I won’t. Pick me and you’ll wake up on the train with a new tattoo and nickname from the porters.
Hey, mouse, if you take the train to Pittsburgh (the properly spelled one in PA, not the misspelled one in CA) , I’ll get you a Primanti’s sandwich with French fries and coleslaw on it, no corsage or tattoos, and I’ll consider respecting you in the morning!
Late bopping in today. A former colleague of mine is in hospice with only a week or two left to live, and while I worked with her quite a bit, some other friends were much closer and have been upset, as we just got the news today, and she’d been doing well a month or so ago, so part of today was spent bolstering. She’s a kindly person with endless patience who was treated poorly by the district.
I also walked to the Big Bullseye store to get a toy to donate to Toys for Tots. Then I walked to the store to get a few things for the weekend. I’m treating myself to a good poke chop on Sunday, the thick kind from the butcher block. Yum. I haven’t had a good poke…chop…in ages.
Which reminds me…Moooom, mind sharing your chicken rub? (That sounds dirty. I assure you, I am not into menagarie a trois.)
I got so far behind, I may not have read all the posts. Well, Mr. Popularity, aka MetalMouse, looks like you could start a bidding war if so inclined. Insist on a giant bowl of M&M’s with the brown ones removed like Van Halen or a boa constrictor like…uh…some band I can’t recall. Maybe Pretzel’s available. Of course, shoe would have to transport him to Chicago, which I think is the nearest Amtrak station to her. I believe Pretzel’s contract stipulates a limo with ample room for his agent (shoe) and a fully stocked wine cellar (Yes, on the limo. Pretzel doesn’t work for peanuts.)
wordy, VERY glad to hear no chemo for your mom! Woo-hoo! (And I, too, read “life” into that sentence.)
I think I missed a bunch of stuff, but the dryer is calling me. Hugs to all, whether you want 'em or not. Hold still, dammit. (This is what’s called tough love.)
Know what you mean…me either. Sigh.
Pretzel is a girl. I know this because shoe and I have had extensive chats about Pretzel’s sex life via FB messenger. But then we muse extensively about everybody’s romantic footprint. Details may be had for a price.
And nellie, if you weren’t an English or Creative Writing teacher, the world missed out. Dang, but you have a way with words.
It makes my heart happy to see so many states, that ten or fifteen years ago wouldn’t even dream of considering thinking about maybe talking about legalizing it, have started ballot initiatives, etc.
Seconding the Gewürztraminer recommendation, by the way. Look for a super tall, blue bottle for something sweet but not quite hummingbird nectar.
Friends help you move.
Good friends help you move the body.
Okay, by this point in the thread ^^ I was LOL’ing uncontrollably.
Well done, @BippityBoppityBoo and the rest of you.
metal mouse we look forward to the next installment of pearl-clutching corsage swaps. Or was that nellie with her poke … chop.
I like the way you think.
And now we know what kind of wine to stock it with.
Happy to hear talky’s mom doesn’t need chemo and really happy that sari’s just taking a break. I get nervous when frequent posters drop out of sight.
Decided to make bolognese today (Saturday) so it’s cooked, but we’ll eat it tomorrow, also to let the flavors meld. This is the recipe from Jamie Oliver which includes bacon and sun-dried tomatoes. Might have to go open a bottle of red.
Bought and opened a smaller bottle of white wine for a recipe, so I’ll be drinking that later today with the leftover Indian food.
Today’s task is to go through 3 boxes of pictures and papers and make some sense out of them. I got some boxes from Ikea which have the advantage of being the same size, so they are easier to handle and stack nicely on the Ikea shelves in the cellar.
It’s currently just above freezing and overcast. So we’ll probably wait until after noon to go for a walk, to take advantage of the warmest part of of the day. Which might reach 38 American. We’re going to have to walk fast to keep ourselves warm. After that, there’ll be cookie making. The baking will be tomorrow.
Happy Saturday!
Happy Saturday back at you. Hope you enjoy the walk. 3:21am here so I’d best be toddling (more like stumbling) off to my down duvet and narrow bed.
Having edited out all the suggestive stuff from your post (you people are a bunch of horn-dogs!!!) I hereby offer the All-Purpose Rotisserie Rub from the Ultimate Rotisserie Cookbook. It works just as well with roasted meats (and veggies, I suppose) and I even dumped some into the chickie salad I made yesterday.
