Mafia Reunion - Day One

Continuing to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Good luck.

@ Sunny Daze: the kill which the Mafia (wolves) get each Day (night) is considered a “factional” kill, which isn’t performed by any particular player. So the Watcher would get no information from watching the victim of that kill, but the Doc could protect against it.

She has my vote!

Er, i mean for rookie of the year. Time will tell as far as any other voters go.

NETA Auto correct votes not voters.

Just got back from holiday weekend. I have not caught up yet, but wanted to post before Dawn to ward against the mod-kill.

Well that’s a crappy outcome for Day 1. I don’t really have much of a right to an opinion on it since I wasn’t around enough to help, so I apologize for that.

I had only read up to about page 8 when I posted and at that time I likely would have voted for Septimus, but then removed my vote if I got to the page where he claimed EMT. So I’m very glad I didn’t feel I had enough information to place a vote then since I didn’t have a chance before the end of Day to read further and see the claim. I’m not sure who I would have voted for in the end.

It looks like all three players who died voted for Toejam? A weak point, but perhaps worth taking a look at?

After his claim, Septimus seems like the most obvious target for any malicious party with a Day kill. I think it seems far more likely that he was the regular Mafia Day kill than the Wolf Outrider getting lucky. I suppose they both may have targeted him and the third death was the result of a third party.

BoozySquid - I will take two of the house drink of the day please.

Hi.

I had a busier weekend than I was anticipating. Last I read carefully was last Friday afternoon, so I’m back in 900’s somewhere. I did skim and saw that Lakai was lynched and that there were two extra Day Deaths – one expected and one less expected.

I’m probably not going to be able to catch up before Dawn, and honestly, I don’t think that matters much.

The existence of the Watcher would not scare off the Mafia’s factional kill, because that can’t be Watched. It could, however, scare off the Outrider, who can be Watched. So there’s a reasonable chance that a single-outed-power-role would be targeted for a kill but not Outridden, which makes protection a reasonable choice.

Why do you think that? He had already declared himself as the EMT, and had said publicly that he would be self-protecting. That takes out all the luck from the Outrider targeting him, and discourages the Mafia from making the attempt. You’re positing two parties targeting him, one having absolutely no effect, and an unknown third party making the other kill: That seems like a lot of extra assumptions to make, when we can account for both kills using mechanics known to be in the game.

So now we’re just waiting, right?

I’m off to get more coffee. Does Boozy Squid serve in the morning too?

Well, we can continue discussing if we want to, but we can’t vote right now, we’re going to get more information in just a few hours, and most people need a break from the game.

I suspect only coffee with an Irish spike.

You would have been safe in any case. Mod Kill only comes into play after a full Day/Night (or Night/Day, I would assume) cycle. You posted on Day 1, so you would be OK as long as you posted again before the end of Day 2.

This thread is so long, apologies if you’ve addressed this already, but are you planning to continue voting for multiple people even though only the first vote will ‘count’?

I might as well ask, while we’re waiting, why do that anyway? Is it just a way to stack rank your “favorites”? Are the mods supposed to know to take the next one down if something “happens” to the first one on your list before the actual vote for that Day?

My reading of the rules is that the EMT is safe from ALL Day kills.

So let me first start with a question:

Am I correct in my interpretation? “Each Day you may target one player; that player will be safe from Day kills (but not from lynches) for that Day.” That means multiple kill attempts on the same protected target will all be saved?

So there are several possibilities:

  1. Septimus chose not to target himself
  2. Septimus just forgot to send in an order to save himself
  3. My interpretation is incorrect and multiple attempts to kill will result in at least one success
  4. Something else got through.

So let’s discuss #4. The Mafia roles all seem to work at night.

Town has killing roles, but would they target the only person to have claimed? Dunno. Would it even work to do so given the protection power? Dunno.

The wolves have the Outrider who can kill during the day. Is it possible that Septimus protected himself, the Outrider targeted him, that bounced back to Septimus as the protector of himself, and Septimus died? Again, would this even work if Septimus is immune from Day kills?

What about this: Both the Trickster AND the Outrider targetted him?
That’s the only way I see this working and it appears a very likely scenario given the claim.

Yup, that’s right.

Town’s only killing role is the Alternate Universe Batman, who only works at night. So we do know that nobody was targeted by a Town killer during the Day.

True. Town also has a Day roleblocker. It seems unlikely they’d target Septimus but…who knows? I guess it’s still a possibility.

There’s also the Town Wizard who had the option of protecting Septimus. I can understand why they might not have done so, given only 7 charges. But the ability existed and it’s very very unlikely that this protection would have been blocked.

** ENDER ** although you received an affirmative on your mod question, it still does not validate your idea that the EMT is immune to Day Kills. His ‘target was’ but not the EMT 'imself.
