Lost 2.15: "Maternity Leave"

The beard! All alone in a box! Kate never saw the boat people, did she?

If that’s Alex, I think she’s the girl that played a little girlfriend of Malcolm on “Malcolm in the Middle”.

Bluebeard’s beard is a paste-on?!! HAHAHA!

It was before. She had that dream with the airplane mobile, and with Locke with the one white eye and one dark eye, etc – at the start of episode 1x10 “Raised By Another”. She got Ethan-napped at the end of that episode.

I figured the beard was fake, it looked too over the top to be real. The show has the budget to make it look real, so if it looked over the top - then I figured it was.

What’s with the drama in cutting off the gotee?

Indeed. And the whole grungy look is an affectation as well… Hmmm…

Curioser and curioser.

HA – beautiful!

Locke: “If the alarm goes off, don’t tell him what it’s for.”
Eko: “What is it for?”

Great line.
Well, that was an interesting speech by Mr. Eko (to balloon-man).

Locke Smash!!

That guy is *so *an “Other” and is gonna mess with their heads till someone lets him go.

Balloon-Man planting the little seeds of doubt in Locke’s mind. Helping to further the potential conflict between the two “leaders”.

Interesting how Jack seems to be the one arguing more strongly for keeping Gale locked up (this week), when last week it was Locke who was all too willing to lock him in and let Sayid have at him, and Jack was totally against it all.

And still trying to figure out what that Eko speech was about, although it sounded like maybe he believed that Gale is, in fact, an “Other”, and that for some reason the Others are in fact the good side? And he wants their forgiveness? Else why would he say that he regrets his actions (killing the men who were dragging him off, rather than letting them drag him off, presumably). Is Eko about to switch sides?

Any other theories about that Eko speech?

Well, describing how he single-handedly smashed two guys’ heads open with a rock… maybe he’s trying to scare the guy a little?

Ehh. I think so, too, but they didn’t do a very good job with it: it was too transparent. Locke should have seen right through that.

Well, that episode was a big slab of raw meat for all of us fans.

No flashbacks, no silly subplots, just some straightforward moving the show along.

I took it to mean that Eko doesn’t believe Phileas Fogg to be too long for this world, and was requesting that he ask God to forgive Eko.

How did he know how to press Locke’s button about being told what to do and what he can’t do.

I’d say so too. But he wasn’t talking to us. He knew what Locke was already thinking and said it out loud. Things always sound convincing if you already believe them.

That said, this doesn’t prove things either way on Henry Gale. If he’s an Other, this could be part of the experiment. If he’s a regular person, this could be part of a strategy to divide up his captors and work on his release.

I will say however that if I was tortured and locked in a cell and the door opened and Eko walked in, I don’t think I’d have taken it as well.

That’s what I thought as well, though I also think he believes him to be an other.

Well, there were flashbacks, of a sort – just instead of flashing back to some aspect of Claire’s life before the plane trip, they were flashbacks to the missing part of her memory from Season 1. But in this case, they were all island activities, so it was a unique thing among all the flashbacks so far.

But this one was good – answered a lot of questions (like things that happened to Claire when she was away, how Danielle of the Scratched Arm fit in, etc.) and still posed new interesting ones. Nice.

And if that clean-shaven guy that Ethan spoke to in the hallway was in fact Bluebeard without the beard (I assume this is so, since M.C. Gainey was in the opening credits), then it seems he’s not the head hocho in these here parts, judging from the dialog:

Clean-shaven: “What the hell happened? You were supposed to make the list, and then bring her in. Was I unclear?!”
Ethan: “It’s not my fault. They knew I wasn’t on the plane! They had a manifest.”
Clean-shaven: “Well what am I supposed to tell him? You know what he’s gonna do when he finds out. Dammit, Ethan…”

Hey, since we know that BalloonMan can hear through the door - what else was said during the episode that he may have overheard?

The thing I found most interesting, which has already been mentioned, is the grungy clothes in the locker. The whole grunge-pirate schtick was a put-on…which means, to me anyway, that the whole bully-line-in-the-sand thing with Jack, Locke and Kate was an act (not to say they wouldn’t have killed them if they hadn’t given up their guns, but they were lying about their reasons).

It’s just you. Is that the sound you make when somebody’s pushing your buttons?

I went back and listened – and the alarm on our hatch’s button is higher pitched – although the noise in tonight’s that accompanied the flashes from scene to scene (the quick-flash parts) did have that klaxon-like quality to it, but definitely a lower pitch. More of a “ddbwwwwwoowwwwww” sound. Kind of nasal.

Am I overanalyzing meaningless details? Probably so.
