The picture of Don in the middle of this map contrasted with his appearance this season clearly shows his descent into unkempt swarthiness.

Some other good article links here.

P.S. Note the Orange lines, “Affairs we’d like to see.”

Well he directed this episode. Usually when you see a director, he has a week’s worth of beard and a baseball cap. It’s tough to keep your toilette in order while also functioning as a full-time auteur. We’re lucky he looked that good.

I might be slow, but was Megan indirectly telling the neighbor that she had had an abortion? All that stuff about how they had grown up under similar moralities?

I was a bit distracted but I took away from it that one of the reasons she hadn’t told Don was because she was considering an abortion. And then the choice was made for her.

Even when he looks bad he looks good.

I was going to post this as a statement, not a question. I am reasonably sure Megan’s “Miscarriage” was an abortion.

That didn’t occur to me at the time. It’s possible but I disagree.

Megan didn’t have an abortion. Her entire point was that while she was considering an abortion because of the poor timing of her pregnancy, she miscarried.

“I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and I was so relieved that I didn’t have to do anything.”

Agreed. I just don’t see what the point of the whole charade would be, if she really got an abortion. She could have just gotten one and not told anyone, and no one would have been any the wiser. The whole point of the conversation was her relief that she didn’t have to make such a difficult choice.

I don’t think Megan’s m/c was an abortion. Abortions aren’t usually done as early as 6 weeks. 8 is more typical. But maybe back then you could get a d&c at 6 weeks.

I don’t see that at all. I think she’d love to have Don’t baby. What makes you think she wouldn’t?

It’s Catholic guilt. She *thought *about having an abortion, but then she didn’t have to. But just *considering *one & then having the miscarriage was enough to enact guilt. Megan feels she contributed to the miscarriage.

That’s my take on it.

I think that’s exactly it.

Has there been any discussion between her and Don about having kids? I’m having a hard time seeing Don doing the whole parent thing over again, even though he didn’t have to do much more than bring home the bacon. Still, those little critters have a way of interfering with your life, especially when you’re Don Fucking Draper.

I think she doesn’t know if Don wants a baby. His oblique “whatever you want” didn’t do anything to reassure her that he wants any more children.

I couldn’t tell if he said “whatever you want” or “whenever you want”. The 2nd one would have shown her he’s all in for more kids, but the 1st is pretty wishy-washy.

“Whatever makes you happy, dear.”

I assumed that Megan didn’t want to get pregnant because she knows it will mess up her acting career.

Season five, episode five:

Don: Let’s make a baby.

Megan: No, that’s impossible.

Don: What, isn’t that how this works?

So clearly it wasn’t “impossible” due to a fertility issue or she likely wouldn’t have been on the pill at all. Don’s marriage model hasn’t changed much from what he had with Betty. He still thinks kids are part of the deal, or at least he thinks that’s what a wife wants to hear.

Her burgeoning career.

Thank you!

The screen cap makes it even more dramatic. I can’t believe that’s not on purpose, especially with his fixation on death in the first episode.

Usually a “gun to the head” means you’re being forced to do something you don’t want to do, but he’s doing exactly what he wants to do.
