Mumping for Dollars (or writing an MMPOP when you have no ideas)

But…that’s purty, Bobbio. How can you not like it??? :D:p

I’m in the midst of uploading the remainder of my non-flickr’d photos. I’ll share a few pics of our snow after that. You’ll be envious, I’m sure. :stuck_out_tongue:

And yes, there’s a rule relating to eating pecan rolls, Pie. You’re welcome to drop some by my house, of course.

Also, tearing apart the remainder of the kitchen and cleaning before moving on to the bathroom, where I need to replace caulk - big fun. Also, there’s laundry. But first, I think I’ll find some lunch.

Back later,

GT (today’s resident smiley abuser)

Good morning my lovelies.

The pics are pretty, Bobbio. Funny thing about snow; it looks so peaceful and makes the world sound quiet, but it wreaks major havoc with our day to day lives; bad roads, dangerous drivers, etc. It’s too bad we just can’t sit back and enjoy it when it happens.

Hubby and I went out to Mexican with some friends last night. We had some dinner and a drink or two. Then we went to one of the friends’ house and played some 99 and they all proceeded to have a few more drinks. Not me, though. I had to drive and one of our friends was relying on us to get her home. We had a good time.

My son left very early this morning for an AutoCad/SolidWorks competition. I hope he got there alright. I haven’t heard from him. If he and his partner do well, they could go on to state level competition, and from there nationals. His school just got the license for SolidWorks this year and he’s already more proficient than his teacher. It’s why he was chosen to go. I hope he does well and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him.

He’s changed his focus somewhat. For years, he talked about being a structural engineer, but in the last year has decided he wants to be an aeronautical engineer. He wants to design planes for the military.

My daughter and her boyfriend are coming down to visit this afternoon. I’m making a nice pot roast dinner for them. My daughter loves my slow cooker pot roast.

Hey - I’m an aeronautical engineer - your son can grow up to be just like me!

My slab roller is all assembled and tested - it rolled clay. Yay. Once I change in to some grubbies, I’ll go mess around.

It’s cold, and snow was threatened, but so far so good. We’ll see what Monday brings…

I thought you were, FCM, but I couldn’t remember for sure.

Bah, it’s killing me. The competition started at 9:00 am, he had to be there NLT 8:30, and it won’t be over until 1:00. I texted him before 9:00 but haven’t heard from him.

Nothing else exciting going on here.

Where is everyone? I’ve been uploading pictures, opening Valentines, having lunch and generally cleaning.

Snow pictures…

I don’t know, **gt. **

My house smells really yummy right now. I’m getting hungry and I’ve still got several hours until the post roast is done.

Nice pics, gt!

I just finished tying off the assorted ends on my last 2 patchwork afghans. Next one will be crocheted squares, I think.

Still cold out there. How much longer till spring??

My son just returned from his competition.

He called it a total cluster. When he and his partner got there, they were told the network for SolidWorks was down and wasn’t coming back up. His whole concentration has been this particular program. The kids he was competing against use AutoCad, so had a definite advantage. My son can use AutoCad, but definitely is better in SolidWorks.

The teacher who invited them to the competition talked to them and told them he was sorry about that. He also told my son and his partner that he’d heard nothing but good things about their skills and how their teacher is always talking about them. Then a judge wandered over and said they would “take into consideration” this snafu, but “in the job market, employers expect you to adapt to change quickly, so this is a good test for you”.

Anyway, the drawings won’t be judged until tomorrow, so I guess he won’t hear anything until next week. He doesn’t have a warm, fuzzy feeling about the whole thing.

He was totally stoked for this competition and has been working his ass off on prepping for it. He feels let down, but I told him to just hang tough and await the results.

Damn, I’m getting really hungry now.

I am here although I am headed to bed any second…I have also drank a bottle and bit of vino this evening…

I have to work tomorrow as the system I needed was down this afternoon so I couldn’t get the data I needed. Boooooo!

Night all!

Howdy Y’all from now non-snowy South Jawja! It’s my weekstart!!! YAY!!!

OYKW is out swipin’ General Tso’s supper. Oh and my very gentle suggestion re cheesecake was taken to heart and there will be nummy cheesecakeage for dessert tomorrow. I also have sketti sauce simmerin’ away in the slow cooker. Da cave is smellin’ good!

Taters that sucks about your son. Still, he knows he’s good and that’s what counts the most.

