I just spent 12 hours on facebook. Envy me. I am going to bed now.
There was some report about a Canadian official asking all his countrymen to wave the flag, cheer, and make noise ------ and go back and apologize for it after the Olympics. This opening is really good though; really loving it.
Drat, NBC doesn’t have it up online. They always fuck over people without cable. Why does this surprise me? Hopefully they’ll have the opening stuff up tomorrow so I can watch it in the evening after work. Jerks.
The flight out today didn’t happen so my very sad but very awesome boss actually came into work today, and will again tomorrow. I don’t know how she did it. She’s leaving Sunday.
swampy, I saw the radar earlier today and thought of you. And laughed. running away I remember seeing snow in Georgia when I was there, it’s not all that unheard of!
The answer to that question would be yes. She even slept with me last night! Today we will start the painful process of teaching the princess to sleep in her own bed again (she spent the last two weeks bunking down with Daddy!).
Sorry you can’t see it, snowbunny. I’m grateful to be somewhere with reasonable broadcast reception. Cool opening so far, except for a bit too much poppy stuff for about 10 minutes. They just finished an awesome fiddle/tap set. And I think that’s Donald Sutherland reading at the beginning of sections. Also…Joni Mitchell!!! (I sure hope that she’s actually there; they’re focusing on a guy flying through the air) (Both Sides Now - totally one of my favorite songs)
I’ve been organizing notecards, greeting cards and…postcards. Had them distributed a bit too widely across drawers. Found the postcards I needed for the postcard exchange. Yay!
Should start thinking about falling asleep.
GT
Tomorrow. Yep. Surely they will have it online tomorrow.
I gave up cable and don’t have an antenna. A few hours too late I got an offer for money to get cable for a month or two, but I decided since I’m only an hour later than any of the action and my work hours are a bit strange I’d be missing most of the live stuff I’d want to watch anyway so there’d be no real point. So NBC better get those ceremonies online tomorrow because I want to have a nice evening watching them, and other stuff.
One of the snowboarders…gaaah, I forget who, I’ll look tomorrow…grew up right around here. I hope he does well.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN It’s my Firday!
The snow stopped around sevenish last night. I was just out on my back porch and it’s meltin’. YAY!!! Well, off the roof anyways cause I hear the dripdripdrip from the rain gutters. Except right now I guess they’re snow gutters.
All this means the temps are above freezin’ and must have stayed that way over night which is a good thing for folk like me who must go to work in a while.
Dotty good look with the retrainin’ of HRH.
Ruble Wild Adventures is like seventy miles away from me. I’ve been a few times but since I am not big on amusement parks it’s been a while. They do put on some good shows however.
Ok, need to check out FB and feed rumbly tummy.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Up and eaten brekkie…no hot water today and given it is a Saturday I am going to be very surprised if it is back on before Monday. Which will suck.
On the plus side I have nothing to do today
How long until you move out, mmmmmms? Having no hot water is Teh Suck, been there before when the boiler packed up and it was a bank holiday weekend.
Happy Caturday, mumpers! I have things to do today which obviously I am not getting on with because I’m here instead. I need to get showered and make myself presentable to go into town, got a bundle of errands to do and I need to take 'im indoors shopping for a new suit. He has an interview on Monday and since he only got called about it yesterday, there’s no way he can get any of his suits dry-cleaned in time. So we’s going shopping for a new one - probably for the best since I doubt his old ones still fit. But he won’t try them on, he’s a bloke.
Tonight is Date Night and we’ll be going out for curry. I have been beyond good, stuck religiously to my diet plan and have banked a heap of Fat Club Naughty Points so I can use them tonight for yummy food and beerverages. I am pretty sure this great plan will backfire on me horribly in some way, but for now I am feeling virtuous and getting busy polishing my halo.
Tomorrow I will be having a lie-in, then I intend to channel LiLi and bake some bread. There may also be knitting, who knows?
I think it snowed about an inch here in TVLand, at least enough to cover my car.
It’s very early, but I think it’s almost naptime as I’ve been up since 3:30. I just had a nice cup of hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows because it’s too early for breakfast, too.
Up way too early thanks to the menagerie here. I suspect Bernie was the one who peed on the family room carpet because Scruffy couldn’t possibly hold that much liquid in her little bladder. I really should run the carpet cleaner thru this room. Everyone is fed and the cat box is cleaned. I was hoping to be heading out for an early breakfast and WalMart stop, but the household is asleep - big surprise.
I only watched a wee bit of the Opening Ceremonies as I finished (FINALLY) my latest baby afghan. Pics later. Anyway, I was somehow gratified to see that other people like to jazz up their national anthems. Criminy, can’t you just sing it straight and save the vocal embellishments for pop songs?? I’m not a psycho, over-the-top-love-it-or-leave “PATRIOT”, but I still think it’s wrong to make a national anthem a performance piece. Just knock it off! I have spoken!
