Wow. Black Rock is a ship. I kept saying, to my “Lost” group: It’s the balck obelisk from 2001. Wrong.
TCM is a security system. And it’s apparently been working for over 100 years. Notice how CFL led the group into a banyan “safe zone” when TCM appeared. We’ve seen that before.
I’ve been saying all along that the some of the other plane passengers are still alive somewhere. Lily (or is it Rose) who kept saying her husband is still alive, and I suspected she was right. I like the idea that next year starts all over again with the tail section on the other side of the island. It would be very frustrating, but interesting.
And I started crying like a little girl. Damn. Like Futurama’s Jurassic Bark all over again. I hope I’m not alone here…I’m still choked up remembering it now.
Second time this week I got choked up at something on TV. Deadwood made me cry after seeing little Sofia at William Bullock’s funeral.
Ther were lots of misty-eye moments in this ep. You got most of them. I was pleased to see that the Sawyer/Christian thing was revealed to Jack - Sawyer may yet prove to have a soul. Jin/Sun was damn near heart-breaking. The scene with Walt and Shannon (“Vincent is a good listener - you can talk to him about Boone”) was terrific.
For me, though, the topper was the raft setting out, because, IMHO, the expedition is doomed. I don’t think anyone will die, but the TCM and other Forces that protect the Island (from discovery?) will prevent their mission from succeeding.
p.s. Kate seemed to want to recover from laying a particularly rotten egg last ep: she wanted to join Jack on the trek to the Black Rock “for old time’s sake”.
Next season - which will win out? Kate’s evil beeyatch side, or the side that wants to be good?
Holy crap, after the season finale, summer’s gonna be one long bitch till season two!
We got Sawyer’s real name! Shannon was a bitch to Sayid before they met!
I felt bad when the marshall was taunting Kate while she was handcuffed, but after thinking about all the trouble she’s been in in, I told my wife “Unless they show that she’s the unluckiest woman alive, Kate’s a real fuck up, isn’t she?” I can’t wait to learn what her major crime was, the one that the marshall started chasing her for.
I would’ve cried if the Sawyer/Jack scene had lasted another few seconds. It was perfect because Sawyer got to thank Jack for everything he’s done with a kind gesture without betraying the nature of his character.
You guys know they’re going to make us wait at least until next season to see what’s in the hatch, right?
“Don’t look at it, dude.”
Charlie starts to glance at it.
“DUDE! DON’T! LOOK AT IT!”
That cracked me up.
There were a few moments when I felt they were kind of hitting us over the head with information. Like just as I was wondering if Arzt (thanks for spelling that out for us, Leslie) was another Ethan, Hurley casually mentioned that he saw his name on the plane manifest. Or when Jack’s chick casually mentioned that she was at the BACK of the plane - yeah, that’s significant.
BTW, I think the crypticness of her “worst is over” bit was just the director trying to highlight the irony, because we know there’s so much more worse stuff coming up.
A boy and his dog. Why does that always get us every single time?
Did anyone else want to scream when the CFL asked what the hatch was?
Overall, a fantastic episode. Can’t wait for next week!
I assume that Saayid was able to board the plane even after Shannon’s dirty trick because he had CIA clearance. He really should have known better than to just leave his bag with a stranger and walk off.
Locke seems to know that there’s no need to run from the TCM. Apparently, he’s the only one that’s figured out that it’s never actually gotten anyone from their group yet. Perhaps it isn’t even trying to.
Question: I couldn’t quite hear Sawyer’s last name; was it “Ford”?
I definitely heard “they TOOK my baby” which fits with what Danielle has been saying about the Others and her daughter Alex.
Michelle Rodriguez got her break in the indie film “Girlfight” 2 years before Hilary Swank did Million Dollar Baby. She was also in S.W.A.T. She can play the tough chick really, really well.
To my eye, the Black Rock was a simple frigate or other small transport vessel - the equivalent of an 18-wheeler of it’s day. Nothing clipper-like or streamlined about it.
Overall - very good and satifying. I appreciated the acting of Jin and Sun - Jin especially since he couldn’t use English to convey how he was feeling.
In today’s Wall Street Journal there’s an article about the number of cliffhangers many episodic TV shows are ending with this season. In their blurb about Lost, one of the shows creators says about the last episode (paraphrased from memory):
“Pay careful attention to what the French lady says in the 3rd-to-last scene in the final episode as it points the way to the direction that Season 2 will take the show.” While paraphrased, the “3rd-to-last scene” bit is accurate.
“Dirty trick?” I thought you were supposed to let the security guys know when a suspicious-looking Arab guy abandons an overnight bag in an international airport.
