Survived Ian with no damage except some plants that I will work on when it calms all the way down. My cell phone is out but I never lost power. We wound up with about 6 inches of rain. I did something to my shoulder so am in pain with that. Always something. I just came inside to take a nap.
It’s under-doctored and under-staffed. I’ve talked to friends and family in various other states, and though PCP’s seem to be in short supply everywhere, nobody has as much trouble getting appointments as my friends and family and I in WA do.
The pandemic didn’t help, but really, it was a mess even before that. It took two months between my initial doctor’s appointment and surgery for breast cancer. A friend in Wyoming later got the same diagnosis and all the same tests and appointments and had surgery within two weeks. A friend in Florida had surgery within one week of a cancer diagnosis, and she had all kinds of tests. Meanwhile, a friend here severely injured her kneecap–It was displaced and cracked in two–and was sent home from the ER with instructions to call an ortho doc. It took her a week to get an appointment and another week to get surgery. She lives alone in a third-floor walk-up.
I have to travel 60 miles to see my rheumatologist and dermatologist: none of the ones here are taking new patients.
A friend theorizes that it’s the rapid population growth here.
Mrs W has family in Florida. On the ocean side, so they didn’t get hit as hard as the gulf coast. Everybody is fine. One of her cousins had some minor flooding; hopefully there’s not too much damage.
So far I have been sewing these block from established patterns and full instructions on how to cut the individual pieces and assemble them. These are very clear on how much seam allowance is needed to arrive at the finished piece size. I found a picture of a quilt block online. I really like it and I am going to try to work out the seam allowance cut sizes on my own and assemble it.
Huzzah!! That’s no small blessing, for sure! Glad you were mostly unscathed!
Hippie - that’s a really neat pattern! I like it muchly!!
The kidlets have both been shot. Tobias ran a fever, but tylenol, then ibuprofen, took care of it. When we went to the playground this afternoon, he was toddling all over the place as fast as he could drag me along!
While we were there, FCD went to our electric co-op and set up his parents’ apartment on our account to avoid paying another account set-up fee. Which is no biggie, since we manage all their payments anyway.
We stopped for an early supper at Salsa’s, so now it’s time for chillage. We’re going to leave on Sat morning, so when I take the kids home tomorrow afternoon, Higgs will go with us and stay behind when I come home. We’ll have the car all packed on Firday evening, then grab a quick shower, dress, and hit the road in the dark of Sat morning. We figure by the time we get south of Richmond, we’ll be out of the rain.
Howdy Y’all! Got my ‘script and accomplished a couple of errands. Go Me! I also got OYKW and myself scheduled to get jabbed tomorrow mornin’. That means havin’ to go about the great unwashed yet again. The things I do for my health and well-bein’! Other than that high sloth prevailed except for the cookin’ and eatin’ of sup. OYKW cleanded up afterwards. Chillage now ensues.
BooFae happy doperversary!
Nellie I cook peas, butterbeans and okra together. The okra goes in last as it does not take long to cook, plus it’s a little more crunchy and less slimy that way.
Butters glad you survived Ian. Hope the shoulder feels better soonest.
MOOOOOOM glad the Tobester got all better and could get his shot. Good for him for makin’ sure you get your exercise.
awww one day ill have to remember I owe ours 10 dollars …I quit going to ours after budget cuts only left it open 4 hours a day 3 days a week well I didn’t know that and walked to it in 115-degree weather one summer on a day it wasn’t open so I swore id never go back until it was open full time
that was about 15 years ago and it’s even moved since then ,
They are tearing down our main library. The books are moving to a leased space temporarily. The main library will be relocated in a new building pretty close to where I live and the branch library near me will be closed and torn down. Before I retired I did the fire alarm service for all city buildings, the libraries included and both of the buildings being demolished were in drastic need of major renovation.
The land where the main library is now has been sold to a very large insurance company (they are famous for nature videos) and will be a fifty plus story office tower.
