Lost 1.24/1.25: "Exodus, Part Two"

Oh, and these are actually the “MOP” survivors. Their part of the plane had the wings & engines.

The FOP was found with one survivor (the pilot, who got chewed on and spat out by the TCM). There may have been other survivors of that part of the plane who wandered off in search of better shelter than the body-filled wreckage.

Rose is the black woman who was sitting next to Jack on the plane. She is the one that Boone was trying to give CPR to in the very first episode, when Jack said to him, “You should seriously think about giving that license back.” (regarding being licensed in CPR).

In episode 4 (“Walkabout”), Rose has been off by herself, staring out to sea. Jack ends up going over to talk to her, and sits with her for a while. After a bit, she actually does start talking. In one of the later scenes, we have this exchange:

Jack: Rose, after the sun goes down, we’re going to burn the fuselage. It’s… just something that we have to do. There’s going to be a memorial service back at the camp for those… for those that didn’t make it, for everyone to say goodbye.
Rose: I’d like to be there for that.
Jack: Okay. Maybe if you wanted to say something… you know, about your husband.
Rose: What?
Jack: I’m just saying if you wanted to say goodbye to Bernard.
Rose: Doctor, my husband is not dead.
Jack: Rose… he was in the tail section of the plane. It broke off in mid-flight. I’m sorry, but everyone who was in the rear of the plane is gone.
Rose: They’re probably thinking the same thing about us.

Actually, Rose was also in episode #12 (“Whatever the case may be”). Charlie sits down next to her towards the end of the episode (and Charlie is still distraught over Claire being taken):

Charlie: Your husband was in the tail section of the plane…
Rose: Yes, he was… but he’ll be back.
Charlie: You think he’s still alive?
Rose: I know he is.
Charlie: How?
Rose: I just do… It’s a fine line between denial and faith. It’s much better on my side.

  • Charlie cries *
    Charlie: Help me…
Rose: Baby… I’m not the one who that can help you.
pauses. Then Rose looks to the sky
Rose: Heavenly father… we thank you. we thank you for bringing us together tonight.
camera pans back and away as Rose holds Charlie and continues to pray

A couple things I noticed in last nights episode,

I think the Raft was doomed to failure based on Michaels crack navigation lesson to Walt.

Walt: Who do I steer Dad?
Michael: Just point the boat towards that cloud over there

Now I am the only one that thinks hey clouds move maybe they would have just ended up going in circles and noticing Land Hoe, hey look Wreckage of a plane and wait there are some people we know waving at us from the beach! </Homer> Duoh </Homer>

The other thing was Sawyer Reading everyone’s messages, completely sleazy and in character for him.

If the radar on the raft was from the Beechcraft I don’t think you would have a display with concentric Circles, the array does not rotate and would not show a 360 degree sweep, I think most aircraft radars are there to show what is in front of you.

I was also thinking about the issue of fueling the boat that “the others” were on. Some in this thread have made comments on the size of the boat and it being to big to be a tender but too small to venture out in the open water on it’s own. I have seen many a larger boat (commerical fishing, reasearch, recreational) that have tenders that size and larger.

I obviously spend way too much time around boats and there parts.

Good call, Ethilrist – I was about to point out the same thing. Our survivors are the MOPs. (not to be confused with the Moops).

And Frylock, the belief that there are BOP survivors has been primarily speculation on our part, but there’s a good bit of evidence, or at least hints, to suggest there will be some. Including the conversations with Rose (“My husband is alive”), the radio bit with Boone (“We’re survivors of flight 815!”), and the claims that the gal playing Ana-Lucia (sitting in 42-F) will be a regular cast member next season.

I had no problem with the size of the boat, I’m very curious about the fueling of it all.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention my thoughts on the dynomite they found on “The Black Rock”.

I’m thinking that CFL put the dynomite there herself. The dynomite (or rather the box) looked a lot newer than 1800’s era. I’m guessing this because the words “Explosives” was stenciled on the side using a military type font (a la “M.A.S.H.”). In the 1800’s I’m sure it would have been written.

