Let's all have a good week in the MMP

Our library has a huge digital collection, so I don’t even have to leave the house to get books. It’s gotten to where I’m annoyed if I have to read a dead tree version - especially if the book mentions something I want to look up. It’s so easy on the tablet to highlight and search Google! And yet I still have shelves full of books…

I don’t know, but my daughter sent me a pic of one of them, so at least one!

Nope - she owns this one. It was her mom’s… And I didn’t call you - I’m all modern and stuff so I’d have texted!! :stuck_out_tongue:

When I took the kids to the playground yesterday, I let Roxy run on ahead, and by the time I got there with Tobias, she was in a swing and had introduced herself and managed to get a woman there to push her swing! When I got to that swingset, she introduced me to her new “best friend”! Very social, my granddaughter…

Our old library became the headquarters for the county Board of Elections. Makes it convenient to drop off mail-in ballots!

OK, last day at home for a week. Absolutely NOT looking forward to this trek, specifically, the return home. I’ve never been alone with my in-laws for any extended period of time, and I’ll have them at least a week. And FIL’s dementia is getting worse - the stress of the impending move, then an overnight in a motel, and staying in our house till their furniture is set up in the apartment - it’s going to be rough on him. I hope FCD and his brother pack up and get out of Ocala in record time.

[end of selfish whiny rant]

Happy Firday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and N.O.S. for the day. The weather has been uber nice the past few days. Really have enjoyed bein’ able to open up da cave windows. The big item on today’s agenda is gettin’ our arms poked. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy. Speakin’ of which, shades okra is the pod of God and shall not be dissed. I have spoken.

MOOOOOOM yay for RoxStar and her liberry card! A local liberry was within walkin’ distance of where I grew up. The Summer readin’ club was a big deal. When I was ten, I was Book King (the boy who read the most books). Got my pitcher in the paper even! Here’s to the beginnin’ of what I hope is a lifelong love of liberries for RoxStar.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of all bothers, I suppose I must, once again, purtify and don clothin’ acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. This is becomin’ an occurrence all to often for my likin’. HARRUMPH!

Happy Firday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! It’s 11c/52f with a predicted high of 14c/56f and cloudy. Weather app says “This is marathon weather. Except running fucking sucks”. I’d agree with that, running makes my heels hurt and so I don’t do it unless circumstances insist.

Moooom congrats to Roxy on her first library card! My mum used to take me to the local library regularly with her, the librarian (who was known to be a Dragon!) gave me my own library ticket at the age of 4, long before I was old enough to properly join. Children weren’t allowed to join until the age of 7, and only allowed to take out 3 books at a time. Mum was extremely pleased when I was allowed to choose one book every visit, and that was the start of my long lifetime of library love.

Having a minor grump at 'im indoors now. His turn to make drinks, and he’s come back upstairs to complain that I forgot to fill up the water filter jug so he has to wait a couple of minutes for that to finish before he can fill the kettle. Yes, let’s focus on that one small thing and completely ignore the other stuff I’ve done that he hasn’t had to even think about, like feeding and medicating the cats, doing the litter trays, emptying the kitchen bin before he filled it to overflowing…petty, but grumpy!

You slacker, you!!!

You have the right to be grumpy. So sayeth I!!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently around 50 degrees and cloudy (it’s dark, so who knows), with an expected high of around 72 and sunny skies. This weekend we hit the eighties again. But rain is supposed to move in later next week. I hope so. We had a nice little bit of rain yesterday morning. It didn’t last long, but it was nice.

I get the minor grump, boofae. My husband does stuff like that all the time.

Congrats to Roxy on her first library card! I spent countless hours at the library when I was a kid. My kids had library cards too, but I haven’t used ours since they were little.

One more day to get through! Work seemed to drag on for hours yesterday, even though the day was broken up by an appointment.

FCM, you’re not griping and you’re not being selfish. You take care of the grandkids almost daily, you’re dealing with elderly in-laws in a huge way, AND, managing both your and FCD’s feelings. You led a busy life even before it came down to this move, and now you’re going to be even busier. Sometimes, the carers need a respite. Both you and FCD need a long vacation free from worries. I really hope you get to take one once everyone is settled in. Sending all my best to you both, because I’m not sure I could sustain what you two are taking on.

I have a hell of a time getting an actual appointment too, yet I get weekly letters nagging me to set up all the stuff a woman of a certain age needs to get done. I belong to Kaiser, and honestly, since they took over Group Health the quality of care and speed of getting seen has decreased greatly and this was pre-COVID. Interestingly enough, while traveling to the conference the other day, we had a discussion about just this situation. My director’s daughter ended up getting a concierge service and she has no problem getting an appointment with that provider. This service doesn’t take insurance. She will help patients navigate the insurance if she needs to make a referral though. The cost is around $250.00 a month, and the director’s daughter has this in addition to her regular health insurance. She loves it and the quality of medical care has significantly increased. On the other hand, it’s extra money and not everyone can do that.

