Though it’s unclear, that’s likely not a real book. As each episode is a “chapter” the prevailing theory is that next year’s Mandalorian will shift focus to Boba Fett ruling the underworld of Tatooine, and Din Djarin will become a secondary character. Or something like that. Another possibility is it will be two different series. In any case, not a physical book.
Man, my heart got to racing when that X-Wing showed up. I agree that this was similar to Darth Vader’s scene in Rogue One. It was just nice to see young Luke in his prime.
Season 3 should be interesting, with Din now the reluctant leader of Mandalore, and Bo-Katan wanting what she can’t seem to get. I actually hope they really focus on that story and move away from Baby Yoda next year. Do we know what state Mandalore is in by the time we get to Force Awakens?
Then the green lightsaber lights up.
Yeah, that too!
ETA: This is how I know I still love the Star Wars stories. They can still get my heart racing like I was 11 years old. And it’s not just with the Luke and Vader stuff. When I saw Ahsoka doing her thing with the two sabers, it was magical imo. And there were some amazing things happening in Rebels that I can re-watch over and over.

My guess is that this played well with the established fan base and not so much so with newer fans.
I know several people who are not Star Wars fans in the least who were watching entirely due to baby Yoda, i doubt they liked this one much.
Just finished watching. A few, disorganized, thoughts.
“Finally, the human element has been removed.” Finally? Finally?? Droid troopers came before storm troopers. I mean, the dark troopers are a lot more effective, but still, the basic idea of using droids as battle troops isn’t exactly new.
Without a pretentious, forced “grrl power” moment (I’m looking at you, Avengers: Endgame), the assault team was entirely made up of badass women.
Mando’s come a long way. He’s the one saying Mandalorian tradition is silly - just take the damn Darksaber. Also interesting that the Children of the Watch apparently didn’t even mention the Darksaber to their Foundlings, much less teach basic Mandalorian civics about how the throne is passed on and/or seized.
I was honestly a bit disappointed by Luke’s appearance. I mean, yeah, it was cool and kickass and all, but…it just made the universe seem so small. A whole Galaxy of characters and stories, and this one winds up just being part of the Skywalker Saga. Also, CGI still can’t quite get human faces. It was definitely better than Rogue One, but still uncanny valley for me.
The first two seasons were Chapter 1-16. It seemed pretty clear to me that Seasons 1 and 2 were the Book of Din Djarin, and Season 3 at least will be the Book of Boba Fett. We might get another Book of Din Djarin or a Book of Bo-Katan in the future, but I think their stories are done for now.
Which, I’m ok with. If they keep telling new stories that are this compelling, and switching the main character helps keep the stories fresh, I’m all for it.
The reason The Mandalorian plays so much into the Expanded Universe and is popular with EU fans, is because it is also the EU. It approaches this story in exactly the same way the novels, comics, games, and animated series do, which is to explore the in-between eras, with the side characters, and involving the incidents that are not touched upon in the main movies. So of course it will have call-backs to obscure characters and occasionally refer to the Skywalker saga. They all do that, and always have done that. Why would this be any different?
I took that to mean there’s a new series coming out about Boba Fett next year. How can Boba be “The Mandalorian” if he’s not a Mandalorian?
I don’t get this complaint. Based on the time frame we know there is one jedi who is actively seeking young force users. If you sent out a general notice to all force users if would be weird if that one guy didn’t show up. Even on the dark side kylo is still in diapers and his master is a weird twisted thing who is probably forming the first order but there should only be two possibilities maybe three if you count Ezra. It there were more random jedi floating around it really starts making Palpatine and Vader look like idiots.
I mean…the complaint is the complaint. The Mandalorian winds up being yet another part of the Skywalker Saga, and I was hoping it would be kept a bit more separate.
It also could have been some completely different Force wielder. Rebels firmly established in Disney-era canon that the Jedi and the Sith aren’t the only Force-using traditions in the Galaxy, that they have an incomplete understanding of the secrets of the Force, and that they are largely unaware of the other Force traditions.
When we see the guy in Jedi robes with the green lightsaber, it was clear it was, in fact, a Jedi, but even then I was actually holding out some hope it would turn out to be Ezra Bridger.
But, it’s not like Luke’s appearance ruined the series for me, or anything. I was just a little disappointed.
Disney would never abandon the cash cow of baby Yoda. Somehow, some way, baby Yoda will continue, only because there’s so much money in it if nothing else. And for similar reasons, unless Pedro Pascal doesn’t want to do it any more, I’m sure the show will continue as well.
This is Disney - money will trump creative concerns. Though in this case I think they’ve managed the creative side very well so far.
My theory is the Avengers forced “grrl power” was put in there as a big FU to online trolls complaining about women superheroes.
Bib Fortuna got faaaaaaaat.
I believe the polite term is “Huttesque.”
The show wasn’t part of the Saga for the first 44 minutes of the first episode of the first season. That ended the moment a freakin’ baby Yoda showed up. What happened today was, in one way or another, inevitable.
Didn’t Sabine just GIVE the darksaber to Bo Katan once?
So for those of us that haven’t seen all the animated series or read all the books, is there ever any explanation of why stormtroopers can’t hit the broad side of a bantha?
It occasionally gets humorously lampshaded, but as far as official, in-continuity, canon explanations…they actually are superior soldiers. When they face off against ordinary rebels, stormtroopers routinely defeat them. See the opening scene of Star Wars as storm troopers storm the Tantive IV. Even fighting from prepared defensive positions, the rebel troopers only kill a couple of storm troopers before they’re overrun and the ship is quickly taken.
The best fanspec I’ve seen is that basically every major character we see is actually Force sensitive, and is unconsciously using the Force to throw off the trooper’s aim and deflect the blaster fire. Basically, in-universe Plot Armor.
Beyond that…it’s Plot Armor. Storm troopers in-universe are supposed to be elite shock troops.
They actually manage to hit the characters encased in blaster proof armor fairly often, it’s those pesky unarmored characters they can never hit.
