Another reasonable heave. I fear the worst.
both of them … ive discovered teen girls can eat just as much as boys …
I can verify. Beamer eats a LOT of food. He’s like the hungry caterpillar.
Is this a sign of the end times?
The appraisal on the new house came back about $45K less than the purchase price. We were hoping to put that money into a patio, but it looks like no patio for awhile. It could be worse of course. We could have lost the loan (eek).
Since Tuesday I’m back in my normal time zone. Well, physically. My brain’s not too sure about it.
Glad to have gotten out between Fiona and Ian. Rode out Sandy 10 years ago (my, how time flies), and don’t want to repeat that.
We had a small squall near us in NJ/PA border area and lost power Sunday night due to a tree falling on a line, and breaking a pole. Electric company set up a diesel generator, put in a new pole and restored power by mid-morning. Which was good, but the generator and worker noise meant less sleep. Follow that with an overnight flight, and I’m surprised I’m still awake.
It’s been raining all day and the river beds are full. I hope this means we’ll get some snow and build back the glaciers over the winter.
Not that I’m looking forward to the cold. I just would like the weather to be a bit more normal.
Serendipity to the rescue! Months ago, I made an appointment for a regular exam with my old corneal specialist, we’ll call him Dr. X, for October 4th. I assumed it’d be canceled, since retinal guy said that Dr. X was restricting his practice to LASIK patients. It wasn’t canceled, and the clinic tells me Dr. X is still seeing patients who’d already scheduled appointments. SO I’ll go for the appointment and talk to him about the surgery the new guy wants to do. Then I can get Dr. X’s opinion and maybe even get them to talk to each other directly. Whew!
It’s very cloudy and sullen and looks like it wants to rain, so rain, dammit! Everyone here is sick of drought.
I have many young docs. It’s hard to avoid talking to them like they’re the high school students I had so many years: “I think it’s time I had a little talk with your parents.”
Butters, hope you come through safe and sound.
I read that as “Annaheim poppers.” Now those would pop!
JTC, Holy frick, that’s gorgeous. I’ve said before that my daughter has a Nebelung that looks a lot like GG. Her cat gets the flying zoomies wherein he races around but doesn’t touch the floor because he jumps from one piece of furniture to the next. Does GG ever do that? Her other cat doesn’t, so I’ve wondered if it’s just typical of big, beautiful critters that are more fluff than IQ.
I see what you did there.
I’m impressed that your subconscious knew what day of the week it is IRL! And hey, doesn’t take ol’ Uncle Sigmund to see that you’d naturally like to resign from all the in-laws stuff. No idea why the part about not doing a good job part. Your subconscious is a tough taskmaster!
And yay, Tobias is about to start walking! I wonder if he’ll cruise first or go right for walking. I love that toddler waddle!
Um, you ARE a real cheesemaker.
Hey, has anyone heard from wordy? It’s been awhile since she posted, and I’m concerned.
So great for that second opinion from someone you trust!
I’m behind on stuff. But I’m here. And alive. Go me.
Sums it up for me, too. Got a couple of things I’ve got to get done, back permitting (turns out I have some arthritis in my spine, I’ve been referred to physical therapy for that).
PCP expressed some dissatisfaction with reports from cardiology and told me she was going to follow up with them. She felt there should have been more of an explanation for observed symptoms and was not delighted with an omission in medication instructions (apparently I should have continued the metoprolol to lower my heart rate for a while, then more gradually discontinued it. She did NOT like my heart rate today).
Did go ahead with the third Covid booster, since the doctor said that should be fine. Papa Murphy will be catering tonight (reminds me, must place order soon). Got the same nurse I passed out on in August. She remembered me, too. We joked about our last visit.
I’m home now, not thrilled with how low my heat tolerance is these days. I should NOT have been that hot or gotten that sweaty with outdoor temps in the low 70s!
Plus side: the number on the scale keeps trending down.