Today is the final day of the fiscal year. Yet, I have a lot going on. I have really been struggling lately to feel motivated about my work. I have an interview on Tuesday. It would be the promotion I talked about in an earlier MPP. My competition is stiff and I’m pretty sure I won’t get it. Still, as I said, one has to try. I am also applying for a lateral position today or this weekend. That job would be entirely remote, which would be nice for me.

Welp, onward with the day!

Mooooom, like taters said, you have a lot on your plate. Here is where you can let things out. Hugs and I hope that you can take a vacation sometime soon.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted a load of towels / sheets in the dryer, jeans in the wash and fixing to do KP and clean house.

I turned on the heat this morning because it was 44F outside. :open_mouth: I think that it’s the earliest I’ve done that since I moved to Tennessee in 1995.

Well, off to KP once I wake a sleepy reddish dog and take him from my lap to his bed.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Another great day in N.Ali-bama, 55F heading for 77F and not a drop of rain in sight. Swimmin’-n-sauna are on the agenda as is soccer coaching, then referee and coach tomorrow. May have smaller attendance Sattiday as that begins Fall break and a lot of people take off for short vacations while the weather is still good.

FCM, damn few people could carry the burdens you do as well as you have. You’re one of the least selfish people I know, so rant away when you must…you’re earned the right

Butters, enjoy the day.

OK, onward. Something just started with a high whine, thought it might be one of the alarms but doesn’t seem to be, will shut down the computer after this and see if that’s the problem. Take care all.

My sis and mom are with Kaiser in MD, and their experiences convinced me we do well with BC/BS.

The Tobester has survived his shot. No more fever, and he’s making me crazy! Hope he takes a good nap before he wears me out!

FCD has gone to the boat to get his tool bags and make sure everything is good. I should make a packing list. And pick up my meds. And get some wiper blades…

It’s cloudy and cool right now, but I hope to get to the gym and errands run before the marine layer burns off. Taters and I have the same weather, and I’m really looking forward to the rains when they finally get here. I’m going to repot my new crispy wave fern the kids gave me. OH, and the other birthday gift (aside from binocs) my daughter sent me arrived: socks with a pattern of her and her brother making funny faces on them. I laugh every time I see them. The next time I’m introduced to someone, I can say, and these are my lovely children!" and show them the socks.

Do libraries anywhere still have bookmobiles? Our local bookmobile’s arrival was the highlight of many a kid’s week. We LOVED it, and it parked right outside the little mom and pop store, so if we had 2¢, we could get a pretzel rod to eat on the way home. Sheer bliss! I vastly prefer real books over ebooks, and I know from my teaching days we absorb what we read better, have more empathy for the characters, etc., but ebooks are great for traveling, not to mention reading in waiting rooms, which no longer have magazines.

Gotta say, I loathe the medical concierge trend. A nurse friend and I were discussing this the other day. Basically it means an easier time getting healthcare for the affluent and an even harder time for everyone else, just what the US doesn’t need.

butters, hope you get some sleep!
wheelz, have fun at the game!
flyboy, glad the white spot turned out to be nothing. Hope the deep cleaning isn’t too bad.
FCM, if there were medals for domestic accomplishment, you’d get one from us. Also, Roxy for President! Seriously, that kid is going places!
red, I wish I could borrow Nelson. Sometimes a sleeping lap dog is just what I need.

Well, the mystery of the whining noise has been solved, it was the surge protector/backup battery box that was screeching, the red light was flashing but the ‘replace battery light’ was still off, so I just went to Wal-Mart and bought a new one, hopefully it will last a few more years. Then came home, opened the drawer for the braunsweiger for meal #1 today, and the entire thing came out and the handle is broken off. So need to see if I can find a replacement somewhere. Oh joy.

Press on with the day, all.

Add me to the list of those insisting that a Fairy Chat vacation is in order once the in-laws are settled in. Just the two of you, and no guilt allowed. You have more than earned it.

Thank you! It was a fun game. The Giants did their best to blow a 6-0 lead in the ninth, but managed to prevail. More importantly, it was a beautiful evening, and I got to sit and chat with my friend Phil for a few hours.

Phil is the first (and if I’m being totally honest, only) good friend I’ve made since moving to San Francisco. Mere weeks after the move, I went golfing with my BIL. They paired us with a single player, Phil. We all hit it off, and exchanged numbers to play together again. Since then he’s been a golfing buddy, a baseball buddy, a drinking buddy, and even a work buddy, as I helped get him a part-time job with me at the A’s.

