Arghhh, I missed the edit window. Here are my edited comments…
You know, I started writing about why I **thought **they were all flash forwards. I was going to say…
All the characters we saw seemed to have special knowledge that they had already acquired in the flash forwards.
When Faraday was watching the TV Footage, the woman with him asked, “why are you crying”. He said, “I don’t know” which to me implied something had previously happened to him on the island to cause him to cry.
When Miles was in the grandson’s bedroom, he knew there was something in the room by saying, “show me where it is”. I assume it’s through something he learned on the island.
CS Lewis obviously already knew about the polar bears and Dharma through the island.
However, the more I think about it, Naomi’s scene was obviously prior to the rescue mission which would make it a flash back. Also, the news report said everyone had perished, which is at odds with the fame of the “Oceanic 6”, so the news report must have been prior to their notoriety.
And Meltdown, you’re right about the pilot and the wedding ring. I guess I take back what I said.
That theory doesn’t work. We knew from last season that a crash had been faked so that the world thinks the survivors are dead. They faked it twice? And also, the pilot, his flashback definitely doesn’t fit in with it being a return from the island.
Another question: any idea who Ben’s “man on the freighter” is?
[spoiler]My theory: it’s Michael. Ben sent him with a precise heading, knowing he was going to hit the freighter. Michael and Walt arrived at the freighter, assuming they were going to be rescued (i.e., sent back home) when in fact they didn’t go anywhere. They pressured Michael for information on the people on the island (which is how they knew who Kate and Jack were). Somehow (maybe with a communication device left on the boat?) Ben was able to get in contact with him too.
In the flash forwards the Oceanic 6 have already been rescued. The public knows they are alive and that there were survivors. The TV broadcasts the pilot & Faraday watched said the bodies were counted and there were no survivors.
Also, Naomi was one of the ones in charge of putting those 4 together. She died on the island.
C.S. Lewis lady was a bit too interested in Claire’s baby, I thought.
Ben, being the master manipulator he is, usually has a reason for what he does, rather than just being nasty for fun. What on earth could have been a good reason for his taunting Sawyer about Kate? Or was this the exception that proves the rule?
If I’m ever taken to that island & asked which group I want to go with, my answer will be “Whichever group Sayid is with”.
Loved that boxed theory above about who might be Ben’s man on the boat!
What if it’s Michael!? I have no idea why that just popped into my head, but since he’s killed before maybe he’s now on Ben’s side… I don’t know, I just hope we eventually return to his character.
Not sure where I’m going with this, but the polar bear skeleton had me curious…what’s on the opposite side of the world from Tunisia? Well, it’s a place to the east of Australia and it might be the opposite of the world from the island. Considering that the island is a center of magnetic activity, could Tunisia be the “minus” to the island’s “plus”?
I noticed that Harold Perrineau(sp?), who plays Michael, was in the main credits for last night’s episode. I was expecting him to appear. So perhaps that adds credence to the Michael rows the freighter ashore theory?
One scene I found interesting was Miles telling Jack to give him the phone. Jack says “Tell me why you’re here and I’ll give you the phone.” Miles says “Give me the phone and I’ll tell you why we’re here.” Jack exchanges a resigned look with Sayid and gives Miles the phone. He never asks for his payback answer. sigh…
Hurley let slip that he knows about the cabin. Ben now knows that Jacob is trying to communicate with Hurley. The theory I have about why Ghostbuster Miles is on the team is that they need him to contact Jacob.
Wait, what? I just pulled that out of my ass. If that was actually a spoiler somewhere then I am so sorry! I don’t go to any spoiler sites so I have no idea what people are saying may happen.
They definitely knew that Juliet wasn’t on the plane, and had reviewed the manifest. It’s less clear to me whether they had descriptions or whether they just knew Jack and Kate by their voices.
Did Ben shoot Charlotte just to show the Losties that she was wearing a vest?
Yeah… because Jack and Kate had spoken with them on the phone several times.
Granted it’s a little bit of a stretch to think Faraday would just assume the first person he saw on the island was Jack and not some other guy living on the island, but I chalk this up to writer’s error.
I think it might be related to the show a while back where they were doing experiments with the rabbits. I can think they are (were) working on some sort of travel in spece and/or time. I think they transported that polar bear halfway around the world. Maybe transported the Black Rock too - I think Jacob is a sailor from the Black Rock and is 200 years old (and maybe dead, too). Someone upthread mentioned that the ghostbuster is there to talk to Jacob - I agree.
