Snow has completely covered what WBT’s son accomplished yesterday - his effort this morning consisted of merely blazing a person side path to his dad’s car - of course, that’s moot since the plow hasn’t come through yet
eta: btw - I am outing ems for revealing herself to me on facebook - you (and y’all know who y’all are) have received a “friend suggestion” from me.
I feel special rosie thanks! It was the link to the cute kitty pics this morning that lead me there!
It has been decided in our office this morning that ‘The Stupid’ should have an associated pain penalty. ‘The Stupid’ has been running rampant in our organisation today. Sometimes very intelligent people really have no idea what goes on in the real world.
Well, I’m showered, dressed more or less presentably (OK, I’m wearing the sweats I wore yesterday, but it’s not like I sweated in them…) I’ve emptied and refilled the dishwasher, sorted the laundry and started a load of towels, and, um OK, that’s all so far. I will run the vacuum and knit - I’m almost done another kidlet afghan.
And I may go out later today and shovel a bit. Maybe. Possibly. Perhaps. It is a tad brisk. And windy. And I am a delicate flower of womanhood, dammit!
My sympathies to all who are snowbound in the frozen nawth. It is bad enough that it was 35 degrees here this morning and we are doomed to cold weather for the next four or five days. I hates it.
I’ve been sending out resumes every day but have seen no action yet. Unemployment really blows! I hates it.
Where’s my TV? The delivery appointment was 8-11 AM.
I’m going to come unglued if I find that the landscape construction next door has anything to do with it. The neighbors have ripped out their back yard and have put in a new patio and a small forest of trees. One of the landscapers’ trucks was parked on the street on trash day and blocked in our trash bin. Naturally, the trash pickup skips over us, so we have an extra-full can for next week.
(((Taters))) I’m sorry that sucks so badly. Good luck with finding a better job.
Glad the hair got fixes, rigs.
Sorry for missing you birthday, doggio. Happy belated!
I’m baking coffee cake. My mother just kidnapped Gnat- I’m going out to a fairly local homeschool group with a woman I know, in hopes of meeting a bunch of people who can reassure me that this is possible. We have a bunch of friends our age who were homeschooled, and I know a bunch of homeschoolers online, but I want real life personal examples, preferably who will talk me through my panic as we get closer to school age.
And who know the local regulations regarding education, testing, and checking in.
For socialization, we’re going to beat our kids up for their lunch money and lock them in a closet. It will be exactly like grades 7-8. All our friends who were schooled at home are way more socially adept than we are.
My unprofessional and inexperienced opinion - homeschooling works when the parents have brains and know how to use them. I expect it also requires some serious self-discipline.
**LiLi **- you seem to be pretty smart. And I don’t see you as a bon-bon snarfing, Oprah-watching layabout, so you should make a pretty good teacher. Except you forgot wedgies. Sheesh, get it together!!
Daughter and SIL just called - they’re off I-95 and heading to 301. She’s going to stop at school in the hopes that the office is open and she can get in to feed any of her fish which may still be alive… Then they’ll be home. I’ve got a pile of towels to fold and a load of sweaters and sweats in the dryer. And I need to come up with something to do with leftover chicken - I’m thinking chickie and noodles. Or something. Who knows?
I have a feeling that any curriculum LiLi designs will probably include a higher-than-average percentage of A. A. Milne and Rudyard Kipling. Which is to say, it will include some. I’d suggest the occasional swirlie to keep Gnat in line too… no education is complete without them.
Hope the TV showed up, gotti.
OK, time to get some work done. I’ve been pretty directionless for the past couple of weeks, but I’ve finally sorted out a task that I can do, want to do, and need to do. Hurray.
Daughter just called me - amazingly, all of the fishies survived!! But she said the eel was HOOONNNNNGRRRRYYYYYYYYY! And she said the water level is low, so she’s going to try to go in tomorrow and add some. Anyway, they should be home in half an hour.
I just finished skimming the snow off the driveway. It’s very sunny out and I wanted to open as much cement as I could to the warmth so maybe the icy parts will start melting. I didn’t get to the front walk, but I may try that a little later.
Shoveling is hard work - even when it’s just a slushy inch. I hate winter - have I mentioned that??
And I just figured out how to see someones signature - WOOHOO!!!
(Hey! It ain’t much but I’m proud of myself for it!)
I found an old knobbie tire that probably would fit the wife’s Yamaha and I’ve been staring at my tool box with bad intent. She says roostertails are NOT an approved snow removal method and I say “You sure about that?” Time will tell which of us is right.
I have threatened the nasty weather and told it to stay away. I just know that will be all it takes.
I have chicken boobs and rice bakin’ away in the oven. It’s startin’ to smell sooooo good! I’ll steam some green beans and squishes to go with and bein’ as I feel all slothful, will bake up some frozen bizkits. Should be a nice comfortin’ and nummy dindin.
RATS! The TV is stuck somewhere north of here in the snow. All they can tell me for sure is that it’s between Pennsylvania and here. Looking at the weather and the number of interstates that have been completely closed, it’s probably still in Pennsylvania.
Oh well. I can’t complain too badly - the shipping was free.
My baby got home safely. They cleared a place for her to park, so we won’t have to shuffle cars on the morning. And my driveway clearing did the trick - most of the ice is gone - yay! The street, on the other hand, is awful, but such is life.
We had yummy chickie and noodles for supper. I used some leftover chickie, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, and noodles, all cooked in some chickie brother I’d made and frozen. After the veggies were tender, I shook up some half-n-half with some flour, poured it in, and let it all thicken. We served it with italian bread. And there’s enough left over for my lunch tomorrow. So yay.
The kids have gone to have coffee with their friends, my dishwasher is washing, and I’m about to assume the knit position. All in all, not a terrible day.
Now, we’ll see if I can get all my work done tomorrow so I don’t have to go in on Saturday…
taxi you need to tell KT to quit lettin’ those colds follow him home. Maybe he could take a different route and throw 'em off course.
Dindin was nummy and comfortin’ too. Just nice down home food on a cold day. I’m thinkin’ chili with toppin’s and cornbread for tomorrow night to continue the comfort food theme. Plus I have some chili in the freezer already, so heat 'n eat!
gotti look at this way. You still have a brand spankin’ new teevee to look forward to!
The really bad thing about cold weather, beside it bein’ well, cold, is it makes me want to snuggle down in my bed under a blankie and sleep all the time.
Doggio, I’m a Pirate. Do you want me to never speak to you again?
I love how all my UNC friends are like “At least we’re classy enough not to brag when we win!” Apparently lying lies out of your lying mouth is a popular pastime at Chapel Hill.
You’re the kind of person who can do a great job of home-schooling, LiLi. Just the fact that you’re worrying about it now and finding RL resources and contacts is great. I suspect Nat & co. will learn lots and lots without actually noticing that it’s school. Good foundation for lifelong learning, I think.
Home to Valentines and a postcard. Valentines included ones from niece and nephew - with chocolate! Guess I should go find something to send back!
All my data crunching is done! Yay! I have some clean-up stuff to do, but it will wait till next week.
Still deciding what to have for dinner. Maybe potatoes and carrots.
My secret lazy trashy Mom secret is still safe. I’m trying to convince Mr. Lissar and Attacks Husband that it’s important for my health that I lie around on the couch eating chocolate all the time, but it’s not working so well.
Thanks, everyone. The homeschooling thing went fine, and I conquered my natural inclination to hide in a corner and not talk to anyone, and met several very nice people. So that’s good.
