Last night’s episode was terrific! It looks like Lucifer and Chloe are closer than ever, despite his mother’s courtroom machinations. And the big semi-reveal about Chloe’s true nature – WOW! I knew she was some type of special snowflake, but that was still a bit shocking.
And I loved Maze’s spectacular fight scene! Weird, wild, sexy stuff! Plus, she got some fun new toys! What’s not to like about that?
The only downside – no Trixie in this episode. I always enjoy seeing her interact with Lucifer and / or Maze…
Loved last night’s episode! Mom is so delightfully evil. The interaction between Lucifer and Detective Douche was fun, and Lucifer’s scene with the Chinese gang leader (“You speak Chinese?” “I’m the Devil. I speak everything.”)
I’m not sure how I feel about Lucifer and Chloe getting together. On the one hand, it’s nice to see them finally getting closer, but on the other, sexual tension is important to the series. If they get together this early, it might take the edge off the show.
Of course, given that (as I mentioned in post #2) I would tune in for an hour of Lucifer reading his shopping list, it won’t affect my enjoyment in the slightest.
I imagine that Lucifer discovering that his Father arranged for Chloe’s existence might make him back off a bit. Depends on if his affection for her is stronger than his rebellion against Him.
Disappointed that Amenadiel is such a patsy for Mum. Detective Douche, even though he’s a dirty cop and accessory to murder, seems to have more integrity than Amenadiel. When he fell, he fell far. He’s become a habitual liar with shifting loyalties. Though he still has far more of a moral compass than Mum, who really is cruel, selfish, and evil. I guess that’s why I’m so disappointed in him, his falling in with her plans. He is better than that.
Not sure…it looked like some kind of bioweapon, since the guy who took it (and broke one of the things in the case) got sick. I wonder who killed him, too. Another of the celestial crowd?
wuldnt make any sense in this show for the package to be a ‘bioweapon’ in the traditional sense - my guess is both the item and the guy retrieving it are celestials we have not yet met.
which is an easy guess to be sure… I like not knowing.
I wondered that too. It sure looked like he was crushing it, but I wasn’t completely sure.
I kind of wish they’d confine the “real devil” effect to his eyes, though. The devil makeup has always looked (to me, at least) kind of cheesy. I think he could convey the same meaning with the glowing red eyes and let the audience infer that he was showing them more.
Interesting perspective! I did notice that when Lucifer revealed himself to his therapist a few episodes back, he didn’t look at all scary. Just looked a bit pathetic and weird, to me.
That’s a good description of it! He doesn’t look scary at all. It’s kind of like back in the old days when makeup effects weren’t as good and they’d show you the “monster”–it would have been much better if they’d just let it lurk in the shadows and let the audience fill in the scary part with their own imaginations.
Of course, his intent wasn’t to frighten, in this particular case. He wanted to let her know about his identity in the most non-threatening manner possible. And she still freaked out, of course…
Yes. She got scared because she realized he was telling the truth, not because he was scary. Physical scariness – which usually just translates to ugliness – is a pretty tired trope, dating at least back to Frankenstein (the monster was an outcast because he was ugly and for no other reason) and even back to Shakespeare.
The thing that makes the show isn’t the plotting and supernatural silliness, but rather the character of Lucifer, who’s charming, funny, and delightfully self-centered. Last night gave him plenty of opportunity to show the character, especially with the parade of ex lovers. The groupie was also fun and I loved the fact it subverted the cliche of that stupid wall display with strings and arrows of outrageous connections, which also is growing pretty damn tiresome.
I don’t worry about the story arc; the show doesn’t seem all that interested in it themselves.
