Lost 1.6 "House of the Rising Sun"

For some reason, seeing him covered in Bad CG Bees like that made me expect him to shout “Omfug!”

[/weak forced pun]

Okay, so which is it? Because Bibliocat says it was all in subtitles.

WTH? Weird.

It was in subtitles, and they weren’t speaking English… but my brain heard “lucky wife” come out sounding English-y. Probably just a weird coincidence?

Well, “diamond” and maybe at least one other word (I can’t remember) were the English words.

You click on it and you can pick various items up.

For example on the first screen, the plane crash, you

pick up medicine near the lower middle part of the screen. Then, click the bottom right hand corner. You are moved to a jungle scene

In that place you find

handcuffs in the grass in the lower middle part of the screen. The items go to the inventory. If you want to go back to the beach, an opening appears in the palm trees in the upper part of that scene. To get to the next scene, click the lower right hand part of the screen.

In that place you’ll notice

The mugshot of Kate in the lower right hand corner of the screen. The shiney thing in the plane is a transceiver. If you mouse over it, you hear the same message that is played in the show. I can’t figure out how to get to a new scene from the fuselage part. I’ve noticed that as the show progresses, more and more options are available, so it might not just available yet. Go back to the plane crash to get to the next place.

Once you are back at that scene

Click about half way down the far, far right side of the screen. You’ll come to a ‘clean’ beach scene.

Once you are in that place, you’ll get

The wires and the metal. Click on the green mountain to go to the next part.

Once you are in the next part you’ll

Be in a jungle. You’ll see water(?) on the ground. Click and drag your wires and your metal out into the scene and they will appear on the tree in a form of a transmiter. Once you do that a portal will open up in the right hand part of the screen. I swear that wasn’t there the last 3 times I tried to figure this puzzle(?) out. Go into that portal to get to the last scene that I know of.

Once you are there

You can get an Ax.

And that is where I am stuck now. I don’t think there is anywhere else to go until the next episode airs!

Good episode.

Didn’t think the Willie Nelson song at the end was right. I would have much rather heard Charlie strum his guitar. I’m assuming the actor can actually play?

I was also surprised that the people didn’t have reservations about the Tree Felling Monster, or that neither Jack nor Charlie discussed that HUGE monster that pulled the pilot out of the cockpit 30 feet in the air. The presence of monsters and other wily beasts (e.g. those boars) would be a major consideration as to whether my ass would be at the beach or in the caves.

Speaking of the caves, I don’t like the set they’ve chosen for the caves. I realize it’s darker in the woods than on the beach, but the set is claustrophibic IMO, and fairly depressing. I realize they’re probably playing off the black/white theme but I hope they don’t spend a lot of time at the caves. Though I did appreciate that the bees forced Jack to remove his shirt.

I’m confused about the plane. Was the plane wreckage near the cave part of their plane? Or was it the plane of Adam and Eve? I assumed it was the same plane because Jack’s father’s casket was there, but he said something last night that made me think it was a different plane.

They should be making a bigger deal about food, IMO. Even if the boar had not rotted in the the tropical heat surely “food” would be another major consideration as to what location you’d choose. If Jin can gather edible seaweed, etc., and catch a 10 pound fish with his bare hands, honey, I’m staying with him on the beach! And with 50 other people sharing the beach, you’d think that a huge fish would have been a big deal for no other reason than it was something different than pork.

Yes, Dom Monaghan can play guitar. I’ve seen pictures of him performing with a band. Also the three single hobbits formed a band while filming, Billy Boyd is an accomplished musician on a couple instruments and Dom plays guitar. I think Elijah was the only one with little musical talent so they gave him a tambourine or something.

I was also annoyed when they showed Charlie strumming his guitar which I thought meant we’d get to hear him play and then they cut to Hurley’s cd player again. Had I been on the island I might have smacked Hurley on the head and said “Dude! Live music!”.

Re: The Tree Monster thingy. Jack did mention that he thought the caves would be better for defending against “predators” because of the narrower entrance to them. That was about the only mention of it. It may be dark, but the only source of fresh water bit does still make it the better site.

