Fair point. He does have Mandalorian battle armor, and a lot folks in-universe seem to assume he’s Mandalorian, and his story line is clearly a direct continuation of Season 3, so I don’t think using the title would be completely inappropriate.
Either way, I’m just not sure where they go with Din Djarin’s story from here. I think the story arc we’ve already gotten is pretty complete, and I won’t be disappointed if they leave him, and concentrate on other characters, at least for now.
Hard to tell how to feel about the Luke reveal besides distracted. No matter how seamless they attempt to insert a cgi character based on a real life person it will always be jarring. It takes you out of the moment as you can’t help but do anything but analyze the cgi.
Also getting weary of Favreau’s infatuation with hulking robots. He did them well in Zathura and Iron Man so he had to put them in here? Would have liked to see battling robots begin and end with the IG units.
Oh well. So any reason not to drop Disney+ for the next 11 months?
Also, based on EU material that was canon at the time, I think it was formerly established as canon that the main quality used in storm trooper selection is utter, fanatical devotion to the Empire. Storm troopers are disposable fodder. The Empire is a lot less concerned with their ability to hit someone else with blaster fire than with their willingness to unhesitatingly charge into blaster fire.
They have all the Marvel movies and are releasing some good movies over the next year. It’s a service with a lot of quality back-content and a good year ahead of them.
I paid for two years and have a year included free, so it only came to $4.50 or so up front and I have just under two years left. Even with the price increase that I’ll face in two years, we’ll probably keep it.
I guess I need to rewatch rebels but aside from force wolves or the planet monster I don’t remember other force traditions. I think clone wars had those three ultra force people but they all died and yoda learned the force ghost thing from the weird mask people but they were also bound to their planet.
Yeah, but then it’s not The Mandalorian, it’s The Mandalorians. And also a big shift from the Mandalorian With No Name, spaghetti Western it’s been until now. Which is fine, if that’s where they’re going. As I said, I think Din Djarin had a good arc were they left it, and I won’t be disappointed if they leave him for now. I also won’t be disappointed if they continue his story with the reclamation of Mandalore, if they do as good a job as they did with the Baby Yoda arc.
Hell, Rogue One gave us Chirrut Imwe, who, as a Guardian of the Whills, is not a Jedi but is clearly Force-sensitive and capable of wielding it to an extent.
I admit, I think I mixed up Clone Wars with Rebels. But both are Disney-era canon. Between them, we had the Force Priestesses, The Ones, Bendu, and the Night Sisters. Of those, the only ones the Jedi seemed to even have any awareness of were the Night Sisters. And the Ones and Bendu were extremely powerful, and along with the Force Priestesses, seemed to know a lot more about the Force than the Jedi and the Sith did. And the Night Sisters approached the Force in a very different way.
Plus Rogue One gave us a Guardian of the Whills, which also seemed to be a Force tradition that was allied to but separate from the Jedi.
And if there are that many, and that many that even Yoda was unaware of, how many more are there in the Galaxy?
I’m not saying it’s a plot hole or anything that Luke showed up. It’s logical, and consistent with the story up until then. But I don’t think it had to be Luke, and, like I said, I’m personally just a little disappointed that The Mandalorian wound up being yet another part of the Skywalker Saga. YMMV.
I really liked Din saying “oh, it has to be lost in combat? fine, I yield”. The combat doesn’t have to be to the death, apparently. Can’t they arm wrestle or play a game of Dejarik (holo-chess) or something?
Glad I stayed for the credits.
I thought it was established that Boba Feet is a Manadalorian, technically (or at least entitled to wear Manadalorian armor). Obviously he doesn’t really consider himself one.
Based on the 278 Star Wars properties announced, I don’t see how they would have a Boba and a Din show. (unless Din is in the Ahsoka show) I could see it centered on Boba, with Din showing up or possibly alternating Boba/Din plotlines.
Brian
Din completed his quest, is (reluctantly) rebuilding Manadalore next?
As Din pointed out in Season 1, “Mandalorian” is a religion, not a race. Boba has not accepted the Creed and thus is not Mandalorian, but is nonetheless entitled to wear the beskar armor because it belonged to his father, a foundling who did accept the Creed.
Yes, but Ezra Bridger picked it up in a temple* - it had been abandoned, at that point, and didn’t belong to anyone. He then turned it over to Sabine; I’d guess that since he’s not Mandalorian, it counted as being returned to its rightful people, no combat required.
I found the CGI on Luke distracting. Were it up to me, I would have had him keep the cowl up, and just show the lower half of his face. The voice would have been enough.
And, yet…I don’t care. I audibly gasped when the X-Wing came into frame, and I actually yelped with joy when the green lightsaber ignited. Did my old, jaded, cynical heart some good to just have a brief moment of joy.
“The Darksaber doesn’t have power. The story does.”
In Rebels, the Darksaber is a long-lost artifact. The simple fact of its recovery, and Bo-Katan’s possession of it, is a powerful story. At some point after that and before The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon destroyed Mandalore and seized the Darksaber during The Night of Thousand Tears. That’s a powerful story. Whoever defeats Moff Gideon in personal combat and re-claims the Darksaber has a powerful story. Having it handed to you by the guy that defeated Moff Gideon, for an honor-bound warrior culture, is a weak story. Bo-Katan lost it. They only way she can regain her honor and the power of the Darksaber’s story is for her to reclaim it in true battle with an enemy.
The ending was was one the most fantastic season finales in TV history. Frankly I was expecting Obi Wan Kenobi, not who we got. Star Wars fans must be marking out and they should. What a great TV show.