Afternoon all. Just got back from swimmin-n-sauna, now have cash in my pocket and a fairly large hole in my account due to property tax (no line whatsoever, walked right in and got it taken care of). Dishes are washing and towels and swimsuit are in the dryer, but nothing much planned for the evening, so slothage it will be.
Nettie, my number today was about 0.8lbs more than Moandays, I blame a large lunch and the scale, more or less in that order. But Monday is my day of record, so I have some time to work it off.
Nellie, glad you get to see “Old Doc”, perhaps he can allay your concerns.
Butters, stay safe.
OK, need to get some Pepsi on ice in me (for medicinal purposes, of course…
).
Happy Wet Nest Day everybody.
Hope everyone in the path of that hurricane stays safe and dry.
I took a load of cardboard and glass to the recycling place this morning and when I got back we walked to the farmers market in the park and got some local corn, peaches, and locally baked bread. Then trekked to the post office and to the store to get some lunch.
Now we’re home.
I said I’d show you a pic of our new doors. They aren’t painted yet. Wifey still has to pick the color(s)l
Ignore the scraps of wood, etc. It’ll get sorted. Eventually.
Metal Mouse, The daughter unit drinks Pepsi with rum in it.
At least it’s halfway decent rum. Bacardi tastes like airplane glue smells, to me.
Later
By cruise, do you mean holding on from one piece of furniture to another? Because he’s doing that. He’s getting better at walking holding only one hand, tho he prefers to hold 2 - we’re trying to get him to work on his balance. I fear he’s going to go directly to sprinting!
That’s great, tho it’d also be great if we had a zombie in the MMP…
I weigh first thing in the morning, nekkid. I feel like it gives me a known baseline. But I can’t blame the number on those jeans that obviously weigh 10#!!!
Nice doors, Bumba!
The kids have been returned. Supper was steak, instant smashed spuds, peas-n-carrots, and one of the last 'maters of the season. < sob> Chillage is on the evening’s agenda.
cookie, have you considered using some of your apples for pork chops with apples and onions (one of my dad’s favorites in the autumn)?
floaty gimpy, just wait until you have to dig someone out
JtC, your sampler is beautiful! Nelson is a fairly small guy at 17# and change.
VanGo, rat terriers (terriers in general) would likely help with the squirrel problem. Nelson is ~1/4 rat terrier and ~1/4 Yorkie and has the drive. Given his ancestry (the other parts are corgi and chihuahua), he would have been a working farm dog keeping rodents out of the barn and corn crib back in the day. As it stands, he’ll always have a job as a companion.
Hope that all of our Florida Mumpers stay out of harm’s way.
Did a lot of prep irk for 5S today. The supes who are in charge of it in my department have recalled that I have a good grasp of the English language, e-mail writing and MS Office, so I’ve taken a lot of notes, transcribed them and built the distro for the project. Been a bit since I’ve played ariound with that.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Bumba Nice doors. That’s an interesting bit of architecture/landscaping. Did it used to be a garage or maybe a horse wagon entry? Or just a place to park the riding mower?
Still no word on my big month long gig. Kinda frustrating. Got the little one to work on in the meantime. I know I could crank it out in 2 weeks, but I donwanna do 10-12 hour days, 7 days a week.
You definitely need to charge the rush fee for the hassle they’re causing you. Also consider letting them know that further delays will raise that fee for the greater pressure on you.
Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions, napped, day drank, slothed some more, fixed and et sup and cleanded up the kitchen, and now we sloth some more. It’s windy outside but the temp is nice. So nice in fact that da cave windows have been opened all day. Looks like we won’t be gettin’ rain from Ian, but it will be windy over the next three days.
Have a good night y’all!
Browsing a Hurricane Ian thread I just ran across this thought:
When my daughter was 7 years-old she once interrupted a bedtime story to tell me, “In a pie-eating contest, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose because you get to eat pie.”