2 T sugar
1T garlic salt
1T onion salt
1 t celery salt
1/4 t cayenne pepper
1/3 C sweet paprika
1 T black pepper
I recommend keeping it in an airtight container that can be shaken up to keep it well-mixed. Some recipes call for mixing it with olive oil before rubbing it on the meat/fish/poultry. T=tablespoon, t=teaspoon, C=cup. Enjoy!
As for wine, there have been some that I’ve enjoyed in the past. In college (I was over 21 - really!) my go-to was White Mateus. Can you even get that any more? On a cruise, my mom and I had some Port that was really good. I’m wondering if my sense of taste has changed that much in my old age.
In any event, one thing seems to be becoming evident - wine helps me sleep, but gives me weird dreams. Last night, I got nearly 9 hours, and part of them were spent with shoe. Only she was working in Baltimore, and by “working” I mean she and a bunch of coworkers were sitting around a table, just hanging out. At some point, there was a moose swimming in the Inner Harbor. Then the whole story switched to me trying to figure out how to use a rather large cutting tool that my grandfather wanted me to master… except my grandfather died in 1996 and the tool in the dream was a weird contraption that I’m pretty sure doesn’t exist. Shiraz is messing with my sleeping brain!
It rained all night, and it’s really windy right now, and dreary. After I gather the towels, I’ll head downstairs to run a load in the washer and continue deconstructions, since I didn’t do any of it yesterday. I may even fire up the wood stove down there if it’s chilly and damp. FCD is trying to wrap up an analysis project that’s been a major headache. And theoretically, I’ve got two items being delivered today - we shall see if FedEx comes thru.
Speaking of train treks - FCD and I talked about doing something similar to what MetalMouse described. But all this talk of tattoos has me rethinking…
Onward and downward! Happy Saturday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until just after seven A.M. ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 62 and N.O.S. for the day. A nice fall day here in southwest Jawja. I shall betake myself over to the church house around eleven to assist with the last of the pee-kahn rollin’. There is an area between the playground/dog park and the road with several trees that have been prodigious producers of pee=kahns this year. Hopefully the ground will be dry by eleven, which makes things easier. Anywho, we’re thinkin’ two to three hours of rollin’ ought to do it. We shall see. I shall call OYKW when I am leavin’ so’s he can place an order at the Chinese place down the road which I shall pickup on my way back to da cave. It’ll be a late N.O.L./early sup for us. I want Mongolian beef and he’ll probably swipe the General’s chikin.
Glad to know sari is OK. Sometimes a break is needed. Hope she’ll be back soon.
Metal Mouse ain’t it nice to know you’ve got so many axe murderers friends who want to meet you!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should make myself somewhat presentable as I am to be around other people. Such bother!
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
A nice poke chop sounds good nellie. I like to fix them with apples and onions this time of year. I’m sorry to hear about your friend. May she be at peace when the time comes.
shoe, you’re right about states reconsidering their stance on medical MJ. Tennessee ( an ultra red state outside of Memphis and Nashville) has been considering it for a couple of reasons. The first is to find another crop for tobacco growers who are losing market (ya know, business first) and the second is to possibly alleviate the opioid problem (truth, I’m kidney compromised leaving whole classifications of pain relievers out of the question and am prescribed a low dose opioid. Frankly, it does some evil things to my digestive system, not to mention the addiction possibilities, that I have to be in pretty serious pain to take them. Pot doesn’t have any of those issues).
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of jeans ready for the dryer and a load of shirts/undies ready for the wash. Once KP is done, I’ll get sheveled and head to Kroger to pick up the rest of the groceries. If nothing is falling from the sky, I’ll take Nelson to the dog park this afternoon and maybe even assemble my new studio chair.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
What have I been up to, you ask? Lessee…
The wall is completely down, and all nails and screws have been removed from the 2X4s, which are now stacked in the closet. All the OSB for shelves is leaning against a wall out of the way. All the wood to be discarded is in a pile by a column - much of it all needs to be cut to smaller pieces. I’ve swept as I’ve gone along, so the floor is relatively clean.
Simultaneously, I did a load of towels, then a load of jeans. And I got a fire going and brought in a load of firewood (some was soaked, but it’s drying in the hot basement. I hung the intercom station on the wall so I can talk to FCD out in his shop.
Now it’s time for a sammich, then I need to fold the towels and put them away. Once that’s done, the jeans should be dry. Then I can start marking the walls where the shelves will be mounted. And I need to gather all the stuff I’m taking to my daughter’s house tomorrow. I found a pair of SIL’s work pants in the basement - how random!
