Lost 1.14: "Special"

Arghhh… Boone is NOW 100% under Locke’s spell.

Bleah. I haven’t been keeping up with the show, but I was all ready to get into it again. And then they just lost me. A bird hitting a window is a traditional harbinger of death, so after that whole scene I was saying, “Rad, what a creepy and effective way to show that.”

Then they had to go and make it all goofy and explicit. The kid’s got magical powers and can conjure up a polar bear he saw in a comic book. Yawn.

Eh, sometime I’m going to go back and watch the whole show in order (presumably when they release the DVDs), but I’m already disappointed. I guess I was expecting a little more subtlety. Only thing keeping me interested for now is my own goofy TV crush on Naveen Andrews, Dominic Monaghan, and Evangeline Lilly.

I agree, except those bastard producers have still left it up to coincidence, and it could be something else. We skeptics can still believe there’s a rational explanation for everything. The “believers” among us are already convinced they “know.”

Bastard producers.

Wouldn’t it really make more sense to compete for other people to win the deodorant?

This might be grasping at straws a little:

Since we are speculating on symbolism of colors. The dog (Vince) symbolizes the Stepdad (Brian) then Walt turns the dog into a polar bear > still symbolizing the Stepdad = white Stepdad = white polar bear - and Vince is light colored as well.

If Vince does come back maybe his nose will be injured since that would correlate with the bears injuries. IIRC Michael wasn’t too fond of the dog at the beginning when it was missing. At the time that just seemed like he was annoyed because it upset Walt. Maybe he was annoyed because it symbolized Brian and he wanted him to go away and stay away.

Claire’s posture looked like she was standing like “normal” - not like a 9 month pregnant woman (holding sore back etc). It also didn’t look like she had the black dress on that she had on previously.

Holy crap, another great episode!

I’d considered Michael and Walt very boring, almost disposable characters until tonight. Very creepy when Walt’s adoptive father tells Michael that Walt is “different”. I was thinking for a moment tonight that Walt and Claire’s son will be opposing supernatural forces, but unless Claire’s baby has a “V” kind of accelerated growth gene, he’ll be too young to knowingly do anything.

Locke enlisted his third and most unlikely apostle tonight. When/if he gets Sawyer on his side, that episode will be a hoot.

BTW, I’m glad that Sawyer is back to being a selfish, opportunistic prick who just steals and hordes everything he can get his hands on. I was annoyed at the quasi-sensitive Sawyer we got after he kissed Kate, but the past few eps, especially him stealing Claire’s diary tonight, have brought back the heel we all love to hate.

This is one show that I can’t wait to get on DVD. They’d better be preparing it as we write!

By the way, why did Sawyer only steal Claire’s diary? Did she have nothing else of value in those two big bags? Maybe he did it just to get at Charlie?

Here’s a picture of Clair coming back. I can’t really tell if she’s still preggers or not, my screen is too dark, anyone else ?

well, she either put on some pounds, or is pregnant. and yes, she IS still wearing that black dress.

On my screen, she is still pregnant. There’s a definite curve inward at the lowest part of her belly, below the baby. That said, she’s also not standing like she’s pregnant, you’re right about that, soulburnz. Her center of gravity is definitely higher than an extremely pregnant woman. But I think that’s a momentary lapse on the part of an actress in a pregnancy suit not knowing how to appear battered and tired and scared and pregnant all at once.

Didn’t think it about the bear, but me and Alias were joking about it after the dead bird part. “You’re not looking. You’re not looking!” Thud!

Two best punches of the series so far.

Mike decking Boone. Yeah Boone  , you’re Captain Badass.

“The man said to calm down.” Whack!! Back in yer place pup.

And Charlie hitting Sawyer right in the wound. That needs to happen in every episode. “You hit like a ponce.”  The diary scene was hilarious.

It looked like Claire was still pregnant to me, which means something was likely done or taken to/from the baby while she was at the black rock. Remember the needle dreams.

Was I the only one who, upon the battered and torn reappearance of Claire, thought, “Oh! Uh…hi, Claire…we were…just coming to find you. Really…in a few weeks. SO. How was your day?”

I mean, really. Whaddaya say?

It’s hard to tell, but if I HAD to guess, I’d agree with you. If she is still prgenant, I wouldn’t want to be on the island to watch that kid grow up…

Once Claire gets back into the group (assuming Locke doesn’t keep her for himself), I hope they realize that they have to seak out Rousseau to find out what she knows about Ethan.

I was a little disappointed with the scene between the Hobbit and Sawyer. After the Hobbit punches Sawyer, he had to know that a counter-punch was on the way. I would have thought his Hobbit-like reflexes would have enabled him to avoid it.

I’m guessing that Claire isn’t going to have much recollection of what happened to her, whether she’s still pregnant or not. By the way, she may still have a small bulge around her middle even if she has already given birth. It’s just too hard to tell one way or the other from what you could see in that last scene.

Here’s something else to chew on.

It’s too simple if they just take Claire’s baby. We know the baby is important. They know the baby is important. Everyone must go get the baby.

However, if Claire comes back with the baby in her stomach we’re left with nearly zero in the way of answers. Why did they want her if not to take the baby? Did they do something to the baby and if so, what did they do? Why did they just up and let her go if they wanted her so badly?

Having them take the baby answers more questions than it poses. When has Lost ever been that nice to us?

I agree, and that’s why I think they need to get back to Rousseau. Charlie was kidnapped for a time, too, and he hasn’t given ANY information to the group, at least that we know of, other than that he said “they” took Claire, implying there was at least one other person involved besides Ethan.

I noticed this, too. Boone and Shannon hid in a stand of trees like that when the TCM came after them, but that was all in Boone’s head. Still, the TCM didn’t attack them until after they left.

I’m trying to think back to the pilot, but didn’t Kate and Charlie hide in a similar stand after the TCM killed the plane’s surviving flight crew member?

Could it be that all the characters have unknowingly been taking shelter in the same stand of trees, and that the TCM is actually restricted to a small part of the island around it? That would explain why it never came to the beach or caves for a little survivor snack.

Just some thoughts…

EZ

Remember that on the first attack (assuming that it either really happened or was a meaningful dream/vision), the assailiant tried to inject something into Claire’s belly. Maybe they did whatever it was they needed to d with the baby, and could then turn Claire loose to have and raise it among the castaways. Perhaps they innoculated it against the infection. Perhaps they infected it.

Y’know, just when I think I’m following along and Lost is getting more straighforward… I suddenly remember all the stuff that’ been left dangling. Like “Adam and Eve”, Alex the maybe-zombie, the voices that whisper…

This week when Charlie said “the Black Rock” I went “Wheeeeeee!” in spite of myself.
