Well, the van snarfed down almost $900 - a perfect end to a shitty day. About noon, I got pulled off the #1 priority task to do a (wait for it) #1 priority task that has to be done by noon on Thursday. And the scope has changed to something that plain and simple can NOT be done. I’m not an expert in my field by any stretch, but I know enough based on common sense to tell him that he can’t get the kind of answer he wants from me. He’ll get what he gets, which is more than anyone deserves. The whole project is stupid. Grrrrrrr.
**FCD **doesn’t want to eat - they had a pot luck thing at his work and I guess he ate too much. So I told daughter she can graze for herself. I’ve got a big batch of sketty sauce simmering - it’ll be bagged and frozen before I go to bed. I also mixed up a mess o’batter for raisin bran muffins - I may try a half dozen in the toaster oven…
Other than that, it’ll be a nothing night. Maybe some knitting. I need something to help me chill out after my crappy day.
This is me. I don’t HAVE to know about cars, or don’t think that I should have to. And I used to have an honest mechanic–now I just buy disposable cars. If I were to do my life over again, I’d be a female mechanic who catered to women.
There is finally a decent breeze - but all that means is that tomorrow will be a rainy mess - and I was planning on returning to work (note the subjunctive past tense)
Hey everybody! I’m been hanging out all day, did the Booster Club minutes, and recycled. I’m having a martini now, and am about to fire up the grill for a little tailgating practice. Gordie likes martinis, too.
FCM, sorry it’s a shitty day. Maybe if you put TVCTPMO on The List, it would run and hide?
rosie, I know about cars, but I have zero mechanical aptitude. Of course softwarewise, I’ve always been Alpha Geek.
Rebo, maybe if you stripped nekkid, they’d get the point?
Whee! So sorry that so many have had shitty days. {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}} all around and sending good thoughts out too.
I made it back to the pool today and walked and stretched for about an hour or so, sat in the hot tub about 10 minutes. We’re having Safeway meatloaf for supper
Bbbbbobbio, you made me laugh out loud at work today when I read about Ellie May! That girl did love them critters.
I am pooped, my knees are aching, but I’m feeling good emotionally. And tonight brings back “Flipping Out” on Bravo, with Monkey and Stewie the cats! LOL
Hope you feel better FCM. Crappy days are… well, crappy.
Eleanor That is why I am SO glad to have my friend and her husband. First off, when we went car shopping I did a ton of research and then he took us both around to look at cars for me.
He also keeps an eye on my car (or rather, if something is weird or making a funny noise I can call him up and go HELP! What IS this?!). Stuff like “Why does it sound like a card in the spokes in my wheel well?” Answer, rock stuck in the treads. Or “What is this grinding noise?” Answer CV boot went, need a new one. (It was original to the car, which is a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix STE so I guess it was time :p). Newest question “What’s this leak?” Answer, steering fluid but it’s a slow leak. Will need to be fixed but not asap. So now I’m hunting for a new mechanic because the one we all used to go to is no longer open. I got a couple recommendations though, need to call tomorrow. I already found out Canadian Tire will cost me about $300.
I’d be utterly lost and an easy mark for a horrid mechanic otherwise. sighs My brother is the car guy but he lives in another city, when he’s not out of province working.
Now I need to go borrow the mower, mow the lawn and maybe do some knitting afterwards…
Good evening all! I got home late, went off to buy some ibuprofen, have been surfing, watching a few video-podcasts and thought I’d stop in and say hi.
Have fun on vacation, snowbunny! And hugs to the Tigses, of course.
'Fraid I retained almost nothing.
Need to crawl into bed and get a reasonable amount of sleep.
VunderKind comes tomorrow. This has me so happy that I might not even kill the cat that’s been shitting all over Inner Manland.
I have my home PC working to the point that the pictures of the Teh Puppehs have been off-loaded from the camera, but I haven’t got my lazy ass in gear yet to get them in Photobucket. Puggy will have to suffer another day.
I wish VWife looked that good wearing cutoffs.
Ug. Gotta go make The Company their profit for today. Don Wanna is getting in the way, though.
Happy Hump Day! Yeah, say what you want … we’re over the hump when this day is over … well, at least those of us who work Monday-Friday that is.
Yay for Rebo’s work a/c being fixed! You know, if it’s cold you can always layer up and keep warm that way, but when it’s hot, there’s only so much you can (decently, at work) remove!
BBBBBobbio, I’m assuming that V-Wife doesn’t surf the Dope? At any rate, enjoy your visit with your son, starting tomorrow. Also, don’t tell her, but I think my cousin is going to ship one of her critters (kitty) to the Norfolk (no-kill) shelter – kitty keeps peeing everywhere! I definitely wouldn’t want you to be fostering her.
Turns out that one of my (little) toes may be ingrown. It’s hurting too! I just sent an email to my doctor, we’ll see what she says. In the mean time, I’m trying to treat it at home.
Morning. The Don Wannas seem to have stopped here as well.
We had a newish neighbor over for dinner on Monday, which was great. She’s very fun and outgoing. I’m glad we finally seem to have some neighborly neighbors. Then last night the other neighbors that we’ve started to get to know stopped by to set up a game of Risk for next week. So we’re starting to feel like we have a community, which is really nice.
Below is a *really *good hot potato salad recipe that I’ve made twice in the last two weeks. It’s kind of like German potato salad, but less vinegar-y.
Hot potato salad
Some new potatoes, peeled and cubed (maybe a lb… I just use whatever looks good to make ~3-4 servings)
1 1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1 1/2 skinless, boneless chicken breast (leftovers are good for this or poach the chicken)
3 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
1/4 cup diced celery (optional… I didn’t have any last night when I made this for the 2nd time, and it was fine without it)
1 diced onion
1 clove garlic, minced (or powdered garlic works fine)
1/2 cup mayonnaise (also known as “some”… I don’t measure it or the vinegar or the mustard or the paprika)
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 teaspoons dijon mustard
1 tablespoon paprika
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 fresh sage leaves, chopped (If you don’t have fresh lurking in your garden, I’d leave this out. I don’t think dried would be very good in this.)
Toss the potatoes with oil, salt, and pepper and roast in a 400 degree oven until they’re soft and turning brown on the outside, maybe 20-30 min depending on size. (Remember that they’re going into potato salad, so cut them up bite-sized first. Plus, this makes the cooking go a lot faster.)
Cook the bacon. Cook the onions in the bacon drippings. (This wasn’t in the original recipe, but I don’t like raw onions, and onions cooked in ~1 tbsp of the bacon fat are scrumptious.) Add the garlic for ~1 min if you’re using raw garlic. Otherwise, just add the powdered stuff to the dressing below.
Cut up the cooked chicken. Combine all of the dressing ingredients and toss with the potatoes, chicken, celery, bacon and onions. Serve hot or cold, but I like it hot.
I don’t know that the chicken is strictly necessary, but it makes a nice main dish if you add the chicken and works well with a cole slaw as the side dish to round out a good summery dinner.
The original recipe was from Sunny Anderson and can be found on the Food Network’s website by searching for Picnic Potato and Chicken Salad Cups.
Evening all. Hugs all round for people suffering from crappy days, weeks, months.
Today was awful, for no reason other than the heat index hit 52C/125F! I ‘s been stayin’ inside all day long!!! And then, either Friday or Saturday, Ramadan (that holiest of months, when everyone is restrained and the Islamic equivalent of pious - NOT) will start and I will get to spend most evenings having to eat and spend time with MIL and co. Oh joy! [insert sarcastic smiley here]