Something tells me I won’t need wine to sleep tonight…
Well, folks, I’m about to be out of a job again. The new stay-at-home order goes into effect at 10 pm tomorrow. So I have two more days of irk and then another unplanned vacation. Back to the %$&@# unemployment website.
It’ll be interesting to see if people stay away this weekend ahead of the order, or if everybody tries to squeeze in one more day at the zoo.
Shoe, you might be interested in this: The House of Representatives has voted to decriminalize marijuana. I get that decriminalization is not the same as legalization, and that the Senate will absolutely not go along with this. But it’s a step in the right direction.
Mooom, among wine snobs, sweet wines are often regarded as cheap and lowbrow. While that’s not necessarily the case, it can indeed be difficult to find a good quality sweet wine, so people who favor sweets often conclude that they don’t like wine. There are good wines out there for you, if you’re interested in finding them. My advice is to visit a good bottle shop (Total Wine & More seems to have a strong presence in Merry Land), and tell them exactly what you like and don’t like. They’ll have some suggestions for you. Good luck!
Just back from a Taco Bell breakfast run. AM crunchwrap and two Cinnabon bites are happily digesting. Occurs to me to wonder, especially these days, how frequently people go through drive-through in sleepwear. I didn’t, I did pull on jeans and a sweatshirt, but was tempted to just go in my nightshirt (which is quite modest). Kitchen mining, recycling, kitty claw clipping, and picking up my Instant Pot from MegaMart are on today’s game plan.
I remember Mateus fondly…I can’t say that I was always over 21 though. I love port also. Sadly haven’t near a bottle for decades. I should change that-there’s a lot to be said for slow sipping with your feet propped up close to a pellet stove or fireplace. I promise to use a coaster with my port glass.
Offer of a corsage, hugs and a good picnic basket through the train carriage window holds for you, too. Give me a couple days notice so I can cut my scary Covid hair. Said picnic basket will come with wine and chocolate, to be sure.
I echo this advice. Those folks are great and usually can get you a lot of bang for your buck. Ask about calvados while you are there. Potent but pleasant. I always imagine I’m a Highlander wandering those gorgeous moors as I sip. Granted calvados is French apple brandy and moors are Scottish but it’s my mind and I can time travel in it where I want…
Oh, wheelie, I wish I could do something from afar. Here’s {{{{ you and yours }}}}. Come here and bitch often, long and loud about @%#$*!£ unemployment. Been through that at my house, in a dark red, unrepentant state, so it was ugly. Sending good karma your way.
It definitely won’t happen till plague has passed, especially since we’ve got 3 cruises booked next year, tho one might slip to 2022.
Just finished playing electrician so now it’s time to mark the walls. Then I quit.

Occurs to me to wonder, especially these days, how frequently people go through drive-through in sleepwear.
Few weeks ago I got a case of the “fuckits” and went thru the Wendy’s line in my bathrobe. As in, only my bathrobe.
Marked one wall, then quit. Which worked out, because when I came upstairs, FedEx was delivering the fire pit and FCD’s shoes. Skechers added some goodies - a mask, a backpack/tote bag thingie, a deck of cards, and a phone/tablet stand. I grabbed the stand for me.
I looked up the tracking number for my Roku - it got to my post office, then left my post office, but not for delivery. I’m wondering if it’s because of their sickies - I’d heard that some of the work was being farmed out to neighboring post offices. We shall see.
The rest of the stuff is still in delivery limbo, altho UPS tells me one of Roxy’s gifts will come today. So we shall see.
I gathered together much of the stuff I’m taking tomorrow - slowly getting all of their crap out of our house! SIL is supposed to come empty the shelves in the garage once he has a day off. Then we can move the shelves and free up more space for the vehicles. Parking is a tad tight.
Meanwhile, I’m suddenly pooped, and a bit achy. And hungry. I suppose I should think about supper…

I’m sure of two things: you weren’t the only one and it made their day.
Many a morning the teen roomie gets driven to middle school in my pjs with a baggy jacket thrown over them for reasons of decency (and to disguise the fact that there ain’t no way I’m putting on a wired corset, uh, bra to drive some clueless but adorable pal to school. A McDs breakfast dollar menu drive through often happens on the way home. I always pray that I don’t get rear-ended and have to go to an ER, but I’m sure ERs have seen worse-rebels in only a bathrobe for instance.