I went to bed before the parade of nations was over. It’s just not my thing. And the inane interviews before it all started - WHAT ARE THEY TEACHING IN JOURNALISM SCHOOL!!! Silly me - expecting talking heads and news readers to have gone to school to learn that…
OK, no more grumping, even tho we’re being promised more white crap falling from the sky. I’m going to play with clay this weekend, after daughter and I finish clearing the path to the oil tank. But first, I need to get my fambly up and moving so we can get water for the aquarium, then have breakfast. Bob Evans probably wonders what happened to us!!
Happy Saturday!
That’s one advantage of having a national anthem with no lyrics. There was a contest… I think it was last year… to get some, but after a winner had been declared and some moron of a reporter with too-good connections criticized the lyrics for being “patriotic, gushy and kind of kitschy”, TPTB decided not to use them after all. People were asking “aren’t national anthems supposed to be patriotic, gushy and a tad on the kitschy side? I mean, it’s kind of hard to call any of them High Poetry, helloooo”, but to no avail. So in Spain we have the choice of either singing that Franco’s ass is white because his wife uses Perlán to wash it or just going chunda-chunda-ta-chunda-chunda-chunda-chunda-chunda-daaa, ta-chunda-chunda-daaaaa…
ETA: uhm, sorry, I don’t know how to phunik this, but those u in chunda are short oo’s
Back from a quick trip to the grocery store…paths are slippery and dangerous out there.
But…
I have heat and hot water back! : Happy Dance :
Not sure WTF happens in this stoopid building that the heat and water go out on a regular basis…grrrrrr
Now eating lunch and watching Big Bang Theory Season 1…love this show
Oh boofae I should be outta here by the end of March visa/lawyers/US Gummint permitting
Yay on the late March departure date, Mmmmms, as well as on getting the heat & hot water back now. Glad that Swampy’s snow is melting and happy Firday to him. BooFae, enjoy your date night tonight–all will go well.
Yesterday’s commute was a very long one, both to and from work, so I’m really glad that I didn’t attempt to go in. The snow had claimed at least one lane of most road, so there were just too many cars/buses/trucks etc. for the already crowded streets! And the metro derailed again on top of it all. Only minor injuries, but they’ve really got a problem, unfortunately.
Happy Saturday all!
Up and caffeinating. I’m just about ready to go make some breakfast.
What a wild week I’ve had. Last weekend I hurt my knee, and have been limping around. Monday I took off work to go get my glucose sensor implanted. Tuesday I went to work. Tuesday night I took one of my Dad’s pain pills because my knee frickin’ hurt, dammit. Wednesday I went to work, and was called in for a random drug test. You can’t refuse to go, and I was freaking out! I don’t have a prescription for hydrocodone. So I told my boss, and he said don’t worry. I still worried. On Thursday, I went to the doctor, and he wrote a prescription for me, and ordered an MRI for my knee.
All day Thursday and most of Friday, I waited for a phone call from the testing place. I finally breathed easy last night. They won’t be calling. (The test-giver said they would call within 24 to 36 hours if there was anything wrong, like opiates showing up on your drug screen.)
I am so relieved.
I watched a lot of the ceremonies, but slept through some, too. I loved the flying guy to the tune of “Clouds” - is that the name of it? And the poet up on the huge dais was great!
Off to make brekkies! Stay warm and safe, all of you!
I’m ever so pleased that Canada decided to show the world a side of Canada they’d never seen before. Y’know, the side with polar bears, and ice, and snow, and northern lights, and lots of dancing Native people.
On the bright side, I am incredibly pleased at the musicians they selected (well, except for the Nelly Furtado and Bryan Adams duet… that was BAD), and at the lack of Celine Dion (tho apparently she’ll be showing up for the closing ceremonies… ack!). Especially kd lang… can that woman sing or what?
Making apple-cinnamon buns for The Boy. He got home from work at nearly 1am last night, and he still has to go back to work today to do some more. I’m rather unhappy.
Dammit, Swampy, you were supposed to keep the snow to yourself! And I’m looking at you, too, Puggy :dubious:
Shots are at a swamp known as Twin Bridges, about a half mile east of the VunderLair.
So, if someone goes to all the trouble to deliver still warm and gooey pecan rolls to your house, aren’t you obligated to eat a couple even if you’ve already eaten breakfast a couple of hours ago?
VBob, those are beautiful pictures! :p:D
Aaaaah! Those pics are in SinCity colors!
Guess we should be grateful there isn’t any red visible… did some true friends give you a hand with that, VBob?
