Sh has kidney stones. They run heavily on my side of the family, though–thank heavens and knock wood–I’ve never had one. She passed it this evening.
swampy, you and OYKW enjoy those breakfast biscuits! They sound yum!
dot, are you going to go back into the cemetery to see if there’s a fresh grave there? Ugh. That sounds like a scene in a horror movie. If you were really mean–and thank heavens you’re not–you could make a pentagon in the yard out of pinecones or something and then feign innocence.
Hope you get sheets you like soon!
red, I’d be tied up in knots if I had your job.
Bet that’s it. Beltane is May 1st.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 (BRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 78 and N.O.S. for the day. Outside of goin’ to get bizkits in a little while (need to order and want to wait until daylight to go get), no biggie plans for the day. Jawja’s shelter in place order expired at midnight. Not a smart move IMHO. We shall see.
In other news, Happy May Day Y’all! Shall we all dance around a flag pole?
Now I need more caffeine and then I suppose I should purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire to go get bizkits. The sacrifices I make!
Happy Firday Y’all!
I had a good sleep, even tho I didn’t sleep with Mel. Did wake early, but not ridiculously so, and I pulled out my tablet to read. At one point, I thought I heard Roxy leaving her room, and I grabbed my robe and got up.
Nope, she’s still asleep. Or she went into her Mama’s room. Either way, I was up, so I tended to the critters and had breakfast. The ice maker is going again - we go thru a lot of ice in this household! Fortunately, my countertop machine will fill the freezer bin in about 4 hours, unlike the now-broken built-in ice maker.
Rainy morning again, but we might see sun tomorrow. Maybe. Who knows?
Happy May 1th!!!
Friday! I spent the last two days testing fire alarms in a pretty large hotel that was virtually empty. Even though I am out working every day, I don’t think I would be up to traveling and spending time in a hotel room just now. We were able to get quite a bit done because most of the hotel was just closed off.
Stay safe everyone
Happy Friday, mumpers! It’s another cool day over here and there is an ominously black cloud over us at the moment so I am expecting a downpour at any moment. Fortunately, I am not planning to go anywhere.
My favourite singer in the whole entire world did a 2hr acoustic performance from his living room last night, I’m re-watching it on his youtube channel today, just 'cos I can. I’ve ordered a couple of CDs online, and booked four of us in for a rock festival in December. Well, assuming it takes place, but they’ll reschedule it if not. We are going, eventually, and that’s what matters.
Irk this morning, I am transferring a bunch of info from various sources to a spreadsheet. Sadly my access to our shared drive through my remote desktop wossname is patchy at best. Good thing I copied the important folder of stuff to a USB yesterday in the few minutes I could actually get into the folder I needed. Probably don’t need it, but if I don’t have all that info to hand, there will be some massive kerfuffle this afternoon about it.
It’s nearly the weekend though, and that means Friday night cocktails in our house! Woot!
She hasn’t been on FB for about a week. I sent her a message… We shall see.
Meanwhile, the rain and dreary continues. Roxy is entertaining herself with a flashlight. I’m starting to feel cabin fever for the first time during this plague…
{{{Nellie and kin}}}
Up, sheveled, caffeinating, breakfasted and giving the dog little pinches of cheese (he begs, what can I say?). In another hour, I’ll log into the Zoom meeting. I look for it to last ~1 hour. After that, the new table and chairs will likely be here, so I’ll put them together. I need to swing through the market for stuff to pack lunches, given that the plans have changed. I’ll go by the dog park on the way home and if it isn’t crowded, I’ll take Nelson for some playtime.
Stay healthy y’all!
