For that matter, how did Sawyer get on the plane? Did the Aussie authorities let him fly with his forged passport? They must have, because Hurley didn’t know his real name - only the name on the manifest.
I’m wondering if Hurley put the lottery numbers in the bottle, to try to “pass on” the bad luck, and that’s why he didn’t want Charlie to look at it.
Well, yeah, but he asked nicely if she would watch it, and she agreed. And let’s face it Shannon didn’t rat Saayid out from a feeling of responsibility, she did it to manipulate Boone.
Thought it was a fine episode… Lot’s of plot progress and character development, and I liked seeing the characters in/around the airport in their mini-flashbacks.
Was it just me, or did Locke have a vibe going with the CFL? I don’t think she was returning it, but wouldn’t they make a cute couple? At the end of the show’s run when everybody else is rescued or whatever, Locke and the CFL will be waving to them as they both decide to stay on the island…
What was with the scratches on her arm? “It was a bush,” she told Locke. “Mean bush,” he replied. I like his talent for understatement. It reminded me of what he said when Walt talked about his mom dying. “You’ve had a bad month.”
And Sawyer just redeemed himself for all the bad blood he’s stirred up on the island. First reconciling with Jack, and then bringing a new mast to patch things up with Jin and Michael. There was a very short but telling shot of Sawyer watching the other castaways hug and wish the other raft-riders luck – and no one approached him. He may be realizing how much he pushes people away.
There was a similar scene of Kate looking around before heading out into the Jungle. Was she looking for Sawyer to say goodbye? Or judging her chances of maybe replacing him at the last second on the raft?
And the chick Jack was talking to at the airport… Potential love interest, freeing up Kate to pursue Sawyer…?
EZ
Wow. I had a meeting last night and taped the show. I was panicky until I got home and saw the tape worked, I kept thinking the power would go off or I misjudged how much time was left on the tape or the cat’s would mess with the remote and change the channel. Fortunately there was beer at the meeting. (By the way, drinking and planning buidling design may not always be a good idea).
I can only echo what everyone else said, favorite scenes Sawyer and Jack, Walt and Shannon, and Jin and Sun. I third/fourth/fifth how cute Jin looked with the curly hair. Man those two are so good together. Shannon with the dog and Walt was the best Shannon scene ever, then lest we forget what she was like they show us what a little snot she used to be. Sawyer and Jack, so many layers there. I got the feeling that Sawyer wished he could have had such a moment about his father. And the shirtless scene … le sigh
Loved that the black rock was a name of something and not a rock.
Can’t wait 'til next week!
I was kind of disappointed that you did see Jin and Sun run off into the jungle for a good-bye quickie after they made up…
Make that did not see…
There were some beautifully under-played moments: Shannon and Walt, Sawyer at the raft, etc. I just about teared up during the Jack/Sawyer scene. Lots of rehabilitation in that moment.
Has anybody with a tape of the show ID’d the type of ship the *Black Rock * is? My wife thinks it might be a slaver. She might be right.
Can someone please refresh my memory as to what it was she said? I can’t remember what was said in the 3rd to last scene.
I just noticed you can see a cameraman in the water right after Walt yells “Stay Vincent” on the extreme right side of the frame:
Alias: They’re referring to the upcoming episode, not last nights.
I’m guessing it’s a note to his accountant telling him to pay the kid however many tens of thousands of dollars Hurley owes him due to backgammon losses.
Given that we’ve seen other vague hints that Walt might have some psychic abilities, I was intrigued by the Vincent-swimming-after-the-raft scene.
Vincent breaks free from Shannon’s grip to run and then swim after the raft and His Boy. Not unusual, since Shannon is not used to restraining a large dog and surely wasn’t expecting Vincent to try to break away from her anyway.
We see at least three separate shots of Vincent swimming strongly towards the raft. For an episode that gave us much more information than probably any other episode this season, I raised an eyebrow at the time and trouble gone to to film this particular scene.
Walt then commands Vincent to go back, twice at least. Maybe the first time he didn’t really mean it, since he didn’t really want to be parted from Vincent. But even tho he’s just a boy, another moment’s reflection perhaps made him realize that it was best for Vincent to stay behind, so…
When Walt told Vincent to go back the second time, Vincent, who looked like he could swim thru a lake of lava to reach His Boy, and who had almost reached his goal, turns around and begins swimming back towards shore without so much as a hint of hesitation.
Walt’s expression upon seeing this could be interpreted a number of ways.
Could it be that Walt made Vincent turn around, with something other than his mere words? If he did, was Walt conscious of how he did it?
I like that they’ve thrown hints about the possibility of Walt’s ‘powers’ at us several times this season, but that each instance could have an innocent interpretation. Or they all might add up to something more.
However old the USS? SS? RMS? HMS? Blackrock is, it is in much too good a shape to have been subject to the ravages of time, weather and rainforest encroachment.
Its hull should have rotted away decades ago.
I’m not pointing this out as an “error,” but as yet another mystery. I’m sure the producers have an answer for this.
Dang, I forgot to tape this!
Could someone please ‘spoil’ it for me? Give me a summary or something of what happened and what we learned?
Thanks
When I first saw that there was a ship in the grass and vines, my first thought (for some reason) was Noah’s Ark.
Are there any valid ways a ship could end up in the middle of an island in the first place? Could a hurricane or cyclone throw a ship that size so far?
I have a question about CFL’s message.
Why wasn’t it in English? She speaks very good English, right?
Yet when she leaves the repeating SOS, she leaves it in French.
Wouldn’t English be the more commonly spoken language in that part of the world? Wouldn’t she have a better chance of getting rescued if she had done the message in English?
*Bleak, adrift,
Shattered like a monstrous ship of stone,
Left aground
By the waters, on its voyage;
With no foot to touch its deck,
With no hand to lift its sails,
There it stands. *
From "The Black Rock"by John Gould Fletcher.
CFL’s expidition was out of Tahiti, IIRC. She probably thought she was still in French Polynesia.
