Mandalorian Season 2 Thread [Open Spoilers]

As a Clone Wars viewer I for one was both blown away and moved by live-action grown-up Ahsoka. I thought the whole episode was just perfect except for Ahsoka performing a deadly attack without really knowing who Din was. Maybe that’s who she is now, but she seemed very level-headed the rest of the episode.

It’s comic-book logic. When two heroes meet for the first time, they have to duke it out for a bit before they realize they’re on the same side. Fodder for fan debates over who could beat who.

I mean, he was literally sent to kill her and Mandolorians and Jedi are supposed to be sworn enemies.

I’ve read different theories about when Gideon obtained Grogu’s blood for his experiments. My understanding is that Gideon’s people got Grogu’s blood early during season 1 when Mando briefly left Grogu with the Client. I’ve read some theories that Grogu was in the Empire’s hands at some point in between the execution of Order 66 and the time when Mando found him. That seems unlikely to me, but some fans seem to believe that to the case. What do you all think?

Given the way the Mandalorian is going, and with the possibility of the Ahsoka Tano / Thrawn spinoff, it wouldn’t surprise me if the sequel trilogy gets unofficially de-canonized going forward. Maybe they could replace it with another trilogy with brand new characters several hundred years in the future. Something with a middle aged Grogu still around but otherwise brand new characters and brand new issues to explore.

That doesn’t seem to fit with what we know. I’m guessing at some point we’ll eventually find out who saved Grogu in the first place and what he was doing all alone with a bunch of mercs in the first episode.

As someone who has only ever seen the theatrically-released movies, can someone clue me in as to why Ahsoka has WHITE lightsabers?

She retrieved the kyber crystals that are currently in her sabers from one of the Emperor’s Inquisitors. At that point, they were red, but she purified them with the Force, and turned the crystals (and, thus, the resulting blades) white.

To expand, the EU came up with the really stupid idea that lightsabers were operated by force-sensitive magic crystals. The red ones used by the Sith are evil force-sensitive magic crystals.

I much, much prefer the explanation given by Timothy Zahn in his Thrawn trilogy (which kicked off the EU in the early 1990s) which explained lightsabers as using a monofiliment reinforced by a force field–so pretty much like a Kzinti variable blade.

I think this is a pretty clear cut answer. They showed him on the table with the doc when Mando busted in. The first thing they did was retrieve the blood. Unless I’ve missed some extreme fan-wanking, I’d say these other theories are tinfoil.

But Ahsoka isn’t a sworn enemy with Mandalorians, she’s known quite a few and been friends with them. Not sure why her first instinct would be to attack one when she saw one. Did make for a cool fight scene though. My head was pretty much swirling when Ahsoka was on-screen, especially during her lightsaber scenes, so I may have to go back and re-watch this ep to catch more details.

I think the implication is that Ahsoka is inhabiting a world where pretty much everyone is an enemy. And she’s in the middle of a fight with a ruthless foe who absolutely would use bounty hunters as assassins. She had just threatened Elsbeth’s life and had given an ultimatum. She has every reason to believe that anyone seeking her out here is out to kill her. This isn’t a stretch. Frankly the fact that she was willing to listen when he said he wasn’t an enemy shows amazing restraint, I expected her to assume it was a con to get her to lower her guard.

I’m also one of those people who just now started watching the clone wars animated series. It seems they go a bit back and forth what time lines is concerned, to the point where there is an ‘official’ viewing order that is recommended:

For those considering watching Clone Wars, a bit of advice: Do NOT start from season one. The first two seasons are the weakest and pretty much completely skippable.

My advice is to start with the Season 4 story arc that begins with the episode “Shadow Over Umbara.” It’s only four episodes long, it’s almost completely self-contained, and it has some of the best writing in the entire series.

If you like that, go back to Season 3 and watch the Mandalore story arc, as well as the episodes focused on the Nightsisters of Dathomir. Season 4 is mostly solid, but there’s some nonessential episodes in there. Just make sure you watch everything involving Maul.

Seasons 5-7 are pretty much great and worth watching in their entirety.

Also remember that Ahsoka has been at war with Deathwatch when Maul sat on the throne of Mandalore. She also was nearly killed by him and probably doesn’t know he is dead (if he really is). So suddenly being attacked while on a planet that is basically a war zone after years on the run and I get why she reacted like that.

I really want the show to work in an episode with Donald Glover. Call it Lando and Mando…

This episode had some moments.

I wasn’t expecting a certain ship to show up. I wasn’t expecting a certain ship to blow up.

So this was a very fun episode.

If I had robot insides I think I’d want a little more than a flimsy velcro flap covering my organs.

You have more fragile meat parts and you are satisfied with less than that …

Why hadn’t Fett taken the armor from the Marshall?

Why send in cannon fodder stormtroopers for something that important when you have better elite forces?

Will a Jedi now aware of Grogu come into play? Or a Sith? More and more clear that Grogu is more possibly a future big bad than hero. Of course it could just be messing with us. Not being in on EU - is Maul still possibly alive now?

Nope.