Evening all. Since I got money from the bank today, I decided to spend some of it and went to Whalburgers for dinner. A bit pricey, but they do make a good burger and fries. Home now and when I checked the mail, sure enough, the ‘official’ bill for my property tax was enclosed (I used a printout from on-line to provide the info to the tax folks). Timing is everything…
VanGo, have crossed all appropriate appendages for good news; if you haven’t heard by next week, I’ll start crossing the inappropriate ones…
Bumba, no idea what to paint the doors in that color scheme, I’d say something brown, but Wifey will choose well, I’m sure.
OK, it’s getting late, so a little more internettin’ and then finish my readin’ (if I can find the paperback, I suspect I may have left it at the tax collector…
It was a dirt floor basement full of firewood and misc. crap. However, the great-great grandson of the guy who built it said his grandma used to have a wood stove down there and cooked on it. There were actually doors, of a sort, in the opening, but they were falling apart, literally. Every time we opened them something fell off. The first thing we did to the house was have a concrete floor poured so that we could keep our misc. crap down there. (no firewood though.)
Wifey has decided on a dark blue-green called Moscow Midnight by Sherwin Williams. If we don’t like it we can repaint it later.
Maybe Gordie is a service dog and you stopped snoring and he thought you had stopped breathing and his barking is the only reason you are still alive! Gordie the Hero!!!
(Did you notice that I suggested using FedEx for the cougar poop? It’s not that I don’t want to support UPS, its because someone I like asked that I never ship poop by UPS. )
Thank you and to everyone else who posted compliments. That’s the piece from the seminar we were at in July. I’ve run out of wall room for framed pieces and have a stack of finished work in a drawer.
When I see you post, hippy, I think of quilts and have suddenly had a idea. I can sew my pieces onto a strong piece of fabric as they fit and use a quilt bar to hang them on the wall. I do these things because I think they are pretty, it seems a shame to toss them in a drawer and forget about them.
How are your classes going? Are you learning all sorts of neato stuff and techniques? Learning things I want to learn makes my brain feel good.
I’ve been checking on things out that way, stay safe!
That bites. I’ve been hearing about all sorts of house buying problems in the last year, so feel bad but don’t feel alone.
GG would love to play The Floor is Lava but VBC is a party pooper pudgebutt and insists on playing on the floor. He has learned to use the lattice walls in the catio as a climbing wall which is entertaining.
When we were at the fancy pet food place, we bought GG a little rabbit fur ball. GG thought it was great and played with it all over the place. Tonight he carried it into my stitching room, saw that VBC hadn’t eaten all of her gooshy fud so dropped the fur, gobbled the fud and grabbed the fur again. The look on his face when he realized that fud covered fur was icky was pretty funny.
Huh, never thought about it that way, I still cannot make a cheddar. I AM, however, a professional cheesemaker so that’s gotta count for something!
What is going on with your thyroid? I’m only asking because when my meds need adjusting, I can always tell by how too hot or too cold I am.
That is a nice strong color, I think it will suit very well in that area. It will accent the plants you are surely going to put along the wall where the scrap wood is.
So, today was produce day. I’m always sorry when summer is over because I love stone fruit so much and pretty much used everything they gave us. Now most of our box will be given away, but that will fill the purpose of not throwing good food into the landfill.
I took my sampler with me to show off and got many compliments.
I got lunch from the Donut Hole Mexican place and it was somewhat unusual. The chicken street taco had nice spices and was over loaded with meat, the been and cheese burrito was big enough to share but had a little smear of beans and the rest was cheese. Cold cheese. Enough cold cheese to make the beans and tortilla cold.
I don’t think that’s been checked. Apparently, PCP hasn’t thought it might be relevant. I’ll ask her about that sometime soon.
ETA: digging into my test history, as of June thyroid stimulating hormone was in range (1.7), albeit toward the lower side of range (0.4-4.5)