She probably put it there so the Others wouldn’t find it. Or that the “Security System” would stop anyone from getting to “The Black Rock” (TBR from now on anyone?).

Any thoughts?

According to the TV Tome, the writers of the series are writing from episode to episode, aside from backstory they have no idea where this series will go. Very interesting.

In going back and looking up that Rose conversation, I noticed something interesting. Take a look:

From episode #4 (“Walkabout”), in an earlier Jack/Rose scene:

From epsiode #20 (“Do No Harm”) – Boone’s deathbed (deathrock?)

Monstre. Huh. Two people independently saying the same thing to Jack, and both disappear – one not to be seen, one to die. Huh.

Does anyone have the number that was on the side of the thingy? You know, the thingy with the portal? I just had lunch and my mind is not working clearly. I realize it was composed of the bad numbers by Hurley’s perspective, but I’m curious about something else about the number.

The numbers were: 4 8 15 16 23 42.

They had been seen in multiple instances during the episode.

I have them all on my computer and I went back to rewatch it immediately. It’s definitly there and there is another one that darts into the jet engine between Locke and Some Guy before Some Guy gets sucked into the jet engine. People were saying that it was a CGI marker that didn’t get edited back out, but since we’ve had glimpses of black smoke in this episode, I’m started to wonder if it either wasn’t there on purpose or it was a goof and they later changed the composite of the monster.

Another website that might give clues to LOST fans that hasn’t been mentioned here. Drive Shaft’s Fan Website is extremely cute and I’m pretty sure it is official. It was registered 2 days after the first ep aired and I don’t think Charlie’s band is mentioned in the first ep. It includes a blurb about a Harold Wollstein who would be very important to our survivors. Unfortunately his seat number is 23-C so he was probably killed. They said that all of his information was in a laptop, but they used the laptop batteries for other things, didn’t they?

Third time’s the charm…

Cool site, kimera. Some interesting stuff there. UFOs get a mention, along with the tidbit that several of the passengers of Flight 815 “don’t exist.” We know Sawyer was traveling on phony papers, but who else? Black Ops people? Is Hurley a spook? Is Walt really a midget in the employ of the Mossad?
Fun to postulate about all summer, but I have to remind myself before I go off the deep end: facts without theory are trivia; theory without facts is bullshit.

Do we know at what rows our principal characters were seated?

I think I could make out “Southampton” under Black Rock on the ship. I think it was a bit blurred on purpose, and I don’t know if that has any significance.

I hate not being able to watch this until after work on Thursday. It’s hard to stay away from this thread during work.

I don’t remember them off the top of my head, if you check the ep guide on TV Tome they note the seats in the different episode notes.

“Red Shirts” is a Star trek (Kirk) reference. Just about every epi, there’d be one or two un-named red-shirted security dudes going down with them, who’d die in a particulary spectalular way. Their only job (on the epi) was to die.

(53 seconds running time)

[CFL eats a raw egg on the beach]

Charlie, to Claire: She’s a nutter. A couple of sandwiches short of a picnic. She tried to blow my head off in the bloody jungle with no reason whatsoever.
She says she heard whispers.
That doesn’t mean anything, Claire.
[Cute shot of TurnipHead]
Whispers.

Claire: When Ethan took me - however I got away - I knew they’d be back.

Charlie: Is that why you’ve not named the baby?

[Claire kisses TH’s head.]

Ummm…not actually bad advice as clouds often form over islands. So that advice might conceivably have taken them to the next island in a chain.

Possibilities: The island wasn’t always as high and wide as it is now–although that brings up another question: How could its size and dimensions have increased over a period of only one or two centuries?

I think Cervaise raised another theory about this earlier: This is not a naturally formed island at all, but rather a spaceship or something otherworldly which has gotten overgrown, and can also move around, which would explain how it might have bumped land just long enough for a polar bear or two to crawl onto it; and which also explains why it has not been mapped and explored.

(If I’m remembering his post correctly)