Re: Plane wreckage. I did not get the impression that it was any other plane but there own. Now I am curious about what was said that made you think it might be another plane. I guess I’ll have to rewatch it a third time.

Re: Food. You’d think there would be some edible plants there too, but Sun only seems to be collecting beauty aids or pretty to look at plants. One can only assume that some of the other survivors are foraging for themselves as well.

My brother in law just ran over an underground hive when he was mowing the lawn. Bad stuff. He went to the hospital and they said that even though he wasn’t allergic, that when a swarm of bees hit you, they leave their venom (or whatever it is in their stingers) the next time you are stung it could be worse on your system.

These light versus dark themes are really providing “evidence” for my WAG that Jack is leading the group to heaven while Sawyer is leading the group to hell. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmm. Interesting point. Remember the lady who drowned after she went swimming. She didn’t want to be on the plane either. She was on a scuba diving vacation, got an ear infection so she couldn’t dive and was sent home.

Agreed, except for the fact that fresh water attracts all the other animals on the island, too. And when you’ve got polar bears and tree thumpers on the loose…personally, I’d be sticking with the dude who can catch fish with his bare hands.

Alright, I like my TV like I like my women and coffee… see, I like to have all the evidence and then I figure out what’s going on and then… ah, sod it. What I’m hoping is that a Francophone or a Hangugeophone who’s been taping the episodes can go back and translate the distress signal and Sun and Jin’s non-subtitled speeches.

For example, we don’t know what Sun says back to Michael before the boar hunt, and we don’t know what she says to Walt. Was it “you be good or I’ll tan your hide”? Or was it “if your daddy is gone more than a day, Jin and I are going to eat your scrawny ass”? Likewise, the valley girl’s translation of the distress call is probably solid, but it’s possible she missed something important–for example, the nuance noted above, where “il” can mean “he” or “it”. She assumed “it”.

I can’t believe Michael (a) bashed the axe against metal, and (b) destroyed the handcuffs. Does he know about the distress signal?

I’m going to have to make an Excel spreadsheet with all the secrets in rows and all the islanders in columns. Need to know if Hurley knows about the polar bear? Look up cell C12. We should be able to figure out pretty soon which of the castaways is in a position to make the next big discovery.

Jack and Gin should be the official drink of Lost.

I’d like something X-filish, right on the edge where plausable and fantastic collide.

In that case you’ll be at the caves because Jin and Sun went to the caves.

Yes. It’s called a “crash axe,” and it’s required equipment on all planes over 9 seats, IIRC.

(I doubt it looks like a woodland axe, though. Probably more like a hatchet.)

Dammit, I was scrolling to the bottom of this thread, hoping that I was the first one with this theory.

One black stone, one white stone; one male, one female. Two people won the lottery to go live in the cave & die

I made my half-Korean ex-boyfriend download it just so I could figure out what they were saying when the subtitles didn’t appear at the bottom. Unfortunately, he’s been swamped with homework, so he’s been unable to watch more than the first episode. :frowning: He did say the subtitles were very close and so far, nothing out of the ordinary has been revealed.

And he loved the first episode so much he immediately went and downloaded all six!

Thanks for the game tips ava. Don’t forget to pickup the gold watch off the beach and put it in your inventory. I got stuck where you did too.

When Jack discovered it in White Rabbit I thought it was part of their (the Original 48’s) jet, but in 1.6 I thought the fuselage looked smaller than the jet and that it might have been a charter flight or something that crashed on the island. The canopy seems pretty thick for it to have just crashed down there a week earlier.

Speaking of White Rabbit … when Jack discovered the doll in the water, did anyone else think it was an oblique tie-back to the girl who drowned?

Don’t know about the Korean, but here’s a translation of the distress signal, taken from this earlier thread:

In the spirit of admitting when we guessed incorrectly, I was waaaaay off when I said that Sun and Jin weren’t married or that they were newly married.