It’s a beautiful day here in no. Illinois. Went to yoga, then the chiro. Home for a nap, then the barn. Ariel’s nose is sunburned. Why at the end of September?
I’m really glad libraries are still a thing. You never know these days.
I’m about to head to my last Giants game as a San Francisco resident. Got a good deal on some nice club level seats and I’m meeting a buddy of mine for beers and burgers beforehand.
Walked a little over 7 miles today. SO worth it to see the salmon! I know a lot of you have surely seen them, but it’s new to me. Every time one tried to swim up the falls, I gasped. Simply spectacular.
Home and ready to chill. VERY happy for Ms. Roxy! She must feel so grown up! How many books did she check out today? I’ve always said if I come back as a ghost, I want to haunt a library. Maybe the Library of Congress because it’s so gorgeous–if I get to haunt the storage facilities, too.
And here’s a little story for you. Some years back, I got a fellowship at the Library of Congress and got to see documents that aren’t on public display, including a diagram George Washington drew of the vegetable garden at Mount Vernon. It was pristine and precise, of course, but only one bed was labeled: beets. I’ve been wondering ever since why he never got around to labeling the other rows; or if Martha had been on him to make sure beets got planted, and he thought, “This was show her”; or if he simply loved beets.
Watching hockey and handegg. And since the hockey game is in Miami, it’s all the old people playing on both teams.
My phone got 2 calls from the 301 area code, Maryland. < squints at Mooooommmmm >
{{{{gentle hugs}}}} But glad you survived.
First books checked out: The Necornomicon, Principles of Cyborg Engineering, The Cat In The Hat
That was scary about the house, the pitties and the kids with bats sari.
I’m glad that the kitten is getting vet care and is settling in yank.
Thank goodness you came out OK in the storm butters.
I like that last block hippy. It’s pretty similar to a pattern I’ve done in paper using up scraps.
Glad that Tobias was able to get boosted Mooooooom. RoxStar is a big girl now that she has her own library card.
Finished training my trainee this morning, then helped her wrap up a project she wanted to finish before she goes on vacation next week. The remainder of the afternoon, I irked at the old lady table.
After irk, I took Nelson with me to get the tires aired up (the cold snap this week triggered the low tire light), then on to the dog park. He got to hang out with his border collie buds Bandit, Remy and Milo, Jersey and a new Pekinese mix named Brando. Much fun was had by all and I had a good visit with some of the humans.
Before we left, my neighbor whose apartment backs up to mine came around the corner asking if I would like to have some pancetta. Ummmmmm…yeah! Her sister had ordered a Hello Fresh box for her and pancetta was included for the sauce, but she doesn’t eat pork. My benefit!
Went to the dentist two weeks ago because I’m having trouble with my implant. The dentist was concerned about a white spot on my tongue. I went back Wednesday for a cleaning, and was referred to an oral surgeon for a biopsy. I went to the oral surgeon today, and he said he wasn’t concerned. The white streaks were on a line where my teeth meet, and he said it’s probably due to my clenching and grinding. *whew*
Next, I need to schedule with the periodontist for a deep cleaning and a look at the implant.
Evening all. Pedaled 750 calories off and promptly put them back on with a home-cooked Cheeburger. At least I use fat-free cheese… Soccer has been coached and we start about 5:30 and these days by 6:30pm we’re running out of light. Another couple of weeks and it might not be worth practicing, except days when we have a lighted field.
Watching tackleball on Amazon Prime, didn’t even know I could do that, still getting used to this century, I guess.
red, my tires are showing 32-33psi, my light doesn’t go on until it hit 30, but probably should add some air anyway. Normal is 36psi.
FCM, I am happy to hear Roxy has her first library card; may she have one for as long as possible (I still have one for the local library).
Speaking of which, they built a new library building here several years ago not far from the old library, which is a pre-school now. Nice place, don’t use it that much because I have more than enough books of my own.
Wheelie, have good memories from the game!
OK, off to do internettin’ and see if Tua is OK (spoiler–he ain’t!). All y’all take care.
