Thanks guys for the help identifying. Whether they are Hollyhocks or not I won’t know because I dug them out. Large root systems that were a heck of a lot of trouble to get out and they were right against the house, heck they were blocking the basement windows!
I plan to keep the blanket flowers though. Those are pretty, I just need to dig out that area because it’s pretty much all grass, weeds and rocks along the fence line where it looks like someone once had a garden (more weeds and rocks than grass).
I am certain they are raspberries because we used to pick them all the time and my friend’s who live next door watched as the former people who lived here took them out and were told they were raspberries. Honestly… I don’t think I’ve ever seen a blackberry outside of a grocery store here…
I’m all sore and cranky today from the gardening the other day and I still have to get into the raspberries/back area to get the weeds and grass out as well as mow. I’m a taad bit behind on that. Hopefully the weather is nice enough tomorrow I can borrow my friend’s lawnmower and go at her…
Flight reservations have been made. It’s real now. We’re going to Hawaii. Unfortunately, the kids can’t come along, but on the other hand, they’ll be here with the dog and taking care of the house. My daughter is an adult and my son isn’t far behind.
We couldn’t get on the same flight as our friends because it was full, except for first class, which I can’t afford.
Now, if only those wacky Europeans* would get it through their untied cultural head that, yes, it gets freaking hot in the summer even in their countries, summer vacations would be a lot more enjoyable!
Yes, all Europeans are wacky. **Nava **and **BooFae **are my cite!
Gosh, Tuesday and we already know who’s starting next week’s MMP? Are we trying to get organized, streamlining our processes for a better synergy between the different workstreams or sumthin’?
As y’all know (and if you don’t, you need to spend more time with little kids), little kids still haven’t figured out the world is bigger than their heads so they spend all their waking hours trying to make sense of it. This leads to the creation of the first mental pigeonholes. Add parents who do their best to paint the world in black and white… and you get the look in The Nephew’s face when last spring he asked where had a leaf on the floor come from and I said it had fallen from a tree.
“But it can’t have, leaves fall in autumn, it’s spring.”
“Leaves fall all year round, they just fall more in autumn. Some trees, but not all, lose aaaaaall their leaves in autumn. That one and that one” (no idea what are the English names for a falso plátano and a castaño de Indias) “will, but that pine tree won’t. And all trees lose some leaves all year round.”
He sort’a believed me because so far I’ve never lied to him, but the other day over the phone he told me he’d seen a leaf fall from a tree “and it’s summer!” I think it’s great that he’ll accept what I say on grounds of me being a trustworthy person and all, but even better that he’ll take it with a grain of salt and verify things when possible. His parents don’t know what they’re doing, with all that dogmatism… any time the kidlet finds an exception to something they say, it’s a time they lose ground with him.
Aleph, why should my head be tied? Wouldn’t that be terribly uncomfortable?
I’ve been bad about following along. As I mentioned, my laptop is dead and I’m borrowing TVMan’s. Unfortunately when he upgraded his system from XP to XP Pro it has made the laptop very slow and it now needs more memory. For instance, I timed it and it took more than 5 minutes to load my home page.
So… TVMan was VERY sweet and found some new memory on eBay and it will be here later this week! :D. As of right now I’ll be sticking with my phone and only using the laptop when needed.
Ok, I guess I need to get ready to head back home. It’s weird being here on a Tuesday morning (after having come back for his birthday).
Morning all, happy Tuesday morning. And CutiePie is up early too.
After missing my Friday session at the pool, I’m jumping back on the bandwagon this afternoon and will try to do a bit more water walking today. Hope you’re feeling better today, Rosie. Yay for Taters and her Mister going to Hawaii! LOL I’m afraid the only way I’d get there is by boat. But hey, I’ve thought of that … cruise ship from San Francisco, but I’ll bet that would cost an arm and a leg. Ah well, maybe some day.
I’m still in the caffeination process here, so will be back later. Ta ta.
Once I’ve been awake for a bit, and the morning coughing fit is over, and my ear stops hurting, I’m sure I’ll feel lots better.
Doc said I could go back to work tomorrow, since my system will be antibioticized, but if I have another morning like today - ain’t no way I’m leaving the house
taters, I am green with envy. Where in Hawaii are you going?
Had to call the hospital this morning so they could charge me $150 (amount not covered by my insurance) for the MRI that will most likely show nothing. ::grumble, grumble::
I see alla y’all up nawth are steaming. Flawduh, on the other hand, is enjoying some milder weather thanks to Claudette, the hurricane that wasn’t. Anyway, hang in there. Your teeth will be chattering all too soon.
The damned air conditioning is still broken! My boss sent everyone home right after I left, so I don’t have to use personal leave. Yay! I’ll take this afternoon off too, if they don’t get it fixed. The rumor is they’re waiting on a part.
Pst, people, wake up, we’re almost off the first page…
I thought of you Sunday, palebunny: there was a family in front of me in the queue for customs, and the father was short, but the mother and three adult children were just XS, except for an XXS daughter.
Look, I know times are tough for the auto industry, but honestly? My daughter’s car needs her coolant system addressed; she doesn’t need new tires. The Mini has a whopping 15,000 miles on it–almost all of it city driving. :dubious: And again :dubious:
Thing is, the coolant, the oil and the sunroof broken latch are all under warranty and therefore free. The tires, not so much. And not even a suggestion to rotate and balance but outright replace! :dubious: I hate car people who prey on females.
In other news, we are suffering from a fruit fly infestation. Never a dull moment around here. Since it’s decided to be putrid outdoors (hot, humid and no breeze), I am destined to clean and disinfect several garbage cans. Envy me. But first some lunch. Oh, and we just spent $100 on school supplies–for ONE kid. And that was with a coupon. Grrrrr.
ETA: Noonie probably meant united head that it gets HOT in Europe in the summer. Maybe. Who knows? Maybe the heat has fried his brain!
Year ago, when I still had the 1980 Jetta, I had the world’s worst luck with tires. Seems someone was always doing renovations in my neighborhood, so wood splinters, stray nails, & other sharp bits that escaped the dumpsters were all in love with my tires. Usually they were slow leaks. I was a mall, indulging in retail therapy, came out to my car and noticed one tire was completely flat, So I drove the quarter mile to the service station and told the guy “I may have shredded the inside of the treads by driving on rims - I don’t know how long I’ve had that flat - it should probably be replaced”
Patronizingly, he said “I’m sure we can fix it - patch it up” the unspoken “there, there, little lady” came through loud and clear. 45 minutes later, he came out to tell me the tire had to be replaced because I’d shredded the inside of the treads.
The reason I knew very little about cars has nothing to do with my gender, simply my lack of desire to learn. These days, though, my extremely trustworthy mechanic takes the time to explain things with diagrams and photos. So I know more now, but not enough to do any repairs myself - more theory than practice.