Re the snow pics. UMMMMMMMM… ICK! I do not agree that snow is purty. I hates that nasty white stuff!

Yeah, he can use AutoCad 2007, but the competition had the 2010 version. Since his school obtained SolidWorks, they didn’t obtain the 2010 version of AutoCad. It’s kind of like going from Office 2003 to Office 2007; you’re familiar with it, but everything is changed around.

Hopefully, he’ll do well. He turned in all the drawings that he was supposed to turn in.

Surprisingly there are no snow sculptures in my neighborhood - but with school closed this week, I expect at least one or two to pop up

Sorry about your son’s competition, Taters.

Just added more pics and got the right versions of the pics loaded (for some reason, the first set didn’t have my edits; the originals were pretty dark).

Just had some popcorn because I couldn’t decide what to have for dinner. I’m sure I’ll have something else after a while.

Also, started reading Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant again. (We’re doing nostalgia for book club this month.) I still love that book and have no idea why. It just occurred to me that the main character reminds me a bit of my grandmother. But Anne Tyler’s writing all by itself gets to me every time as well.

Back to finishing off the kitchen. Gotta mop before moving the hutch back in.

Yes, it’s another exciting Saturday night.

GT

We’re back from a quick trip for dinner at Wendy’s and odds and ends at WalMart.

And, my taxes are done thanks to much help from TVMan! I do owe some money, but it is an entirely reasonable amount.

What next? Well, I’m trying to talk TVMan into watching a movie that I know he will like but he thinks I’m crazy for suggesting it. And the movie is…

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

Good movie.

I just read the “Women, why do you cut your hair off?” thread, and now am wondering uneasily if it’s true that all women over 30 should have short hair. I don’t have time for short hair. I’d have to wash it every day and get it cut more than once every six months! And I look like Triangle Hair Woman from Dilbert with short hair!

Mr. Lissar says he won’t divorce me if I get it cut off, but he’ll cry every night for years.
We’re having people over on Monday for Mr. Lissar’s birthday. How much Chinese food to feed ten people, mostly guys?

I haven’t read that thread, but my hair is longer now than it’s been in 20+ years. My spousal unit asked me to grow it out, so I did. I hate it long on me, but he likes it, so I put up with it. At a minimum, I need to get the ends trimmed.

We’re watching Bye Bye Birdie, and I’m going to hit the rack soon - I’m pooped! And cold.

Which version: Dick Van Dyke or Jason Alexander?

FCM, the kidlet afghans are quite pretty - I especially like that patchwork one. Great job. I love Bye Bye Birdie (original one) because it was the first “grown-up” movie I saw (at age 10) plus I’ve just always loved musicals.

GT, very pretty snow pics! Oh and I love Anne Tyler too. BTW, I’m really enjoying my Sherlock Holmes collection.

I checked out that long hair vs short hair on women thread - I don’t know how many are aware of it or not, but back in the day women were like “forbidden” to wear short hair - that was part of the flappers style in the 1920s - the shorn hair. FTR, I’ve never been able to “grow” my hair much past my shoulders; as a child, my mother kept my hair cut short, with short bangs (if you’ve seen pics from the 50s, you’ll know what I mean by short bangs! LOL). At any rate, before women’s suffrage and the flapper era, not many women wore short hair.

LOL Ye gods, I’m going stir crazy - been cooped up inside too long! Must get out tomorrow … must!!

Lots. (I know, I’m very helpful. )

I’m sure I mentioned it earlier…I want to go back to read Sherlock Holmes again. Maybe after Anne Tyler (I think I might re-read more than just Dinner).

I wore my hair long until I was a sophomore in college. Didn’t really like it, but gave in to Mom, who thought it would be a shame to cut it. Wore it shoulder length for a couple of years, then got brave and got it cut short the summer I had an internship in Germany. It’s never been longer than almost shoulder-length since. I love being able to wash and wear; long hair always took FOREVER to dry and I had to wash it pretty much every day or else it got stringy. But…I think people should wear their hair however they like.

How did I let it get this late???

Off to read for a bit…

GT

I’ve been letting my hair grow for nearly two years now, and I’m going to be 34 next month. (Gak!) I want to be one of the women I see around here (eventually) with long gray hair. Who says it has to be short???

Besides, it saves me a ton of money on haircuts. Though I could use a trim just to clean up the ends.