A couple years ago, Phil was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He’s still doing OK in general, but his hands are noticeably shaky, and he says some days are worse than others. He hates that his golf game is no good anymore. He may have to sell his house so he doesn’t have to go up and down stairs. What a shitty disease. He goes to Vegas often, so I’m hoping to see him as much as possible while he can still travel, and I hope he’s up for a Giants game whenever I come back to visit SF.

Howdy all!

Hippie those quilt blocks are looking good. I really like the pattern on the last one.

Sari I’m sorry the world is being so aggravating. I hope things ease up. :people_hugging:

Congrats to the Roxstar on her library card! She’s growing so fast.

taters the conference sounds very interesting. It’s good to know that people are trying to think ahead.

Metal Mouse We just pumped the tires up too. I think the heat of summer led to higher tire inflation. The temps came down and so did our tires.

Nellie so cool that you got to see the salmon. Have you heard anything about the population numbers coming back up? I believe they’ve been making some changes to help support the salmon runs and I’m curious to know how that’s going.

Butters so glad the hurricane is past you now. I hope the gardens had minimal damage. I heard there was some causeway damage out to the Keys. Hopefully they get that patched up quickly.

The air pressure dove here yesterday, which triggered a migraine. Today my head hasn’t made up its mind yet (ha) about whether it’s migraine day 2 or not. We’ll see I guess.

Take care everyone!

@Wheelz Parkinson doth suck. My BIL has had it for about 4 years and it is progressing rapidly. He is in the midst of deep brain stimulation. The holes were drilled in his head a few weeks and this coming Thordsay the wires and control dingus will be inserted. A few weeks after that he will get all hooked up. He still plays golf, sometimes less than 9 holes. Exercise is good for Parkinson. Your buddy may want to look into DBS.

So I got my eye exam done, and got my glasses ordered. Bifocals. Oh well, now I’ll be able to read the credits on my Matlock VHS tape. Ian is picking up wind and rain, I already had a power flicker. But it’s 59 degrees, so it doesn’ feel like a hurricane.

@Taters which forecast are you looking at? I really, really want more rain, but the NWS persists in being a party-pooper by insisting on sunny skies and highs around 80 through all of next week. I’d love to know they’re wrong!

I have! Coho have had a really dramatic increase, I read. There were certainly plenty at the falls yesterday! I’m pretty ignorant–OK, ridiculously ignorant–about the details, though.

Agreed. I’m an Iowa girl but I like okra (gotta not cook it too much). My roommate, the Arkansas redneck, hates hates hates okra. She’s misguided.

I second or third this~take a break as soon as you can after they are settled in their apt. Go somewhere fun with your boyfriend. Take care of yourself so you can take care of them and grandbabbies.

I finally put the air conditioner back in the shed, and stowed the box fan. Then I cleaned the debris off of the shed roof. I couldn’t get enough leverage with the broom, so I put the miniature suicide nozzle on the hose. Unfortunately, the expanding hose has a large new leak in it so I didn’t have a lot of pressure. Took longer than I’d thought. In the meantime, I started up our 3,000 W Honda generator and let it run. It’s been half a year since it’s been started, and it lit on the second pull. When I finished with the roof, I turned the fuel selector to OFF and let it empty its carburettor.

Now it’s time for my walk.

ETA before I leave… There’s a big pile of turd in the back yard. I can’t imagine our raccoons (which the Wife says are enormous) could make logs that big. I’m not entirely sure it’s the right shape or texture [Visual inspection, people! No touching!] for raccoons. It looks like maybe someone’s large dog got out, or maybe it’s from one of the resident coyotes.

Yep. It sucketh mightily.

Daughter is on her way, and I’ll be able to do my last 2 errands. Then home to pack.

NOT looking forward to the drive, but it brings us 1 step closer to sanity. I hope…

Afternoon all. Swimmin’ and Sauna are done, one lane was closed because they were changing a light on the roof (about 20ft high) and had ladders in the pool, so I had to wait a bit but got my workout in. Soccer in about 75 minutes, so need to begin thinking about it.

Wheelie, Parkinson’s is one disease I hope to avoid, it takes away so much but leaves your brain pretty much alone, so you have the same wants and dreams, but…(at least as I understand it). Best wishes to your Friend.

FCM, looks like IAN will have moved inland for you by the time you take off Sattiday. Still, be careful out there…

Sunny, went right by the Kroger after swimming where I usually air up the tires and completely forgot. Will try to remember again after soccer practice.

OK, 4pm here so need to finish things up on-line and get ready to chase 9 year olds. All y’all take care.

@nelliebly I swear the forecast this morning said we would see rain late next week. It has now changed. I was looking at the forecast tied to my Xfinity homepage. I am disappointed. Long range forecasts are now saying rain on Monday 10 October.

In other boring news I am sick of work and embarrassed to say I looking at clock in the corner of my monitor. I only have 42 minutes left, thank goodness.
